Famous Kabir Dohe on Truth of Life — जीवन सत्य पर कबीर के प्रसिद्ध दोहे

Meaning: Kabir reminds us that the human body is transient and destined to perish. If you wish to achieve something lasting, anchor your existence in a meaningful purpose. He suggests that the only enduring path is the selfless service of the enlightened (Sadhus) and the contemplation of the divine attributes of the Formless Lord, as these spiritual merits are the only treasures that transcend the physical death.

Meaning: Kabir warns that relying on others or waiting for external salvation is a futile endeavor. Just as a goat remains complacent in the trust of the butcher, unaware that its end is imminent, humans linger in worldly attachments and false assurances while Time (Yama) relentlessly consumes their life and spiritual essence.

Meaning: A leaf speaks to the tree, saying, 'O great tree, listen to me. Once we are separated now, we shall never meet again, for we will be cast far apart.' This verse captures the poignant reality of impermanence and the inevitable separation inherent in the physical world.

Meaning: Kabir warns of an inevitable day of reckoning—death—that will sever all earthly ties for everyone. Regardless of one's status as a king, a noble, or a sovereign ruler, no amount of power or prestige can provide sanctuary or caution against the absolute certainty of separation from the material world.

Meaning: Kabir reflects that he entered this world only to find himself entangled in the myriad forms of duality, distinctions, and worldly illusions. However, upon encountering the gaze of a true enlightened saint, he was struck by an unparalleled, divine vision that dissolved all misconceptions and revealed the singular, absolute truth.

Meaning: The celestial drum of the void has sounded, echoing in the ears of those who destroy the ego. This is the clarion call of spiritual awakening. The brave seekers of Truth perceive this sound as an invitation to liberation and rejoice, whereas the cowards, shackled by attachment and fear, are overwhelmed by the intensity of this truth and perish in their own delusions.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that those who indulge in the consumption of meat and fish and harbor a deep affection for intoxicants surrender themselves to base instincts. Such a tamasic existence leads the individual toward spiritual degradation and a hellish state of consciousness, dragging the spiritual merit of their lineage and parents down with them through the weight of shared karmic bondage.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that those who consume meat and fish and harbor a deep attachment to intoxicants pollute their inner consciousness. Such conduct leads to spiritual degradation, ensuring their downfall is as absolute and desolate as a ruined field of drowned grain, symbolizing a total loss of spiritual harvest.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the flesh of a chicken, a deer, or a cow is essentially the same. Humans, driven by selective perception, choose specific creatures to consume based on arbitrary distinctions. Those who persist in this cycle of violence and ignorance, consuming the life-force of others, inevitably descend into spiritual darkness and suffer the consequences of their cruelty.

Meaning: Kabir Das describes the inevitable reality of impermanence and death. He asserts that a day will come when all worldly bonds will dissolve, and no one will belong to anyone else. Even the domestic partner and the physical body—the ultimate vessel of identity—will depart, leaving the soul in absolute solitude.
