अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जो व्यक्ति केवल बाहरी समय की गणना, जैसे महीने, दिन या वर्ष के अनुष्ठानों में उलझा रहता है, वह मृत्यु के भय को नहीं जीत सकता। सच्चा भक्त वह है जो समय की सीमाओं से परे उठकर परमात्मा में लीन हो जाता है और अंततः मृत्यु के देवता, यमराज को भी चुनौती देने का साहस रखता है क्योंकि वह जानता है कि आत्मा अमर है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that those who rely solely on the external measurement of time—counting months, days, or years through ritualistic observance—cannot overcome the fear of death. The true devotee is one who transcends the linear constraints of time to merge with the Eternal Divine, thereby gaining the spiritual audacity to challenge Yama, the Lord of Death, recognizing the immortal nature of the Atman.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब तक मनुष्य मृत्यु के भय से ग्रस्त है, वह सच्चा प्रेमी या साधक नहीं बन सकता। ईश्वरीय प्रेम का मार्ग अत्यंत कठिन और लंबा है, जिसे हृदय से गहराई से समझने की आवश्यकता है क्योंकि यह अहंकार के पूर्ण विनाश की मांग करता है।

Meaning: Kabir warns that the heedless person, slumbering in spiritual ignorance, finds themselves utterly powerless when death arrives. When the hour of demise draws near, Time seizes the soul forcibly, dragging it away just as a butcher grips a goat by its ear to lead it to the slaughterhouse.

अर्थ: समय और मृत्यु निरंतर हमारे सिर पर मंडरा रहे हैं, परंतु अज्ञानता के कारण जीव उन्हें देख नहीं पाता। कबीर कहते हैं कि केवल गुरु द्वारा दिए गए 'शब्द' (दिव्य ज्ञान या मंत्र) को आत्मसात करके ही आत्मा को मृत्यु के भय और जन्म-मृत्यु के चक्र से मुक्ति मिल सकती है।

Meaning: Time and death hover incessantly above our heads, yet the soul remains oblivious due to deep-seated ignorance. अर्थ: इस दोहे में कबीर काल (मृत्यु) की अपरिहार्यता और उसकी प्रचंडता का वर्णन कर रहे हैं। वे कहते हैं कि मृत्यु के योद्धा चारों ओर खड़े हैं और शंखनाद कर रहे हैं। जब काल का वह पर्वत जैसा प्रहार आता है, तो वह मनुष्य को उसके जीवन के सुख-सुविधाओं वाले महल के बीच से खींचकर ले जाता है, चाहे वह कितना भी शक्तिशाली क्यों न हो।

Meaning: In this couplet, Kabir describes the inevitability and fierce nature of Time (Death). He suggests that the warriors of death stand poised all around, sounding their horns of warning. When the mountain-like force of Time arrives, it forcibly drags the individual away from the center of their worldly palace of comforts, regardless of their status or strength.

While they focus on the external defense of the flesh, the inevitable force of Time (Death) arrives and strikes, rendering all weapons and worldly pride utterly useless as the body perishes.
