करुणा (Compassion) — Kabir Dohas

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वसंत ऋतु के आगमन पर वृक्ष एक याचक (मांगने वाले) की तरह हो जाता है, लेकिन वह खुशी-खुशी अपने पुराने पत्तों का त्याग कर देता है। इस त्याग के परिणामस्वरूप ही नए कोमल पत्ते जन्म लेते हैं। यदि वृक्ष पुराने पत्तों के मोह में उन्हें पकड़े रखे, तो नए पत्तों का आगमन कभी नहीं होगा और वह विकास के द्वार से वंचित रह जाएगा।

Meaning: Kabir observes that with the arrival of spring, the tree becomes like a seeker or a beggar, joyfully shedding its old leaves. Through this act of letting go, new tender foliage is born. If the tree were to cling to its old leaves out of attachment, the new growth would never emerge, and it would remain shut away from the door of renewal.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी चेतावनी देते हैं कि किसी कमजोर या असहाय व्यक्ति को कभी प्रताड़ित नहीं करना चाहिए। ऐसे व्यक्ति की आह या हृदय से निकली गहरी पीड़ा में इतनी शक्ति होती है कि वह बिना किसी बाहरी अग्नि के भी, केवल अपनी आध्यात्मिक ऊर्जा और दुःख की तीव्रता से, अहंकारी व्यक्ति के अस्तित्व को राख कर सकती है।

Meaning: Kabir warns against the oppression of the weak and the marginalized. He asserts that the silent cry or the profound grief of an oppressed soul possesses a spiritual potency so immense that it can incinerate the oppressor's existence—like wax melting in heat—without the need for a physical fire, driven solely by the intensity of their suffering.

अर्थ: यह शरीर अंततः राख में मिल जाएगा और फिर कोई इसे शरीर नहीं कहेगा। इसलिए, इस नश्वर जीवन का वास्तविक फल केवल दूसरों का निस्वार्थ उपकार करना और मानवता की सेवा करना है, क्योंकि केवल यही कर्म मृत्यु के बाद भी सार्थक रहता है।

Meaning: This physical body will eventually turn into ash, and no one will recognize it as a body anymore. Therefore, the true fruit and purpose of this transient life lie solely in performing selfless acts of kindness and service to others, as only these deeds remain meaningful beyond death.

अर्थ: यदि मनुष्य का मन शांत और शीतल रहे, तो उसे इस संसार में कोई भी शत्रु प्रतीत नहीं होगा। जैसे ही व्यक्ति अपने अहंकार और 'मैं' की भावना का त्याग कर देता है, संपूर्ण जगत उसके प्रति करुणा और प्रेम भाव से भर जाता है।

Meaning: If a person's mind remains calm and cool, they will find no enemies in this world. The moment one discards the ego and the sense of 'I-ness', the entire universe responds with compassion and kindness toward them.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जो व्यक्ति निरंतर उस निराकार राम का स्मरण करता है और अपने सद्गुरु के चरणों में एकाग्र रहता है, वह सही मार्ग पर है। लेकिन वास्तविक मुक्ति केवल नाम जप से नहीं, बल्कि अपनी आत्मा की पूजा और समस्त जीवित प्राणियों के प्रति करुणा दिखाने से प्राप्त होती है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that while chanting the name of the Formless Divine and meditating upon the feet of the True Guru are essential steps, true liberation is not achieved through ritual alone. It is attained when one combines inner spiritual realization (soul-worship) with active, selfless compassion toward all living beings.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार पृथ्वी को खोदने और खोदने पर भी वह सब सहन कर लेती है, और वन के वृक्षों को काटने-छाँटने पर भी वे मौन रहते हैं, उसी प्रकार एक सच्चा साधु या आत्मज्ञानी व्यक्ति दूसरों के कड़वे और कुटिल शब्दों को धैर्यपूर्वक सहन करता है। साधारण मनुष्य के लिए ऐसा करना असंभव है क्योंकि वह अहंकार से बंधा होता है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that just as the earth endures being dug and ploughed, and the forests endure being felled and pruned, a true seeker or realized soul bears the brunt of harsh and malicious words with equanimity. While the common person is easily wounded by insults, the sage possesses a spiritual resilience that allows them to absorb negativity without reacting.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि सांसारिक मित्र और साथी केवल स्वार्थ से बंधे होते हैं; जब व्यक्ति संकट या दुख में होता है, तो वे साथ छोड़ देते हैं। इसके विपरीत, वह परमात्मा (परमारथी) जो परम सत्य है, वह व्यक्ति की हर स्थिति में—चाहे वह सुख हो या दुख—सदैव उसके साथ उपस्थित रहता है।

Meaning: Kabir explains that worldly companions are driven by self-interest and vanish during times of adversity. In stark contrast, the Divine (Paramarthi), the Ultimate Truth, remains eternally present and steadfast, accompanying the soul through every fluctuation of joy and sorrow without condition.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि आपका मन शांत और शीतल है, तो संसार में आपका कोई शत्रु नहीं होगा। जब आप अपने अहंकार (आपा) का त्याग कर देते हैं, तो पूरी सृष्टि आपके प्रति करुणा और प्रेम का भाव रखने लगती है।

Meaning: Kabir teaches that if the mind remains cool and serene, no one in the world becomes an enemy. Once you cast aside the 'Aapa' or the egoic sense of self, the entire universe responds to you with compassion and grace.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि किसी भी व्यक्ति की निंदा नहीं करनी चाहिए, चाहे वह स्वभाव, कर्म या परिस्थिति में कैसा भी हो। इसके विपरीत, हमें बार-बार उस व्यक्ति के भीतर स्थित परमात्मा को नमन करना चाहिए, क्योंकि जो व्यक्ति दूसरों के दोषों को अनदेखा कर उनमें ईश्वर को देखता है, वही वास्तव में एक सच्चा साधु या सज्जन व्यक्ति है।

Meaning: Kabir teaches that one must never criticize or disparage another human being, regardless of their flaws, behavior, or social standing. Instead, one should repeatedly bow to the divine spark within them. The true mark of a saint or a realized soul is the ability to see the Eternal Presence in everyone, transcending the superficial imperfections of the ego.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि एक तीतर पक्षी चंदन की लकड़ी पर जलती आग में बैठा है, जिसे वह शीतलता समझ रहा है। कबीर स्वयं को बिना पंखों के भी आध्यात्मिक अग्नि में जलते हुए पाते हैं, जबकि वे दूसरों से पूछते हैं कि वे (जो बाहरी आडंबरों में लिपटे हैं) किस भ्रम में जल रहे हैं।

Meaning: Kabir describes a partridge perched upon burning sandalwood, mistakenly perceiving the fire as coolness. He observes that while he burns in the fire of divine longing even without the 'wings' of ritual or status, he questions those who are consumed by the fires of ego and illusion while believing they are safe.
