कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि हे दीन मनुष्य, तू केवल शब्दों से या बाहरी दिखावे से साधुओं की संगति का दावा न कर। यदि तेरा हृदय और तेरा स्वभाव अभी भी अहंकार और अज्ञान की काली कालिख से भरा है, तो केवल भौतिक उपस्थिति से आध्यात्मिक रंग नहीं चढ़ता। वास्तविक परिवर्तन आंतरिक शुद्धि से आता है, न कि केवल पवित्र लोगों के पास बैठने से।

Meaning: Kabir addresses the humble seeker, warning that merely associating oneself with the company of saints or pretending to be spiritual is futile. He asserts that if the inner self remains stained by the 'blackness' of ego and ignorance, the divine color of grace cannot adhere. True transformation requires internal purification, not just the external act of sitting among the holy.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मैंने अपने जीवनकाल में उस वास्तविक 'राम' (परमात्मा) को पहचानने का प्रयास नहीं किया और स्वयं को इस भौतिक शरीर रूपी पिंजरे में कैद कर लिया। अब परिणाम यह है कि न तो आँखों को नींद आती है और न ही यह भ्रम का पर्दा हटता है, जिससे सत्य और असत्य का भेद स्पष्ट हो सके।

Meaning: Kabir laments that he failed to recognize the true essence of the Divine Name (Ram) during his conscious life, effectively imprisoning his soul within the cage of the physical body. Consequently, he now suffers from a state of spiritual restlessness where neither peace (sleep) nor clarity (discernment) can be attained, as the illusion of duality persists.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि अच्छी संगति से जीवन में सुख और शांति का उदय होता है, जबकि बुरी संगति केवल दुखों और मानसिक क्लेशों को जन्म देती है। इसलिए, मनुष्य को सदैव ऐसे सज्जनों और साधुओं का साथ खोजना चाहिए जो उसे सत्य और आध्यात्मिकता की ओर ले जाएं।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that virtuous company fosters inner peace and happiness, whereas the company of the misguided leads inevitably to suffering. He urges the seeker to consciously seek the presence of 'Sadhus'—those who are aligned with Truth—to elevate their own consciousness.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि हे ईश्वर, तुम्हारी सत्ता और उपस्थिति हर हृदय और कण में समाई हुई है। जिस प्रकार मेहंदी के पत्ते के भीतर उसका लाल रंग पूरी तरह रच-बस जाता है और उसे अलग नहीं किया जा सकता, वैसे ही परमात्मा आत्मा के साथ अभिन्न है।

Meaning: Kabir proclaims that the Divine Presence permeates every heart and every atom of existence. Just as the crimson hue of henna is inextricably woven into the very fiber of its leaf, the Creator is inseparable from the creation, residing within every soul as an eternal essence.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि जैसे दिन ढलने पर चकवी चिड़िया अपने साथी के विरह में विलाप करती है, वैसे ही यह मानव जीवन भी नश्वर है। वे आत्मा को उस शाश्वत प्रदेश की ओर चलने का आह्वान करते हैं जहाँ समय का कोई बंधन नहीं है और जहाँ अज्ञानता की रात्रि कभी नहीं होती।

Meaning: Kabir observes that as the day ends, the female ruddy duck (chakvi) cries in separation from her partner. Similarly, human life is fleeting. He urges the soul (the chakva) to journey toward that eternal realm where there is no night—a state of perpetual spiritual awakening and liberation from the cycle of time.

अर्थ: इस दोहे में कबीर एक रूपक का उपयोग करते हैं जहाँ लकड़ी लोहार से कहती है कि वह उसे न जलाए। लकड़ी चेतावनी देती है कि समय का चक्र ऐसा घूमेगा कि एक दिन वही लकड़ी (ईंधन के रूप में) लोहार को जला देगी, अर्थात मृत्यु और समय की अटल सच्चाई सबको समान रूप से भस्म कर देती है।

Meaning: In this couplet, Kabir employs a poignant metaphor where a piece of wood speaks to the blacksmith, pleading not to be burned. The wood warns that the wheel of time will inevitably turn, and a day will come when that very wood (as fuel for a funeral pyre) will burn the blacksmith, signifying the inescapable nature of death and temporal justice.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि इस मिट्टी जैसे नश्वर संसार में केवल ज्ञान रूपी रत्न की ही सच्ची खोज और संचय करना चाहिए। यह भौतिक जगत क्षणभंगुर है; मनुष्य यहाँ आता है और चला जाता है, लेकिन अंत में यह संसार स्वादहीन और अर्थहीन प्रतीत होता है यदि उसमें आध्यात्मिक बोध न हो।

Meaning: Kabir urges the seeker to diligently preserve the jewel of spiritual knowledge, for the material world is as fragile and transient as clay. He observes that humans arrive and depart from this existence, only to find that the world is tasteless and void of lasting substance without the light of true wisdom.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि सांसारिक समृद्धि, धन-दौलत या अलौकिक शक्तियों की कामना मत करो। इसके बजाय, ईश्वर से यह प्रार्थना करो कि तुम्हें दिन-रात ऐसे सच्चे साधु या आत्मज्ञानी व्यक्ति का सान्निध्य मिले, जो तुम्हें सत्य का मार्ग दिखा सके और अहंकार से मुक्त कर सके।

Meaning: Kabir advises against craving material prosperity, worldly success, or supernatural powers. Instead, he urges the seeker to pray for the constant presence and guidance of a true saint or an enlightened soul, as their company is the only catalyst for genuine spiritual awakening and liberation from the ego.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि क्षमा केवल बड़ों के लिए नहीं है और न ही केवल छोटों की गलतियों को अनदेखा करना चाहिए। जिस प्रकार भगवान विष्णु की महानता और उनकी शक्ति में कोई कमी नहीं आई जब उन्होंने एक तुच्छ जीव या असुर की चपलता को सहन किया या उसका अंत किया, उसी प्रकार एक महान व्यक्ति की गरिमा उसकी सहनशीलता और क्षमाशीलता से घटती नहीं, बल्कि बढ़ती है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that forgiveness is not a privilege reserved solely for the powerful, nor should the mischief of the lowly be blindly ignored. Just as the divine essence and sovereignty of Lord Vishnu remained undiminished even when dealing with the audacity of a trivial creature or a demon, the dignity of a realized soul is not diminished by exercising forgiveness; rather, it is the hallmark of true spiritual stature.

अर्थ: साधक कहता है कि राम नाम की नौका से उसने संसार रूपी सागर को पार कर लिया है, लेकिन उसके पास गुरु को देने के लिए कोई भौतिक वस्तु नहीं है। वह दुविधा में है कि गुरु की कृपा के बदले उन्हें क्या भेंट दे, क्योंकि उनके मन में गुरु को संतुष्ट करने की तीव्र इच्छा है, परंतु साधन शून्य है।

Meaning: The seeker acknowledges that they have crossed the ocean of worldly existence using the raft of the Divine Name (Ram-naam), yet they possess nothing material to offer the Guru in return. There is a profound inner longing to gratify the teacher's generosity, but the seeker finds themselves devoid of any worldly possession to present as a token of gratitude.
