कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वास्तविक वीरता या साहस तब सिद्ध होता है जब कोई व्यक्ति निस्वार्थ भाव से दीन-दुखियों, वंचितों और असहायों के अधिकारों के लिए संघर्ष करता है। सच्चा योद्धा वह नहीं जो सत्ता या अहंकार के लिए लड़े, बल्कि वह है जो दूसरों के दुखों को दूर करने के लिए कठिनतम परिस्थितियों और बार-बार मिलने वाली विफलताओं के बावजूद अपने मार्ग से विचलित नहीं होता और अंत तक टिका रहता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that true bravery or heroism is validated only when one fights selflessly for the sake of the poor, the downtrodden, and the marginalized. A real warrior is not one who battles for power or ego, but one who persists in the face of repeated hardships and failures, refusing to abandon the field of struggle until the cause of the suffering is alleviated.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि अब मैं एक ऐसे योद्धा की तरह बन गया हूँ जो सत्य की खोज में संघर्ष करता है। मूर्ख लोग समझते हैं कि परमात्मा का घर बहुत दूर है, लेकिन जो वास्तव में साहसी है, वह अपना अहंकार और अपना सिर पूरी तरह से ईश्वर को समर्पित कर देता है और फिर किसी भी सांसारिक चिंता या भय का विचार नहीं करता।

Meaning: Kabir declares that he has become a spiritual warrior, one who struggles relentlessly against the illusions of the world. While the ignorant believe the divine abode is a distant destination to be reached, the true brave heart surrenders their very existence—their head—to the Master, casting aside all hesitation and worldly anxiety in the act of total devotion.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि अब मेरी स्थिति ऐसी हो गई है कि मैंने अपनी आत्मा को उस परमात्मा के प्रेम में पूरी तरह लीन कर लिया है। जब व्यक्ति ने सत्य के अमृत का कलश अपने हाथों में थाम लिया हो, तो उसे मृत्यु के भय से डरने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं रह जाती।

Meaning: Kabir declares that he has reached a state where his heart is completely entwined with the Divine. Having grasped the vessel of spiritual nectar (immortality) in his own hands, he asks rhetorically why one should fear death, for the essence of eternal life has already been attained.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस मृत्यु से पूरी दुनिया भयभीत रहती है, वही मृत्यु मेरे लिए परम आनंद का स्रोत है। वे उत्सुकता से पूछते हैं कि वह क्षण कब आएगा जब यह नश्वर शरीर समाप्त होगा और मैं उस पूर्ण, अविनाशी परमानंद (ईश्वर/ब्रह्म) के साक्षात्कार कर सकूँगा।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the very death which the entire world dreads is, for him, a source of supreme bliss. He yearns for the moment when the physical body perishes, allowing him to finally merge with and witness the Absolute, Eternal Bliss of the Divine.

अर्थ: संसार में ऐसे बहुत से लोग हैं जो स्वयं को महान और शक्तिशाली दिखाते हैं, लेकिन वास्तव में वे कायर हैं। इसके विपरीत, जो वास्तव में वीर और ज्ञानी होते हैं, वे व्यर्थ का दिखावा या अहंकारपूर्ण बातें नहीं करते। जब वास्तविक संकट या कठिन समय आता है, तभी यह स्पष्ट होता है कि वास्तव में किसके चेहरे पर सत्य का तेज है और कौन केवल शब्दों का मायाजाल बुन रहा था।

Meaning: The world is filled with many who project an image of strength and superiority, yet they are cowards at heart. In contrast, the truly brave and enlightened do not engage in boastful chatter or arrogant displays. It is only when a genuine crisis or a moment of critical need arises that the true radiance of truth and courage is revealed on a person's face, distinguishing the authentic from the pretender.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि उस व्यक्ति से पूछो जो आध्यात्मिक चोट या विरह की अग्नि में घायल है। वह दिन भर दर्द सहता है और रात भर जागता रहता है। जो व्यक्ति इस विरह की पीड़ा से नहीं गुजरा है, वह कभी नहीं समझ पाएगा कि उस प्रेम की तड़प क्या होती है जिसने आत्मा को पूरी तरह से घेर लिया है।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that one must ask the one who is wounded by spiritual longing. Such a soul suffers throughout the day and remains sleepless through the night. He asserts that those who have not experienced this profound ache of separation cannot possibly comprehend the intensity of the love that has completely consumed the seeker.

