Famous Kabir Dohe on Non-Violence —

(Not hurting any living being through mind, word, or deed is true humanity and non-violence.)

Non-violence, in Kabir's teaching, is not a rule but a natural expression of love. Sant Kabir Das saw the same life-force in every creature and asked how anyone who claims to love God could injure any being in which God dwells. His dohas on ahimsa condemn cruelty in all its forms — from violence against animals to the quieter cruelties of the tongue.

Kabir's non-violence goes deeper than avoiding physical harm. He teaches that harsh words wound, that judgement harms, and that the truly gentle person checks the mind before it becomes anger. Ahimsa, for Kabir, begins in thought and only then reaches the hand.

Read these couplets to understand the gentleness at the heart of Kabir's path and why his vision of non-violence influenced later movements of peace and equality in India.
