Liberation — mukti — is the goal toward which all of Kabir's poetry moves. Sant Kabir Das described the soul's journey as a return: from the many back to the one, from the world's noise back to the stillness it came from. His dohas on liberation speak of freedom from the cycle of birth and death, freedom from fear, and freedom from the self that blocks the Divine.
Kabir's liberation is not a reward earned after death; it is a condition to be tasted here and now. The person who dissolves the ego, who loves without clinging, who sees God in all beings, is already free while still in the body. Such a soul, Kabir says, is released from the wheel and merges into the light like a drop into the ocean.
Read these couplets to understand the destination of Kabir's spiritual path and the freedom he believed every human being was born for.
