(Compassion) — Kabir Dohas

Meaning: Kabir warns against the killing or harming of any living being, asserting that the cycle of karma is inevitable and the victim will eventually seek retribution. He emphasizes that outward rituals, such as visiting holy shrines or donating millions of diamonds, cannot erase the sin of violence; true redemption lies in compassion.

Meaning: O innocent soul, do not slay any living being, for the same vital breath animates every creature. No matter how many millions of scriptures or Puranas you recite, the karmic stain of killing never vanishes; it remains etched upon the soul.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that true bravery or heroism is validated only when one fights selflessly for the sake of the poor, the downtrodden, and the marginalized. A real warrior is not one who battles for power or ego, but one who persists in the face of repeated hardships and failures, refusing to abandon the field of struggle until the cause of the suffering is alleviated.

Meaning: Kabir proclaims that the tree is the ultimate giver, offering fruits and shade to all without discrimination. It embodies the spirit of selfless service throughout its existence. Just as birds fly in all directions and the tree continues to bear fruit without expectation, a true seeker must serve humanity with an unconditional and selfless heart.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that one who fights merely with the strength of weapons or the arrogance of power is not a true warrior. The real hero is the one who possesses the courage to share their wealth, resources, and love with others, practicing selfless generosity.

Meaning: Kabir describes the worldly existence as a vast, overwhelming ocean, where the human soul is submerged in the depths of illusion and ignorance. This ocean is so profound and unfathomable that individual effort and intellectual prowess are insufficient to cross it. Only the boundless grace and compassion of the Divine can provide the stability and direction needed to find a footing and eventually reach the shore of liberation.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a person who consumes flesh should be regarded as a living demon. He warns against the company of such individuals, stating that associating with those who lack compassion for other living beings inevitably obstructs one's spiritual progress and diminishes the purity of their devotion.

Meaning: Kabir critiques those who, driven by blind ritualism or ignorance, consume that which is unfit even for animals. He questions why a human, endowed with consciousness, would degrade their physical and spiritual existence. He warns that when the inner self is clouded by the filth of ego and malice, the soul descends into a state of spiritual suffering and darkness.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that people of all castes and creeds, consumed by external rituals and sectarian conflicts, waste their spiritual potency. While they mistakenly believe themselves to be true devotees of the Divine, their blindness to inner truth leads them only toward spiritual decay and the realm of suffering.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that one who engages in the slaughter of living beings and embraces violence carries the manifest weight of sin upon their own head. Such a person becomes consumed by destructive actions, blinded to the path of virtue, as their consciousness is entirely occupied by the act of killing.
