कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी चेतावनी देते हैं कि सोने (धन) और कामिनी (सांसारिक सुखों) के आकर्षण में पड़कर अपनी वास्तविक आध्यात्मिक राह न भूलें। वे समझाते हैं कि इस भौतिक संसार में मिलना और बिछड़ना एक ऐसा खेल है जो अंततः वैसा ही क्षणभंगुर है जैसे एक सांप अपनी पुरानी केंचुल को त्याग देता है।

Meaning: Kabir warns against being blinded by the allure of gold (wealth) and sensual pleasures. He explains that the cycle of meeting and parting in this material world is a deceptive game, as transient and disposable as a snake shedding its old skin to make way for the new.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि उनका वास्तविक निवास आध्यात्मिक चेतना के उस उच्चतम शिखर पर है, जहाँ पहुँचने का मार्ग अत्यंत संकरा और कठिन है। यह वह स्थान है जहाँ एक छोटी सी चींटी भी अपना संतुलन नहीं बना पाती, फिर भी वहाँ वह 'बैल' पहुँच गया है जिसने अपने अहंकार और भौतिक बोझ को त्यागकर समर्पण का भार उठाया है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that his true abode resides upon the highest peak of spiritual consciousness, accessible only via an impossibly narrow and treacherous path. It is a realm so ethereal and precarious that even a tiny ant cannot find a foothold, yet the 'ox'—representing the soul that has surrendered its ego and carried the burden of divine love—has managed to reach this summit.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि आत्मा ने पुकारा और वह चंदन की शाखा पर चढ़ गई, लेकिन वह पुकार उस परमात्मा तक नहीं पहुँची। जब परमात्मा की कृपा या उसकी इच्छा नहीं होती, तो मनुष्य के लाख प्रयासों के बावजूद वह उसे प्राप्त नहीं कर पाता; तब मेरी व्यक्तिगत कोशिशों का क्या मूल्य रह जाता है?

Meaning: Kabir suggests that the soul called out and ascended the branch of the sandalwood tree, yet the call remained unheard. When the divine grace or will is absent, no amount of human effort can bridge the gap; in such a state, what value do my individual struggles hold?

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब तक मन का भ्रम दूर नहीं होता, मनुष्य सत्य को खोजने के लिए अनेक बाहरी रूप और वेश धारण करता रहता है। जब तक उस परमात्मा (साई) का वास्तविक अनुभव या प्रमाण प्राप्त नहीं होता, तब तक आंतरिक और बाहरी सत्य के बीच का अंतर कभी स्पष्ट नहीं हो पाता और अज्ञानता बनी रहती है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that as long as the illusion of the mind persists, a human continues to adopt various external disguises and rituals in search of truth. Without the direct experiential realization or 'proof' of the Divine (Sai), the distinction between the internal reality and external appearance remains blurred, leaving the seeker trapped in ignorance.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वास्तविक प्रार्थना या भक्ति विवेक (सही और गलत के बीच भेद करने वाली बुद्धि) की होनी चाहिए। दुनिया में हर कोई बाहरी धार्मिक वेशभूषा धारण करता है, लेकिन वह भक्ति व्यर्थ है जहाँ विवेक का अभाव हो और शब्द केवल दिखावा हों।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that true devotion or worship must be rooted in 'Vivek' (spiritual discernment). While many people adopt the outward appearance and attire of holiness, such rituals are meaningless and void if they are not guided by a conscious, discerning intellect and genuine understanding.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि अपनी आंतरिक शक्ति और आत्म-साक्षात्कार पर भरोसा करें और बाहरी सहारे या दूसरों से उम्मीद करना छोड़ दें। जिस व्यक्ति के अपने आंगन में नदी बह रही हो, वह प्यास से कैसे मर सकता है? अर्थात, ईश्वर और आनंद आपके भीतर ही मौजूद हैं।

Meaning: Kabir urges the seeker to cultivate their own inner strength and abandon the futile hope for external salvation. He asks rhetorically: how can one perish of thirst when a river flows within their own courtyard? The essence is that the Divine and ultimate fulfillment reside within the self.

अर्थ: यह संसार और यह शरीर लकड़ी के समान नश्वर हैं, जिसमें समय रूपी घुन निरंतर लगा हुआ है। मनुष्य चाहे जितने भी प्रयास या उपाय करे, समय धीरे-धीरे सब कुछ नष्ट कर देता है। मृत्यु और समय इस शरीर के भीतर ही वास करते हैं, परंतु मनुष्य इस गहरे रहस्य को समझ नहीं पाता और बाहरी आडंबरों में उलझा रहता है।

Meaning: This world and the physical body are like a piece of wood infested by the termite of Time. No matter how many precautions or efforts one makes, the termite of decay relentlessly consumes everything. Death and Time reside within the very core of our existence, yet the secret of this impermanence remains hidden from the oblivious human mind.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यह कलियुग का समय है जहाँ संसार आध्यात्मिक अंधापन और पाखंड से भरा है। यहाँ कोई भी सत्य शब्द या ईश्वरीय ज्ञान को सुनने के लिए तैयार नहीं है। जब कोई व्यक्ति दूसरों के वास्तविक कल्याण की बात करता है, तो वे उसे समझने के बजाय उसका शत्रु बन जाते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir observes that in the age of Kali Yuga, the world is blinded by ignorance and spiritual darkness. No one is willing to listen to the Truth or the Divine Word. When a seeker attempts to guide others toward their own ultimate well-being and spiritual liberation, those people react with hostility and become enemies instead of allies.

अर्थ: दुनिया में ऐसी बहुत सी बातें करने वाले लोग मिल जाते हैं जो ज्ञान की बड़ी-बड़ी बातें करते हैं, लेकिन वास्तव में उस सत्य को गहराई से समझने और आत्मसात करने वाला कोई नहीं मिलता। इसलिए, जो व्यक्ति सत्य को गहराई से नहीं समझ सकता, उसे केवल ऊपरी बातों में उलझने देना चाहिए, क्योंकि वास्तविक ज्ञान केवल अनुभव से आता है।

Meaning: Many are found who can speak of the truth and utter grand words of wisdom, yet few are found who truly grasp or embody that truth within themselves. Therefore, let those who cannot penetrate the depths of the truth remain with the surface-level words, for true realization is a matter of internal experience, not external articulation.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि कोई व्यक्ति काजल की कोठरी में रहता है और काजल के ही वस्त्र पहनता है, फिर भी उसका चेहरा काला नहीं होता, तो इसका अर्थ है कि उसने स्वयं को किसी पर्दे या ढाल के पीछे छिपा रखा है। यह बाहरी दिखावे और आंतरिक वास्तविकता के बीच के विरोधाभास को दर्शाता है।

Meaning: Kabir posits that if a person resides in a room made of soot and wears garments of soot, yet their face remains unstained, it implies they are hiding behind a veil. This serves as a metaphor for the discrepancy between one's external environment or pretensions and the hidden, untouched nature of the soul or the stubbornness of the ego.
