अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वह कुल या वंश वास्तव में श्रेष्ठ है, जिसमें किसी ऐसे व्यक्ति का जन्म हो जो ईश्वर का सच्चा सेवक (दास) बन सके। जिस कुल में आध्यात्मिक जागृति या निस्वार्थ समर्पण वाला व्यक्ति पैदा नहीं होता, वह कुल आक और पलास के वृक्षों के समान व्यर्थ और निष्फल है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a lineage or family is truly noble only if it produces a 'daas'—a servant of the Divine or a seeker of truth. A family that fails to nurture a soul capable of spiritual surrender and self-realization is as useless and devoid of spiritual fruit as the Aak and Palash trees, which provide no shade or sustenance.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि बाहरी सामाजिक पहचान, चाहे वह एक उच्च जाति के ब्राह्मण की हो या एक निम्न जाति के चंडाल की, आध्यात्मिक सत्य की प्राप्ति में कोई सहायता नहीं करती। केवल आंतरिक प्रेम और भक्ति की माला (अंकमाल) ही वह माध्यम है जिससे परमात्मा (गोपाल) का साक्षात्कार संभव है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that external social identities, whether they belong to a high-caste Brahmin or a low-caste Chandal, offer no utility in attaining spiritual truth. Only the garland of inner love and sincere devotion (Ankmala) serves as the genuine medium through which the Divine (Gopal) can be realized.

अर्थ: यह दोहा मानव जीवन की अज्ञानता और कर्मों के बंधन को दर्शाता है। कबीर कहते हैं कि यह संसार एक काजल की कोठरी के समान है जहाँ हमारी दृष्टि धुंधली है, और हमारे बुरे कर्मों ने इस कोठरी के दरवाजों को स्याही (मसि) से बंद कर दिया है। मनुष्य सत्य की खोज में भटक रहा है, जबकि विद्वान भी इस मायाजाल के मार्ग में उलझकर अपनी राह भूल गए हैं।

Meaning: This couplet illustrates the profound ignorance and karmic bondage of human existence. Kabir describes the world as a room smeared with soot, where vision is obscured, and the doors are sealed shut by the ink of our own deeds. While the seeker attempts to find a way out, even the learned scholars find themselves stranded, unable to navigate the darkness of this illusory prison.

अर्थ: कबीर यहाँ एक गहरे विरोधाभास की बात कर रहे हैं। वे कहते हैं कि जो स्वयं को स्वामी या मालिक मानता है, वह वास्तव में मोह और अहंकार के बंधन में जकड़ा हुआ है, जबकि जो स्वयं को दास या समर्पित मानता है, वह वास्तव में स्वतंत्र है। जैसे एक गडरिये ने अपनी गायों को बांध रखा है, वैसे ही अज्ञानी व्यक्ति अपनी भौतिक इच्छाओं और सामाजिक पहचान के बंधनों में बंधकर जीवन भर केवल बाहरी दुनिया की चराई (माया) में लगा रहता है, जबकि उसकी आत्मा की स्वतंत्रता उसके सामने होते हुए भी वह उसे पहचान नहीं पाता।

Meaning: Kabir presents a profound paradox regarding mastery and servitude. He suggests that he who considers himself a master or a lord is actually enslaved by ego and attachment, whereas he who accepts the state of a servant—surrendering the ego—finds true liberation. He likens the ignorant person to a herdsman who keeps his cattle bound; though the cattle graze on the cotton fields (the material world), they are tethered. Similarly, the human soul, blinded by the illusion of ownership and status, remains bound by the ropes of Maya, grazing on the superficialities of existence while missing the infinite freedom of the spirit.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि कलियुग का स्वामी लोभ है। जिस प्रकार पीतल पर पॉलिश करके उसे सोने जैसा दिखाया जाता है, वैसे ही लोभी व्यक्ति बाहरी दिखावे और आडंबरों का सहारा लेता है। वह राजदरबारों में इस तरह भटकता है जैसे कोई रंगीन कपड़े पहनकर अपनी असलियत छिपाने की कोशिश कर रहा हो, जबकि उसके भीतर सत्य का अभाव है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the presiding deity of the Kali Yuga is greed. Just as brass is polished to mimic the luster of gold, the greedy individual adorns themselves with superficiality and pretense. They wander through the corridors of power and prestige, masquerading in vibrant colors to hide their inner void, mistaking external validation for spiritual worth.

