अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यह संसार काजल की एक अंधेरी कोठरी के समान है, जहाँ अज्ञानता और मोह का गहरा कालापन व्याप्त है। वह व्यक्ति वास्तव में प्रशंसनीय और धन्य है, जो इस मायावी अंधकार को पार कर आत्म-साक्षात्कार के प्रकाश में बाहर निकलने का मार्ग खोज लेता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that this material world is akin to a small room filled with soot or kohl, where the darkness of ignorance and attachment permeates everything. अर्थ: मनुष्य बाहरी दिखावे, रेशमी वस्त्रों और विलासिता के सुखों में डूबा रहता है, यह सोचकर कि यही जीवन की सार्थकता है। परंतु कबीर कहते हैं कि बिना ईश्वर के नाम रूपी नाव के, यह भौतिक आडंबर आत्मा को पार नहीं लगा सकते और अंततः जीव कर्मों के बंधन में बंधकर मृत्यु के पश्चात कष्ट पाता है।

Meaning: This couplet illustrates that the disciple's mind is saturated with the mire of worldly attachments, ignorance, and accumulated sins. When the purifying waters of the Guru's spiritual knowledge touch the soul, the grime of countless lifetimes is washed away in a single instant of awakening.

अर्थ: बिना वास्तविक ज्ञान के आध्यात्मिक जागृति संभव नहीं है और बिना एक समर्थ गुरु के मोक्ष की प्राप्ति नहीं हो सकती। गुरु के मार्गदर्शन के बिना मनुष्य सत्य के वास्तविक स्वरूप को नहीं देख पाता और न ही अपने भीतर के गहरे दोषों और अज्ञानता का निवारण कर पाता है।

Meaning: Without true spiritual knowledge, awakening cannot arise, and without a realized Guru, liberation (Moksha) remains unattainable. In the absence of a guide, one cannot perceive the ultimate Truth nor eradicate the deep-seated flaws and ignorance residing within the soul.

अर्थ: संसार रूपी इस विशाल और डरावने सागर के भय से बचने के लिए, केवल सद्गुरु का हाथ थामना ही एकमात्र उपाय है। इस मोह-माया की तीव्र जलधारा में, जहाँ मनुष्य अपनी वासनाओं और अज्ञानता में डूब रहा है, वहाँ गुरु के मार्गदर्शन के बिना कोई भी व्यक्ति स्वयं को पार नहीं लगा सकता।

Meaning: To escape the terror of the vast ocean of worldly existence, one must firmly grasp the hand of a true spiritual master. In the torrential currents of illusion and desire, where the soul is perpetually drowning, there is no one capable of rescuing the seeker from these depths except the Guru.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि यदि आप अपने जीवन के वास्तविक उद्देश्य और आध्यात्मिक कल्याण की इच्छा रखते हैं, तो सच्चे संतों की खोज करें। ऐसे गुरु या संत का साथ ही इस संसार के जन्म-मरण के चक्र (भव) के बंधनों को मिटा सकता है और आत्मा को इस अंतहीन आवागमन से मुक्ति दिलाकर परम शांति की ओर ले जा सकता है।
