कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: हे मनुष्य, तू ईश्वर की सच्ची भक्ति और आत्म-साधना में लीन हो जा, क्योंकि तभी तुझे उस परम सत्य का साक्षात्कार होगा। याद रख कि यह मानव जीवन अत्यंत दुर्लभ है और यह अवसर बार-बार प्राप्त नहीं होता; इसलिए इसे व्यर्थ न गंवा।

Meaning: O seeker, immerse yourself in true devotion and spiritual discipline, for only then shall you attain the divine vision. Recognize that this human birth is a rare opportunity, a fleeting window of consciousness that does not recur frequently; do not squander it in vanity.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य जीवन रहते सत्य को नहीं समझता और मृत्यु के बाद वह संदेश देने की स्थिति में नहीं होता। जिस व्यक्ति ने अपने शरीर और मन के वास्तविक स्वरूप का परिचय प्राप्त नहीं किया, उसे बाहरी उपदेश देना व्यर्थ है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that humans fail to comprehend the ultimate truth while living, and once dead, they cannot send messages back. For one who lacks an internal realization of their own body and mind, external spiritual instructions are entirely futile.

अर्थ: समय अत्यंत शक्तिशाली और त्वरित है, इसलिए किसी के साथ बुरा व्यवहार न करें। जिस प्रकार बिना बीज बोए फसल नहीं काटी जा सकती, उसी प्रकार हम जो कर्म करते हैं, उन्हीं का फल हमें भविष्य में प्राप्त होता है।

Meaning: Time is absolute and immediate; therefore, one should never commit evil acts. Just as one cannot harvest a crop without first sowing a seed, the fruits of our life are the direct result of the actions we have planted.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी चेतावनी देते हैं कि किसी कमजोर या असहाय व्यक्ति को कभी प्रताड़ित नहीं करना चाहिए। ऐसे व्यक्ति की आह या हृदय से निकली गहरी पीड़ा में इतनी शक्ति होती है कि वह बिना किसी बाहरी अग्नि के भी, केवल अपनी आध्यात्मिक ऊर्जा और दुःख की तीव्रता से, अहंकारी व्यक्ति के अस्तित्व को राख कर सकती है।

Meaning: Kabir warns against the oppression of the weak and the marginalized. He asserts that the silent cry or the profound grief of an oppressed soul possesses a spiritual potency so immense that it can incinerate the oppressor's existence—like wax melting in heat—without the need for a physical fire, driven solely by the intensity of their suffering.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि जीवन में किसी को ठगा जाना है, तो स्वयं ठगे जाओ, लेकिन किसी दूसरे को धोखा न दो। जब हम स्वयं का त्याग करते हैं या दूसरों की गलतियों को क्षमा कर ठगे जाते हैं, तो अंततः आंतरिक शांति और सुख प्राप्त होता है, जबकि दूसरों को ठगने से केवल मानसिक क्लेश और दुख का जन्म होता है।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that if one must be deceived or cheated in this world, it is better to be the victim than the perpetrator. By choosing to be the one who is 'cheated'—essentially practicing selfless surrender and forgiveness—one cultivates inner peace and spiritual joy, whereas deceiving others inevitably leads to suffering and spiritual decay.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य उस बनजारे के बैल की तरह है जो चारों दिशाओं में भटक रहा है। उसकी पीठ पर चीनी (खांड) का कीमती बोझ लदा है, लेकिन वह केवल सूखा भूसा खा रहा है क्योंकि उसे सही मार्गदर्शन देने वाला कोई सतगुरु नहीं है।

Meaning: Kabir likens the human condition to the oxen of a merchant, wandering aimlessly through various lands. Though they carry a precious cargo of sugar on their backs, they continue to eat dry fodder, oblivious to the sweetness they carry, simply because they lack the guidance of a true spiritual teacher.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि इस संसार में जन्म लेने के बाद मनुष्य को अपने अहंकार और घमंड का त्याग कर देना चाहिए। जीवन बहुत संक्षिप्त है; जो आध्यात्मिक लाभ या सद्गुण आपको प्राप्त करने हैं, उन्हें शीघ्रता से प्राप्त कर लें, क्योंकि समय की अवधि समाप्त हो रही है और मृत्यु का समय निकट आ रहा है।

Meaning: Kabir exhorts the seeker to relinquish all pride and arrogance upon entering this worldly existence. Life is a fleeting opportunity; one must swiftly acquire the spiritual treasures and virtues intended for the soul, for the allotted time is rapidly expiring and the final call of death is inevitable.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी चेतावनी देते हैं कि मनुष्य को अहंकार और गर्व का त्याग करना चाहिए। वे कहते हैं कि यदि कोई व्यक्ति उस साधु या संत के सामने अपना सिर नहीं झुकाता जिसमें वास्तविक ज्ञान और विनम्रता है, तो ऐसा अहंकारपूर्ण सिर वास्तव में मृत है या काट दिया जाना चाहिए क्योंकि वह सत्य को देखने में असमर्थ है।

Meaning: Kabir warns against the perils of pride and arrogance. He asserts that one must renounce the ego. If a person refuses to bow their head before a true saint—one who embodies wisdom and humility—then that head is effectively useless or deserves to be severed, as it is blinded by ego and incapable of perceiving the Divine Truth.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि केवल किताबी ज्ञान और शास्त्रों के रटने से मनुष्य का हृदय कठोर हो गया है। वे विद्वान तो बन गए, लेकिन उनके भीतर प्रेम और करुणा का अभाव है। वास्तविक ज्ञान वह है जो हृदय को कोमल करे, न कि उसे पत्थर या ईंट जैसा जड़ बना दे।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the mere accumulation of bookish knowledge and the rote memorization of scriptures have turned humans into stones. While they may have become scholars, they lack love and compassion. True wisdom is that which softens the heart, rather than rendering it as rigid and lifeless as a stone or a brick.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस मोह और आसक्ति के बंधन में यह सारा संसार जकड़ा हुआ है, साधक को उस बंधन में नहीं पड़ना चाहिए। जिस प्रकार आटा बारीक पीसकर मैदा बन जाता है, उसी प्रकार साधना और वैराग्य के माध्यम से इस शरीर और अहंकार को शुद्ध कर उसे सोने जैसा मूल्यवान और दिव्य बनाया जा सकता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the spiritual seeker must not be ensnared by the same attachments and worldly bonds that bind the rest of humanity. He suggests that just as coarse flour is ground down into a fine, refined powder, the physical body and the ego must be refined through spiritual discipline to transform the mundane existence into something as pure and precious as gold.
