(Eternal Truth) — Kabir Dohas

Meaning: Before the Divine, only truth prevails, and only truth is pleasing to the Creator. Whether a person speaks the truth openly or suppresses it within, the fundamental reality of truth remains unchanged. Ultimately, only that which is authentic and honest stands before the Almighty; external pretenses or strategic silences hold no value.

Meaning: Kabir expresses profound gratitude for the milk from which pure clarified butter (ghee) is extracted. He asserts that his couplets (Sakhis) are like that essence—the ghee—containing the distilled spiritual truth and the living soul of the four Vedas, stripped of unnecessary ritualism.

Meaning: True spiritual realization or 'Satbhav' is that which reveals the actual distinction between the individual soul and the Divine, and subsequently their ultimate unity. Blessed is the head and the destiny of that seeker who attains this profound awareness, for such knowledge is the only key to liberation from the cycle of existence.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that mere scholarly learning and the pride of intellectualism cannot lead one to liberation. Many pundits spent their lives studying texts and analyzing virtues, yet died in spiritual ignorance. True knowledge is unattainable without the grace of a living Guru, and without this realization, liberation remains elusive. Only the 'Sat Shabd'—the Eternal Word or Truth—stands as the ultimate authority and proof.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that true, profound love does not fade with time. Just as a stone, once heated in a fire, retains its internal warmth even after being submerged in water for years, a genuine spiritual connection and love, once ignited, remain permanently etched within the soul.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that mere outward claims of truthfulness or intellectual adherence to truth are meaningless if one has not realized the Eternal Truth (the Name). Only when a seeker becomes internally truthful and aligned with their essence can they encounter the Absolute Truth, for Truth is accessible only through Truth, eventually merging the individual soul into the universal oneness.

Meaning: There is no austerity as potent as Truth, and no sin as grave as falsehood. In the heart where Truth resides in its purest form, the Divine Himself manifests. Truth is not merely the act of speaking correctly, but the state of being authentic.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the Divine is indestructible, unbroken, and immutable from the beginning, through the middle, and until the end of all time. He suggests that one who dedicates themselves to the selfless service of this Eternal Creator establishes an unbreakable bond, ensuring that the Divine presence never departs from their side.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that when he speaks of the ultimate existence or spiritual realization (Aasti), people remain skeptical because they seek external proofs or miraculous signs. However, true realization is self-evident and requires no outward validation. He compares this to a diamond; its value and authenticity are inherent in its internal brilliance, not in the labels or claims made about it.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the Ultimate Truth, for which great sages performed rigorous austerities and the Vedas exhausted themselves singing its praises, is the only true Teacher. Yet, the paradox remains that this divine reality is so profoundly internal and simple that the world refuses to believe in it, preferring instead the noise of external rituals.
