Meaning: Kabir asserts that while a person may easily renounce gross illusions—such as wealth, possessions, and worldly attachments—the subtle illusion (jheeni maya), manifesting as ego and minute desires, remains nearly impossible to discard. Even the most enlightened beings, including Peers, Prophets, and Saints, are susceptible to this insidious, invisible web of attachment that silently consumes the spiritual essence of the seeker.

Meaning: This couplet illustrates the extreme fragility and risk inherent in the path of divine love. Kabir suggests that the seeker is perched upon a slender branch of love, tasting spiritual bliss, while below waits the tigress of desire and ego. Should the seeker lose focus or falter in their discipline, they will be instantly devoured by the forces of Maya.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that intellect derived from worldly intoxication or superficial appearances is not true wisdom. Even when a sage as exalted as Narada embraces another out of a misplaced sense of pride or emotional attachment, such trust is hollow because it is not anchored in the eternal, unchanging Truth.

Meaning: Humanity is likened to a moth drawn to a flame, circling in a state of delusion until it is consumed by its own obsession. Liberation from this cycle of spiritual blindness is achieved only through the grace and wisdom of a true Guru, who guides the seeker toward the eternal light of truth.

Meaning: Kabir observes that in the open field of this world, people clash like dogs over pride and possession, regardless of whether they possess millions or hold high status. Ultimately, death is the great equalizer, forcing every soul to abandon all earthly claims and depart empty-handed.

Meaning: Kabir explains that there are two distinct paths or modes of existence in this world. Only the one who possesses the discernment to distinguish between them can truly 'consume' or internalize the truth. One path leads the seeker toward union with the Divine (Ram), while the other, driven by ignorance and ego, leads the soul toward suffering and spiritual degradation.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that worldly pleasures are fleeting, yet the ignorant cling to them as if they were permanent. He compares this attachment to dreaming of royal wealth and treasures, which vanish instantly the moment one awakens from the slumber of ignorance.

Meaning: Man spends his entire existence accumulating wealth and material possessions, blinded by the illusion of permanence. He remains oblivious to the exact moment of his departure. Though he may gather resources that seem sufficient for a thousand years, death arrives in a single heartbeat, rendering all worldly acquisitions instantly void.

Meaning: Kabir warns that Maya (the illusion of the material world) is like a venomous female serpent that consumes those blinded by ignorance. He emphasizes that there is no external medicinal cure or alchemy (Garudi) to neutralize this poison; the only way to overcome it is through spiritual awakening and internalizing the truth.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the divine shadow or presence is equally pervasive in every living being, yet very few possess the insight to recognize it. The Divine pursues those who seek Him with genuine love and devotion, while He retreats from those who attempt to capture Him through ego-driven rituals or mere intellectual arrogance.
