कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जो व्यक्ति न तो संतों के सान्निध्य में आनंदित होता है और न ही अपने अज्ञान और सांसारिक मोह के कारण विलाप करता है, वह आध्यात्मिक रूप से सुप्त है। ऐसे व्यक्ति के लिए, जो न तो प्रेम में डूबा है और न ही पश्चाताप की अग्नि में, मोक्ष की प्राप्ति असंभव है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a soul who neither finds joy in the company of the enlightened nor feels the poignant grief of separation from the Divine remains in a state of spiritual stagnation. For such an individual, devoid of both ecstatic love and the transformative pain of longing, liberation remains an unattainable dream.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि प्रेमपूर्वक साधु-संतों को भोजन कराएं और उनकी सेवा करें। यदि मनुष्य इस संसार में रहते हुए ऐसा परोपकारी और निस्वार्थ जीवन जीता है, तो अंततः वह मोक्ष या परम पद की प्राप्ति करता है।

Meaning: Kabir advises that one should feed and serve the seekers and saints with genuine love. By living a life of selfless service and compassion while remaining in the material world, a soul eventually attains the highest spiritual state or liberation.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार वृक्ष, सज्जन व्यक्ति और बादल दूसरों के कल्याण के लिए अपना सर्वस्व समर्पित कर देते हैं, उसी प्रकार एक सच्चा साधक आध्यात्मिक सत्य और मानवता की सेवा के लिए अपने शरीर और अहंकार का पूर्ण त्याग कर देता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that just as trees, saints, and rain clouds exist solely to benefit others without expecting anything in return, a true seeker of truth completely dissolves their physical and egoic identity in the service of the ultimate spiritual good and universal welfare.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि एक साधारण, शांत झोपड़ी उस बड़े और शोर-शराबे वाले शहर (साकेत/अयोध्या) से कहीं बेहतर है जहाँ केवल दिखावा और अहंकार है। उसी प्रकार, चंदन की एक छोटी सी लकड़ी का टुकड़ा उस विशाल बबूल के पेड़ से श्रेष्ठ है जो केवल काँटों और कठोरता का प्रतीक है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a simple, peaceful hut is far superior to a grand, bustling city filled with vanity and noise. Similarly, a small piece of fragrant sandalwood is more valuable than a massive acacia tree, which offers nothing but thorns and harshness, symbolizing that inner quality outweighs outward scale.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार अनंत आकाश को नापना या पूरी पृथ्वी को तौलना असंभव है, उसी प्रकार एक सच्चे साधक की पहचान उसकी जाति या कुल से नहीं की जा सकती। जैसे पारस पत्थर का मूल्य उसकी बाहरी दिखावट से नहीं बल्कि उसके गुणों से होता है, वैसे ही संत की महानता उसके आंतरिक बोध में निहित है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that just as it is impossible to measure the infinite sky or weigh the entire earth, it is equally futile to define a true seeker by their caste or lineage. Much like the legendary Philosopher's Stone (Paras), whose value lies not in its appearance but in its transformative power, a saint's worth is found in their inner realization, not social standing.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि राजमहलों की विलासिता में डूबी स्त्रियों की तुलना में उस साधारण पनिहारी (पानी भरने वाली स्त्री) का सम्मान करना चाहिए। यद्यपि वह शारीरिक रूप से श्रम करती है, किंतु उसका मन अपने प्रियतम के प्रेम और ईश्वर के निरंतर स्मरण में लीन रहता है, जो उसे आंतरिक शांति और पवित्रता प्रदान करता है।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that one should not disparage the simple water-carrier woman in favor of the opulent women of royal courts. While the latter live in luxury, the water-carrier, despite her toil, keeps her heart anchored in the love of her beloved and the constant remembrance of the Divine, achieving a spiritual purity that gold cannot buy.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि सांसारिक सुख की खोज में मुनि तपस्या करते हैं और देवता तथा मनुष्य विलाप करते रहते हैं। परंतु वास्तविक और स्थायी सुख, जो सहजता से प्राप्त होता है, वह केवल संतों की सच्ची संगति और उनके मार्गदर्शन से ही संभव है।

Meaning: Kabir explains that while sages strive relentlessly for happiness and both celestial beings and humans lament its absence, true and effortless bliss is not found in struggle. Instead, this innate joy is realized through the company of the enlightened—the saints who mirror the divine truth.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि सिद्धों के मार्ग में बहुत अंतराय और जटिलताएं हैं, जबकि एक सच्चे साधु का मत अत्यंत स्पष्ट, शक्तिशाली और सीधा होता है। जो लोग केवल सिद्धियों और बाहरी चमत्कारों के पीछे भागते हैं, वे स्वयं को भ्रम में खो देते हैं, परंतु एक सच्चा साधु अपने ज्ञान से जीव को अस्तित्व के नौ भी नौ लोकों के बंधनों से मुक्त करा देता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the paths of the 'Siddhas' (those seeking occult powers) are riddled with internal contradictions and complexities, whereas the vision of a true 'Sadhu' (a realized soul) is potent and direct. Those who gamble their lives chasing supernatural feats only lose themselves, but a true sage liberates the seeker from the shackles of the nine realms of existence.

अर्थ: संत का निवास स्थान इतना सूक्ष्म और गहरा है कि उसे ब्रह्मा और वेद भी नहीं देख पाते। छह दर्शन (षड्दर्शन) केवल बौद्धिक बहस और तर्क-वितर्क में उलझे रहते हैं, जबकि सत्य का वास्तविक रहस्य केवल वही व्यक्ति जान पाता है जो अहंकार शून्य होकर अनुभव की गहराई में उतरता है।

Meaning: The dwelling place of a realized saint is so subtle and profound that neither Brahma nor the Vedas can perceive it. While the six schools of philosophy engage in endless intellectual disputes and noise, the secret of ultimate truth is realized only by the rare few who transcend the intellect to experience the divine directly.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि इस परम सत्य और निराकार ब्रह्म की गहराई इतनी अगाध है कि ब्रह्मा, विष्णु और शिव जैसे महान देवता भी इसे पूरी तरह समझने में थक गए। यहाँ तक कि गीता जैसे महान ग्रंथ भी उस अंतिम सत्य की पूर्ण प्राप्ति नहीं करा सके; केवल एक सिद्ध संत या आत्मज्ञानी गुरु के मार्गदर्शन से ही इस रहस्यमयी द्वार में प्रवेश संभव है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the depth of the Ultimate Truth and the Formless Divine is so profound that even the great deities—Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva—became exhausted in their attempt to grasp it. Even the wisdom of the Gita could not fully bridge the gap to that final realization; only through the grace and guidance of a realized Saint can one truly enter the sanctuary of this absolute truth.
