कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार गहरे जलाशय का पानी स्थिर और निर्मल होता है, उसी प्रकार वह साधक वास्तव में श्रेष्ठ है जिसने अपने मन को गहराई और स्थिरता प्रदान की है, और जिसके पास आंतरिक शांति का वास्तविक साधन है।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that just as water in a deep reservoir remains clear and undisturbed, a true seeker or saint is one who has cultivated profound inner depth and stability, possessing the genuine means of spiritual realization through stillness.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि इस भौतिक शरीर के साथ छह मुख्य विकार जुड़े हुए हैं। यदि मनुष्य अपने मन को इन सांसारिक विकारों और शारीरिक आवश्यकताओं से हटा ले, तो वह शोक, मोह, प्यास, भूख, बुढ़ापे और मृत्यु के चक्र से मुक्त हो सकता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the physical body is entwined with six primary afflictions. If one can detach the consciousness from these somatic impulses and worldly attachments, they can transcend the cycle of grief, delusion, thirst, hunger, decay, and inevitable death.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि किसी संत या ज्ञानी व्यक्ति की पहचान उसकी जाति या कुल से नहीं, बल्कि उसके ज्ञान से करनी चाहिए। जिस प्रकार तलवार की उपयोगिता उसकी धार और गुणवत्ता में होती है, न कि उस म्यान (कवर) की सुंदरता में जिसमें वह रखी होती है, उसी प्रकार मनुष्य का मूल्य उसके आंतरिक बोध और चरित्र से तय होता है, न कि उसके सामाजिक जन्म से।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that a saint or a seeker of truth should be recognized by their wisdom and spiritual realization rather than their caste or lineage. Just as the true value of a sword lies in its blade's sharpness and quality, not in the ornate scabbard that holds it, a human being's worth is determined by their inner enlightenment and character, not by the social labels assigned at birth.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि एक सच्चा साधु उस हीरे के समान है जो अत्यंत कठोर और शुद्ध होता है। जिस प्रकार हीरा किसी भी प्रहार से टूटता नहीं और समय की मार से नष्ट नहीं होता, उसी प्रकार आत्म-साक्षात्कार कर चुका व्यक्ति सांसारिक दुखों और मोह-माया के प्रभाव से मुक्त हो जाता है। वह मिट्टी के घड़े की तरह नष्ट होने वाला नहीं है, बल्कि वह जन्म और मृत्यु के चक्र से परे शाश्वत सत्य में स्थित हो गया है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a true seeker or realized soul is like a diamond—indestructible and pure. Just as a diamond remains unbroken despite the heaviest pressure and resists decay, the enlightened being remains unaffected by the turbulence of the material world. Unlike a clay pot that shatters easily, the realized soul transcends the fragile cycle of birth and death, merging into the eternal, unchanging Absolute.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि वर्तमान समय के लोग अत्यंत चंचल और स्वार्थी हो गए हैं। वे बहुत जल्दी संबंध बनाते हैं और उतनी ही तेजी से उन्हें तोड़ देते हैं। अपने व्यक्तिगत लाभ और लालच के लिए वे ईश्वर (राम) की झूठी कसमें खाते हैं और धर्म का ढोंग करते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir observes that people of the current age have become profoundly fickle and self-centered. They form bonds rapidly only to sever them just as quickly. Driven by personal greed and material gain, they hypocritically swear oaths in the name of the Divine (Ram) to validate their deceit.

अर्थ: सच्चे संतों और आत्मज्ञानी व्यक्तियों का साथ जीवन का सर्वोच्च आनंद है; अन्य सभी सांसारिक सुख अत्यंत तुच्छ और क्षणभंगुर हैं। जिस प्रकार मानसरोवर में केवल पवित्र हंस निवास करते हैं, जबकि बगुले हर जगह पाए जाते हैं, उसी प्रकार सत्य का मार्ग केवल शुद्ध हृदय वाले साधकों को ही मिलता है, जबकि पाखंडी हर जगह मौजूद होते हैं।

Meaning: The company of true saints and enlightened souls is the ultimate bliss; all other worldly pleasures are insignificant and fleeting. Just as the sacred Mansarovar is the abode of the pure swans, while herons are found everywhere, the path of Truth is accessible only to those with a pure heart, whereas hypocrites are ubiquitous in the material world.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जो व्यक्ति वास्तव में एक साधु के गुणों और आचरण को अपने जीवन में उतारता है, वही वास्तव में साधु कहलाने का अधिकारी है। बिना कठिन आध्यात्मिक साधना और आंतरिक अनुशासन के, आत्म-ज्ञान या चेतना की शुद्धि संभव नहीं है, और बिना इस प्रक्रिया के कोई व्यक्ति साधु नहीं बन सकता।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that only the one who embodies the conduct and virtues of a seeker in their daily life truly deserves the title of a 'Sadhu'. Without rigorous spiritual practice (Sadhana) and inner discipline, the awakening of consciousness or purity of mind cannot occur; therefore, one cannot attain the state of a realized soul through mere labels.

अर्थ: जो व्यक्ति वास्तव में परमात्मा (राम) के ध्यान में लीन है, उसके लिए सांसारिक सुख-सुविधाएं, व्यर्थ का मनोरंजन और मायावी मोह-माया के बंधन अर्थहीन और वर्जित हैं। एक सच्चे साधक के लिए बाहरी आडंबर और भौतिक आसक्तियां आध्यात्मिक मार्ग में केवल बाधाएं हैं।

Meaning: For the one who is truly immersed in the remembrance of the Divine (Raam), the trivial amusements and distractions of the worldly life are meaningless. The lures of Maya—material wealth, ritualistic structures, and carnal attachments—hold no value for a seeker dedicated to the path of liberation.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि चाहे वह किसी महान सम्राट की रानी हो, जिसके पास अपार वैभव और विलासिता हो, लेकिन वह आध्यात्मिक तराजू पर एक साधारण हरिजन पनिहारिन (पानी भरने वाली स्त्री) के सामने नहीं टिकती। सच्ची भक्ति और आंतरिक पवित्रता का मूल्य बाहरी पद और सामाजिक प्रतिष्ठा से कहीं अधिक है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that even the queen of a mighty emperor, surrounded by immense luxury and worldly power, cannot outweigh a simple Dalit water-carrier (Panihari) on the spiritual scale. The value of genuine devotion and inner purity far exceeds the worth of external status and social prestige.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार हर वन चंदन का नहीं होता और हर वनस्पति औषधीय नहीं होती, और जिस प्रकार हर समुद्र में मोती नहीं मिलते, उसी प्रकार इस संसार में हर वह व्यक्ति जो साधु जैसा दिखता है, वास्तव में सच्चा साधु या आत्मज्ञानी नहीं होता।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that just as not every forest consists of fragrant sandalwood and not every plant possesses healing properties, and just as not every ocean yields precious pearls, similarly, not every person who assumes the appearance or title of a saint is a true realized soul in this world.
