कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि इस संसार की माया इतनी शक्तिशाली और व्यापक है कि स्वयं सृष्टि के रचयिता ब्रह्मा, पालनहार विष्णु और संहारक महेश (शिव) भी इसके प्रभाव में हैं। यहाँ तक कि महान ऋषि नारद, विद्या की देवी सरस्वती, सनक और सनन्दन जैसे महान तपस्वी, और गौरी एवं गणेश जैसे दिव्य व्यक्तित्व भी माया के इस जटिल जाल से पूरी तरह मुक्त नहीं हैं।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the illusion of Maya is so pervasive and potent that even the highest deities—Brahma the Creator, Vishnu the Preserver, and Shiva the Destroyer—are subject to its influence. Even the most enlightened beings, such as Sage Narada, Goddess Saraswati, the ascetic Sanak and Sanandan, and the divine Gauri and Ganesh, are not entirely exempt from the subtle grip of this cosmic play.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यह संसार माया के कारण एक जहरीले सांप की तरह बन गया है, जिसने अपने भीतर विष संचित कर रखा है। पूरी दुनिया इस मोह-माया के जाल में बुरी तरह फंसी हुई है, लेकिन कबीर इस मायावी जाल को पहचान कर उससे मुक्त होकर किनारे से निकल गए हैं।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the world has become like a venomous serpent due to Maya, harboring a lethal poison of attachment. While the entire world remains hopelessly entangled in the intricate webs of illusion and desire, Kabir has recognized the trap and skillfully navigated his way to liberation, walking free along the edge.

अर्थ: यह आध्यात्मिक मार्ग अत्यंत कठिन और चुनौतीपूर्ण है, इसलिए बिना पूर्ण तैयारी और संकल्प के यहाँ कोई न आए। जो इस मार्ग पर निकल गया, वह अपनी पुरानी पहचान और अहंकार को पीछे छोड़ देता है और कभी वापस नहीं लौटता; क्योंकि जो पूर्णता को पा लेता है, वह फिर कभी उस अज्ञानता की स्थिति में नहीं लौट सकता जहाँ से वह चला था।

