कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मैं और तुम दोनों ही उस एक अविनाशी 'शब्द' या नाद से उत्पन्न हुए हैं। मेरी बात सुनकर विचलित या विमुख न हो। यदि तुम वास्तव में अपने वास्तविक स्वरूप और आत्म-तत्त्व को जानना चाहते हो, तो तुम्हें इस आंतरिक शब्द की कसौटी पर स्वयं को परखना होगा।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that both the speaker and the listener are manifestations of the same primordial 'Shabd' or Cosmic Sound. He urges the seeker not to recoil or be deterred by his words. If one truly desires to realize their own essential nature and ultimate truth, they must test their consciousness through the lens of this divine vibration.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मैंने आपको अपना आध्यात्मिक मार्गदर्शक (कुलहंस) मानकर आपका साथ किया। लेकिन यदि मुझे पता होता कि आप केवल एक भ्रमित बगुले (पाखंडी) हैं, तो मैं आपके साथ एक क्षण भी नहीं बिताता और न ही अपना कोई अंग या समय आपको समर्पित करता।

Meaning: Kabir declares that he associated with the subject believing them to be a 'Kulhans' (a divine swan or spiritual guide). However, he realizes that the person was merely a 'Bagu' (a confused heron/hypocrite). Had he known the truth of this ignorance, he would never have offered a single moment of his time or a shred of his devotion.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब तक सुनने वाला (श्रोता) और बोलने वाला (वक्ता) अलग-अलग महसूस करते हैं, तब तक केवल शब्दों का शोर रहता है। लेकिन जब सुनने वाला और बोलने वाला एक ही चेतना के घर में विलीन हो जाते हैं, तब उस आदि-अनंत सत्य की वास्तविक कथा का अनुभव होता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that as long as the listener and the speaker are perceived as separate entities, there is only the noise of discourse. However, when the listener and the speaker merge into a single abode of consciousness, the primordial and eternal truth begins to unfold.

अर्थ: यह दोहा बताता है कि सत्संगति से जीवन में सुख और शांति का उदय होता है, जबकि बुरी संगति केवल दुखों और मानसिक क्लेशों को जन्म देती है। जो व्यक्ति शब्दों के वास्तविक अर्थ को समझने की विवेकशक्ति रखता है, वही अपने जीवन के संदेहों और भ्रमों को मिटाकर सत्य का साक्षात्कार कर सकता है।

Meaning: This couplet asserts that virtuous company blossoms into lasting happiness, whereas toxic associations inevitably yield suffering. Only those who possess the discernment to understand the true essence of the Divine Word (Shabd) can shatter the fragments of doubt and attain spiritual clarity.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि इस संसार में समय की प्रकृति पर विचार करो। कुछ लोग गृहस्थ जीवन के मोह में फंसे हैं और कुछ वैराग्य या योग के मार्ग पर चल रहे हैं। लेकिन सत्य यह है कि समय निरंतर बीत रहा है और अवसर हाथ से निकल रहे हैं। जो लोग इस वास्तविकता से अनजान हैं, वे केवल भ्रम में जी रहे हैं।

Meaning: Kabir urges us to contemplate the nature of time within this worldly existence. Some are entangled in the domesticities of householder life, while others seek liberation through asceticism or yoga. However, the core truth is that time is relentlessly slipping away, and precious opportunities for awakening are being lost. Those who remain oblivious to this urgency are merely drifting in ignorance.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि एक सज्जन व्यक्ति केवल दूसरों की बातों में आकर दुर्जन बन गया। यह वैसा ही है जैसे कोई यह मान ले कि कांसा तांबा बन गया है, जबकि वास्तव में उसकी मूल कीमत और गुण नहीं बदले, केवल भ्रम पैदा हुआ है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that a virtuous person becomes wicked simply by listening to the words of others. He compares this to the illusion that bell-metal has turned into copper; while the appearance or perception might change, the intrinsic value and nature remain unaltered, yet the person loses their way.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि हे संतों, सद्गुरु के वचनों को ध्यान से सुनो और व्यर्थ के मानसिक बोझ या अहंकार को अपने सिर पर मत लादो। जब सत्य का मार्ग दिखाने वाला गुरु साक्षात तुम्हारे सामने खड़ा है, तो तुम अब भी संशय और बाहरी आडंबरों में क्यों उलझे हुए हो?

Meaning: Kabir urges the seekers to listen intently to the words of the True Guru and cease carrying the unnecessary burden of mental constructs and ego. He questions why one continues to struggle with doubt and external rituals when the living embodiment of Truth stands directly before them, offering a clear path to liberation.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि उन्होंने न तो कभी कागज छुआ और न ही कभी कलम पकड़ी, अर्थात वे औपचारिक शिक्षा और किताबी ज्ञान से पूरी तरह अनभिज्ञ थे। इसके बावजूद, उन्होंने उस शाश्वत सत्य और महानता को प्राप्त कर लिया है जो युगों-युगों तक प्रासंगिक रहेगा, और अब वे उसी अनुभवजन्य सत्य को अपने शब्दों के माध्यम से दुनिया को बता रहे हैं।

Meaning: Kabir declares that he has never touched paper nor held a pen, signifying his complete lack of formal schooling or scriptural erudition. Despite this absence of academic learning, he has realized the supreme truth and greatness that transcends eras, and he now shares this direct, experiential wisdom through his spoken words.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य इस संसार में एक गहरे सपने में सो रहा है। यदि वह अपनी आध्यात्मिक आँखें खोलकर देखे, तो उसे एहसास होगा कि वह मोह-माया की लूट में सब कुछ खो चुका है और अंत में उसके पास वास्तविक सत्य के नाम पर कुछ भी शेष नहीं बचा है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that humanity exists in a state of profound slumber, dreaming a dream of worldly existence. If one were to open their spiritual eyes, they would realize that the soul has been plundered by the illusions of Maya, leaving the seeker with nothing of eternal value at the end of the journey.

अर्थ: इस दोहे में कबीर कहते हैं कि समस्त मानवता की उत्पत्ति इसी पृथ्वी से हुई है और यही धरती हम सभी का पालन-पोषण करती है। विडंबना यह है कि जिस धरती ने सबको जीवन दिया, वह स्वयं अपने गुणों और अपनी महानता से अनभिज्ञ है। कबीर हमें ऐसे गुरु के सानिध्य में रहने की प्रेरणा देते हैं जो हमें इसी प्रकार की निस्वार्थ सेवा और विनम्रता का बोध करा सकें।
