कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि साधक को ज्ञान रूपी विशाल हाथी पर सवार होना चाहिए और सहजता का गलीचा बिछाकर अपनी यात्रा करनी चाहिए। यह संसार एक कुत्ते के समान है जो व्यर्थ में भौंकता रहता है; ज्ञानी को उसकी आलोचनाओं और शोर की परवाह किए बिना अपने मार्ग पर अडिग रहना चाहिए।

Meaning: Kabir urges the seeker to mount the majestic elephant of true spiritual knowledge, cushioning the ride with the carpet of 'Sahaj' (natural spontaneity). He describes the world as a barking dog; the enlightened soul must remain indifferent to the noise of social criticism and worldly judgment, continuing their journey toward truth undisturbed.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि प्रत्येक परिस्थिति और व्यक्ति के लिए एक उचित व्यवहार या अनुकूल परिस्थिति होती है। माँगने वाले के लिए मीठी वाणी, चोर के लिए मौन, माली के लिए वर्षा और धोबी के लिए तेज धूप सबसे हितकारी और उपयुक्त होती है।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that there is an ideal state or behavior suited for every specific role and circumstance. For a seeker or beggar, polite speech is best; for a thief, silence is ideal; for a gardener, rain is the greatest blessing; and for a washerman, bright sunshine is the most beneficial.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार रेत के कण आँखों में चुभते हैं या तेज धूप शरीर को जलाती है, वैसे ही शब्दों का अनावश्यक प्रयोग अक्सर विवाद और पीड़ा पैदा करता है। संसार में मौन से अधिक मधुर और शांतिदायक कोई अन्य औषधि या अनुभव नहीं है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that just as grains of sand irritate the eyes or the scorching sun burns the skin, the unnecessary utterance of words often breeds conflict and pain. In the entirety of existence, there is no nectar sweeter or more healing than the practice of conscious silence.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वसंत ऋतु के आगमन पर वृक्ष एक याचक (मांगने वाले) की तरह हो जाता है, लेकिन वह खुशी-खुशी अपने पुराने पत्तों का त्याग कर देता है। इस त्याग के परिणामस्वरूप ही नए कोमल पत्ते जन्म लेते हैं। यदि वृक्ष पुराने पत्तों के मोह में उन्हें पकड़े रखे, तो नए पत्तों का आगमन कभी नहीं होगा और वह विकास के द्वार से वंचित रह जाएगा।

Meaning: Kabir observes that with the arrival of spring, the tree becomes like a seeker or a beggar, joyfully shedding its old leaves. Through this act of letting go, new tender foliage is born. If the tree were to cling to its old leaves out of attachment, the new growth would never emerge, and it would remain shut away from the door of renewal.

अर्थ: हे पागल मनुष्य, अत्यधिक हठ या अहंकारपूर्ण जिद मत कर, क्योंकि जिद से किसी समस्या का समाधान नहीं होता। जिस प्रकार एक छोटा सा कपड़ा (कामरी) जैसे-जैसे पानी में भीगता जाता है, वह उतना ही भारी और बोझिल होता जाता है, वैसे ही अहंकार और जिद मनुष्य के आध्यात्मिक मार्ग को कठिन बना देते हैं।

Meaning: O foolish soul, do not cling to stubbornness or rigid ego, for truth is never attained through force. Just as a small piece of cloth becomes increasingly heavy and cumbersome as it absorbs more water, so does the heart become burdened and stagnant when it clings to the rigidity of 'I am right'.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि मनुष्य को संसार के भौतिक सुखों, जैसे खाने, पकाने और धन के विलास में डूबे रहने के बजाय अपने वास्तविक आध्यात्मिक लक्ष्य को प्राप्त कर लेना चाहिए। जीवन की यह सांसारिक ऊर्जा और समय तेजी से बीत रहे हैं, और अंत समय में केवल आपकी आत्मा और आपके कर्म साथ जाएंगे, आपकी भौतिक संपत्ति या बाहरी आडंबर नहीं।

Meaning: Kabir urges the seeker to prioritize spiritual liberation over the endless cycle of material consumption and domestic indulgence. He warns that the vital energy of life is fleeting; while one may spend years in the pursuit of luxury and sensory pleasure, only the realized soul transcends the grave, as material possessions and superficial rituals cannot accompany the spirit in its final journey.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि आपको आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान या सत्य की प्राप्ति करनी है, तो उसे स्वयं के अनुभव से तुरंत प्राप्त करें। दूसरों से सुनी-सुनाई बातों या परंपराओं पर भरोसा न करें, क्योंकि ये सुनी-सुनाई बातें युगों से चली आ रही हैं और मनुष्य को जन्म और मृत्यु के अंतहीन चक्र में बांधे रखती हैं।

He questions the futility of exhausting one's life in the study of millions of scholarly texts, for intellectual accumulation of knowledge does not lead to spiritual liberation.

The core tragedy lies in the human inability to recognize the supreme spiritual opportunity of life, spending one's entire existence merely in the pursuit of satiating physical hunger and material needs.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य तीन प्रकार के दुखों (दैहिक, दैविक और आध्यात्मिक) से घिरा हुआ है, जिनके निवारण के लिए संसार में अनगिनत उपाय बताए गए हैं। परंतु, आत्मा का सबसे गहरा ताप—अज्ञान और अहंकार—इतना शक्तिशाली है कि वह केवल एक सच्चे संत या आत्म-साक्षात्कार के बिना समाप्त नहीं हो सकता।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that humanity is besieged by three types of suffering—physical, celestial, and spiritual—for which countless worldly remedies are sought.