Meaning: The path to ultimate truth is exceedingly arduous; therefore, one should not venture upon it lightly. Once a seeker embarks on this journey of total surrender, there is no returning to the former self. Those who have merged into the Infinite do not return to the world of duality to report their well-being, for the 'I' that started the journey has ceased to exist.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि जो व्यक्ति मुख से तो बहुत मीठी और मधुर बातें करता है, परंतु उसके हृदय के भीतर कुछ और ही विचार या कपट छिपा होता है, वह वास्तव में धोखेबाज है। ऐसे पाखंडी लोगों से सावधान रहना चाहिए क्योंकि वे ऊपर से राम का नाम लेते हैं पर भीतर से विरक्त और कुटिल होते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir warns against those who speak sweet words while harboring contradictory or malicious intentions in their hearts. He suggests that such hypocrisy is a dangerous facade; those who project a pious or kind image while remaining internally deceitful are not truly aligned with the Divine, and one must remain vigilant around such individuals.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि अज्ञानी मनुष्य केवल बाहरी शरीर, नाखूनों और बालों की सुंदरता या साज-सज्जा में उलझा रहता है। वह यह भूल जाता है कि जब आत्मा पर अज्ञान का प्रहार होता है या जब मृत्यु का समय आता है, तो ये बाहरी दिखावे किसी काम नहीं आते। जैसे एक शिकारी उस शिकार का क्या करेगा जिसे उसका बाण छू ही न पाए, वैसे ही बाहरी आडंबर उस व्यक्ति को नहीं बचा सकते जिसने आंतरिक सत्य को नहीं पहचाना।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the ignorant human spends their entire existence obsessing over the superficial—the nails, the hair, and the outward adornments of the physical shell. He warns that these external trappings are useless when the soul is confronted by the ultimate truth or the inevitability of death. Just as a hunter is powerless against a target that cannot be pierced by his arrow, external rituals and physical beauty cannot protect or save one who has failed to realize the internal spiritual essence.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि एक मूर्ख व्यक्ति को ज्ञान देने का प्रयास करना व्यर्थ है, क्योंकि उसकी अज्ञानता की गांठें इतनी गहरी हैं कि वे नहीं खुलतीं। जिस प्रकार कोयले को चाहे कितने भी साबुन से धोया जाए, वह कभी सफेद नहीं हो सकता, वैसे ही जिस व्यक्ति के भीतर अहंकार और जड़ता है, वह बाहरी उपदेशों से नहीं बदलता।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that attempting to impart wisdom to a fool is a futile endeavor, as the knots of their ignorance are too deeply ingrained to be undone. Just as a piece of coal can never be turned white regardless of how much soap is used to scrub it, a person blinded by ego and mental rigidity cannot be transformed by mere external instructions.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मूर्ख और दुष्ट व्यक्ति को ज्ञान देना व्यर्थ है। जिस प्रकार पत्थर पर तीर चलाने से केवल तीर नष्ट होता है और पत्थर पर कोई प्रभाव नहीं पड़ता, उसी प्रकार अज्ञानी व्यक्ति को उपदेश देना केवल अपना समय और ऊर्जा नष्ट करना है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that attempting to impart wisdom to a fool or a malicious person is a futile endeavor. Just as firing an arrow at a stone only results in the destruction of the arrow without leaving a mark on the rock, offering spiritual guidance to the stubbornly ignorant only wastes the teacher's own energy and precious resources.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि हे मूर्ख मनुष्य, तू अंततः मृत्यु को प्राप्त होगा ही, लेकिन तू बिना किसी आध्यात्मिक उपलब्धि या ज्ञान के, एक खाली माथे (अज्ञानी) के साथ मर जाएगा। तू उस सूखे पेड़ की तरह है जो बिना फल दिए गिर जाता है। तू यह सोचकर समय व्यर्थ कर रहा है कि मृत्यु भविष्य में आएगी, जबकि मृत्यु का क्षण आज भी हो सकता है।

Meaning: Kabir addresses the oblivious human soul, warning that death is an absolute certainty, yet most face it with an empty mind, devoid of spiritual realization. He compares the ignorant person to a withered tree that falls without ever bearing fruit. The warning is stark: do not procrastinate your spiritual awakening by assuming death is a distant event; it can claim you this very moment.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वे इस संसार की अज्ञानता और आध्यात्मिक अंधापन देखकर दुखी हैं और रो रहे हैं, लेकिन इस संसार में कोई ऐसा नहीं है जो उनकी इस पीड़ा को समझ सके। केवल वही व्यक्ति कबीर के इस विलाप में साथ दे सकता है जो 'शब्द' के वास्तविक अर्थ को जानने वाला और विवेकशील हो।

Meaning: Kabir laments the profound ignorance and spiritual blindness of the world, weeping for humanity's lost state, yet finds that no one weeps for him or his sorrow. He asserts that only those who possess the discernment of the 'Shabad' (the Divine Word/Sound) can truly empathize with his spiritual anguish.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि वह मनुष्य क्या सोचे या प्रयास करे जिसके हृदय के द्वार अहंकार और अज्ञानता के कारण बंद हैं। यदि कोई व्यक्ति सत्य के प्रति खुला नहीं है, तो वह सोने के चाक (अत्यधिक भौतिक सुख या बाहरी आडंबरों) पर बैठा रहे, फिर भी वह केवल अपनी पुरानी आदतों और भ्रमों को ही चाटता रहेगा, वास्तविक ज्ञान उसे कभी प्राप्त नहीं होगा।

Meaning: Kabir questions the utility of intellectualizing or striving for a person whose inner doors of consciousness remain locked by ego and ignorance. Even if such a person is seated upon a golden wheel—symbolizing the highest material luxury or external religious rituals—they continue to obsess over their own illusions, never tasting the actual nectar of spiritual liberation.