अर्थ: यह दोहा उस आध्यात्मिक अवस्था का वर्णन करता है जहाँ जीव माया और अज्ञान के कारण गहरे जख्मों से ग्रस्त है। वह दुनिया में भटक रहा है, लेकिन उसके भीतर का दर्द इतना गहरा है कि कोई भी बाहरी सहारा या दिखावा उसे छिपा नहीं सकता। जब चोट आत्मा के केंद्र (मरम) पर लगती है, तो सांसारिक उपचार और प्रयास उसे ठीक करने में असमर्थ रहते हैं।

Meaning: This couplet describes a spiritual state where the soul is profoundly wounded by illusion (Maya) and ignorance. The seeker wanders through existence, but the internal agony is so pervasive that no external shield or pretense can conceal it. When the wound strikes the very core of being (the 'maram'), worldly remedies and superficial efforts fail to provide healing or survival.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वृक्ष बहुत ऊँचा है और उसके फल आकाश की ऊँचाइयों में छिपे हैं, जबकि उसकी जड़ें और टहनियाँ सूखकर झड़ रही हैं। कई चतुर लोग फल पाने की कोशिश में लगे हैं, लेकिन वे यह नहीं देख पा रहे कि फल उनकी पहुँच से बहुत दूर है क्योंकि वे केवल बाहरी दिखावे और भौतिक चतुराई पर भरोसा कर रहे हैं।

Meaning: Kabir describes a tree of immense height whose fruits are hidden high in the celestial canopy, while its lower branches wither and fall. Many who consider themselves clever strive to reach these fruits, yet they remain unsuccessful because the pure essence remains distant from those relying solely on worldly intellect and superficial effort.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि आप भौतिक रूप से ईश्वर या गुरु के समीप आ गए हैं, तो उसका कोई लाभ नहीं है। वास्तविक निकटता तब होती है जब आप अपने अहंकार का त्याग कर दें। जब तक व्यक्ति अपने 'सिर' यानी अपने अहंकार और अस्तित्व के मोह को पूरी तरह समर्पित नहीं करता, तब तक आध्यात्मिक लक्ष्य की प्राप्ति या किसी भी कार्य की वास्तविक सिद्धि संभव नहीं है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that mere physical proximity to the Divine or a spiritual guide is meaningless. True closeness is not measured by distance but by the surrender of the ego. Until one is willing to 'offer their head'—symbolizing the complete annihilation of the prideful self and the attachment to individual identity—no spiritual endeavor can reach its ultimate fruition or success.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि ईश्वर या सत्य का यह घर प्रेम का है, यह कोई मामूली या रिश्तेदारों का घर नहीं है जहाँ बिना किसी प्रयास के प्रवेश मिल जाए। यहाँ प्रवेश पाने के लिए व्यक्ति को अपने अहंकार का पूर्ण त्याग करना होगा, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे कोई अपना सिर काटकर हाथों में लेकर आए। केवल वही व्यक्ति इस परम सत्य के घर में प्रवेश कर सकता है जिसने अपनी 'मैं' या अहंकार को पूरी तरह मिटा दिया है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the abode of Divine Love is not a casual dwelling or a relative's house where one can enter with entitlement or ease. It is a sanctuary of absolute surrender. To enter this house, one must be prepared to sever the head of the ego and carry it in one's hands. Only the seeker who has completely annihilated their sense of 'I-ness' and pride can truly step into the presence of the Ultimate Truth.