अर्थ: पड़ोसी के साथ विवाद करना या उनसे नाराज रहना धीरे-धीरे जीवन के सुखों को नष्ट कर देता है। जो लोग अत्यधिक विद्वान या नियम-परायण होने का ढोंग करते हैं, वे इतने संकीर्ण हो जाते हैं कि वे पानी को भी छानकर पीते हैं, अर्थात वे जीवन की सहजता को खोकर केवल बाहरी शुद्धता और अहंकार में उलझ जाते हैं।

Meaning: Maintaining enmity or resentment toward one's neighbor leads to the gradual erosion of one's own peace and happiness. Those who pride themselves on being overly scholarly or ritualistically pure become so rigid and obsessed with external purity that they filter their water meticulously, losing the essence of natural living to the grip of spiritual arrogance.

अर्थ: कबीर यहाँ समाज के पाखंड और धार्मिक अंधविश्वासों पर तीखा प्रहार कर रहे हैं। वे कहते हैं कि लोग बाहरी कर्मकांडों और जातिगत श्रेष्ठता के अहंकार में इतने अंधे हैं कि वे क्रूरता करते हैं, फिर भी यह विश्वास रखते हैं कि केवल उच्च कुल में जन्म लेने या दिखावटी अनुष्ठानों से उन्हें स्वर्ग प्राप्त होगा, जबकि वास्तविक धर्म करुणा और सत्य में है।

Meaning: Kabir delivers a scathing critique of societal hypocrisy and religious superstition. He observes that people are so blinded by external rituals and the arrogance of caste superiority that they commit atrocities, yet cling to the delusion that birth into a high caste or performative piety guarantees a place in heaven, ignoring that true righteousness lies in compassion and truth.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि काशी और काबा दोनों एक ही सत्य के अलग-अलग नाम हैं, और राम तथा रहीम वास्तव में एक ही परमात्मा के विभिन्न स्वरूप हैं। जिस प्रकार मैदा एक ही होता है जिससे अनेक प्रकार के पकवान बनाए जाते हैं, उसी प्रकार मूल तत्व एक ही है, जिसे कबीर आनंदपूर्वक ग्रहण कर रहे हैं।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that Kashi and Kaaba are but different names for the same ultimate truth, and Ram and Rahim are merely diverse titles for the one singular Divine. Just as a single piece of flour can be transformed into numerous varied delicacies, the primordial essence remains one, and Kabir invites us to sit and feast upon this singular, universal truth.

अर्थ: कबीर यहाँ सामाजिक और धार्मिक पाखंड पर प्रहार कर रहे हैं। वे कहते हैं कि चाहे वह ब्राह्मण हो, राजा हो या कोई अन्य उच्च वर्ण का व्यक्ति, और चाहे वे छत्तीस प्रकार की शुद्धता (पवित्रता) का पालन करने का दावा करें, लेकिन जब वे अनैतिकता और लालच में पड़कर मर्यादा तोड़ते हैं (जैसे रोटी पर मछली का उदाहरण), तो उनकी सारी कथित पवित्रता समाप्त हो जाती है और वे सभी समान रूप से पतित या पाखंडी बन जाते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir strikes at the heart of social and religious hypocrisy. He asserts that whether one is a Brahmin, a King, or of any high caste, and regardless of the thirty-six types of ritual purity they claim to maintain, once they succumb to greed or unethical behavior—symbolized by the act of placing fish upon bread—all their superficial sanctity vanishes. In the eyes of truth, they all become equally fallen or corrupted by their own delusions.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि कलियुग के समय के तथाकथित ब्राह्मण, जो स्वयं को पवित्र और उच्च मानते हैं, वे मांस और मछली का सेवन करते हैं। वे बाहरी दिखावे और पाखंड के माध्यम से सुख और सम्मान की कामना करते हैं, लेकिन कबीर चेतावनी देते हैं कि ऐसा ढोंग अंततः विनाश और आध्यात्मिक पतन का कारण बनता है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that the self-proclaimed priests of the Kali Yuga, who claim divine purity and superiority, secretly consume meat and fish. They seek social prestige and worldly comfort through outward rituals and hypocrisy, but Kabir warns that such spiritual deception leads only to internal incineration and ultimate ruin.
