कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब बाहरी दुनिया को देखने वाली दोनों आँखें चली जाती हैं और हृदय की आंतरिक दृष्टि भी विकसित नहीं होती, तब मनुष्य पूरी तरह अंधकार में डूब जाता है। यदि व्यक्ति ने जीवित रहते हुए अपने भीतर झाँकने का प्रयास नहीं किया, तो वह पूर्णतः असहाय हो जाता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that when the two physical eyes lose their sight and the inner eye of the heart remains unopened, a person is plunged into absolute darkness. If one fails to peer into their own soul while alive, they remain utterly helpless and lost in spiritual blindness.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य को केवल एक ही सत्य, एक ही मार्ग और एक ही परमात्मा पर अडिग रहना चाहिए। जो व्यक्ति अपनी बात में दोहरापन रखता है या दो अलग-अलग पक्षों को अलग-अलग बातें बोलकर छल करता है, उसे अंततः अपमान और भारी कष्ट का सामना करना पड़ता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a person must remain steadfast in one truth, one path, and one singular Divine reality. Those who speak with a double tongue—practicing hypocrisy or playing two sides—will eventually encounter severe consequences, social disgrace, and spiritual failure.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि मैं ईश्वर को 'एक' कहूँ तो लोग उसे पूरी तरह समझ नहीं पाते, और यदि 'दो' कहूँ तो यह द्वैतवाद का पाप या गाली के समान है। इसलिए, सत्य को शब्दों के जाल में बाँधने के बजाय उसे उसके वास्तविक, अनिर्वचनीय स्वरूप में अनुभव करना चाहिए।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that if he describes the Divine as 'One,' it fails to capture the essence, and if he says 'Two,' it becomes a heresy or a linguistic insult to the Truth. अर्थ: इस दोहे में कबीर उस परम सत्य की व्याख्या कर रहे हैं जहाँ एक ही स्रोत से अनंत विविधता उत्पन्न होती है और अंततः वही अनंत विविधता पुनः उसी एक में विलीन हो जाती है। जब साधक को उस एक (परमात्मा) का वास्तविक परिचय मिल जाता है, तो उसे समझ आता है कि पूरा ब्रह्मांड उसी एक इकाई का विस्तार है।

Meaning: In this couplet, Kabir explains the ultimate truth where infinite diversity arises from a single source, and eventually, that same infinity merges back into the One. Once the seeker attains a true introduction to that One (the Divine), they realize that the entire universe is merely an expansion of that single, undivided entity.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि सत्य केवल एक ही है, जिसे लोग अपनी सुविधा और धारणाओं के अनुसार अलग-अलग नाम और रूप देते हैं। लेकिन मनुष्य और उस परम सत्य के बीच अहंकार और अज्ञान का एक भारी पर्दा पड़ा है, जिसके कारण वह सत्य दिखाई नहीं देता।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that Truth is singular and absolute, though people describe it in various fragmented ways. However, a dense veil of ego and ignorance hangs between the seeker and the Divine, rendering the ultimate reality invisible to the clouded eye.

अर्थ: कबीर एक ऐसी अद्भुत बेल (सांसारिक माया) को संबोधित करते हैं जिसकी विशेषताएँ वर्णन करना असंभव है। यह बेल इतनी विचित्र है कि जिस जड़ को काटा जाता है, वह और अधिक हरी-भरी हो जाती है, और जिसे पानी से सींचा जाता है, वह मुरझा जाती है।

Meaning: Kabir addresses a mysterious vine (the illusion of Maya) whose qualities defy all logic. This paradoxical vine flourishes and turns greener when its roots are severed, yet withers and dies when it is nurtured with water.

अर्थ: हे जीवित मनुष्य! तू इस आध्यात्मिक अमृत का पान कर, फिर क्यों व्यर्थ में मोह-माया के पाताल में गिरकर अपना जीवन नष्ट करता है? गुरु की कृपा और संतों की संगति ही वह एकमात्र द्वार है जिससे तू इस संसार के दुखों और अज्ञानता से मुक्त होकर परम सत्य को प्राप्त कर सकता है।

Meaning: O living soul! Drink the nectar of spiritual awakening; why do you choose to sink and perish in the depths of worldly illusion? Through the grace of a true Guru and the company of the enlightened, there exists a gateway that leads you out of the abyss of ignorance toward eternal liberation.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि गुरु द्वारा दिया गया एक छोटा सा शब्द या मंत्र अपने आप में अनंत रहस्यों और गहरे विचारों को समेटे हुए है। महान मुनि और विद्वान पंडित भी अपनी पूरी उम्र लगा देते हैं, लेकिन वे वेदों के अध्ययन के बावजूद उस परम सत्य की गहराई को पूरी तरह नहीं समझ पाते जिसे गुरु का एक शब्द सरल बना देता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a single word imparted by the Guru contains infinite dimensions of thought and spiritual truth. Even the most learned sages and scholars, despite their exhaustive study of the Vedas, fail to reach the ultimate shore of realization, whereas the Guru's word provides a direct and concise gateway to the Absolute.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि यदि आप एक ही परमात्मा या मूल तत्व की साधना कर लें, तो अन्य सभी इच्छाएं और लक्ष्य स्वतः ही सिद्ध हो जाते हैं। यदि व्यक्ति एक साथ कई दिशाओं में भागता है, तो वह सब कुछ खो देता है। यह ठीक वैसा ही है जैसे किसी पौधे की जड़ में पानी देने से पूरा पेड़ फल और फूलों से लदा रहता है, जबकि पत्तियों को सींचने से कोई लाभ नहीं होता।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that by focusing on the One—the ultimate Truth or the Divine Source—all other fragmented desires and goals are naturally fulfilled. Attempting to pursue countless disparate ends leads to exhaustion and loss. Just as watering the root of a tree nourishes the entire plant, leading to abundant blossoms and fruit, focusing on the singular essence of existence sustains all aspects of life.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि जो व्यक्ति दूसरों को उपदेश देने और उन्हें सही रास्ता दिखाने में लगा रहता है, वह वास्तव में अपनी जीभ पर रेत चबा रहा होता है। वह दूसरों के खेतों की रखवाली करने में समय व्यर्थ करता है, जबकि उसके अपने जीवन का खेत उपेक्षित होकर नष्ट हो रहा है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the person who spends their entire existence instructing and correcting others is merely chewing on sand. By obsessively guarding the fields of others—trying to manage their spiritual or moral growth—they neglect their own internal landscape, allowing their own soul's field to wither and perish.
