Meaning: Just as a tree never consumes its own fruit and a river never hoards its own water, a true seeker or saint embodies a physical form solely for the purpose of altruism. Their existence is dedicated to the selfless service of others and the pursuit of the ultimate truth for the collective good.

Meaning: Kabir inquires about the rarity and nature of a true spiritual guide or the Divine. Such a being is one who bestows eternal bliss, eradicates the root of suffering, and cleanses the soul of its accumulated transgressions. The poet wonders when one truly encounters such a profoundly loving and compassionate master.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a true seeker or saint is not defined by outward appearances or religious attire, but by their conduct. A genuine 'Sadhu' is one who consistently engages in selfless service for the greater good and speaks words that are sweet, compassionate, and spiritually nourishing.

Meaning: Kabir observes that outwardly, all saints or spiritual seekers appear identical, much like crops in a single field. However, upon deeper discernment, a distinction emerges: some are truly enlightened and discerning (symbolized by red), while others remain mere practitioners of external ritual or ignorance (symbolized by white).

Meaning: When a person masters their senses and the restless mind, the heart naturally becomes tender and compassionate. Such an individual maintains absolute purity in their conduct, and their thoughts remain perpetually immersed in the stillness of divine consciousness and spiritual equilibrium.

Meaning: One may visit millions of pilgrimage sites and worship countless shrines, but as long as one does not serve and seek the company of a true realized soul (Saadhu), their spiritual endeavors remain incomplete and unripe. External rituals are futile without the internal transformation sparked by the guidance of a living embodiment of truth.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that one who has crossed the ocean of existence and tasted the celestial food of divine realization is truly awakened. He warns that the words of such realized saints should not be ignored or dismissed, as their wisdom springs from direct experience rather than scholarly rote learning.

Meaning: The realized soul is like a lotus leaf that dwells within the waters of the world yet remains untouched by them. Just as a mother, consumed by the selfless love for her child, forgets her own individual identity and personal needs, the seeker resides in the material realm while remaining entirely detached from its clinging attachments and illusions.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that when a person renounces futile expectations, they liberate themselves from the grip of Maya. By shedding attachment and ego, one transcends the duality of joy, sorrow, and criticism, eventually attaining the state of a true saint or realized soul.

Meaning: Kabir advises that when one seeks the presence of a true saint, every step must be taken with profound mindfulness and humility. He warns that the world is akin to a continuous 'Ashvamedha' (horse sacrifice), where the ego is constantly being fed and illusions are perpetuated at every turn.
