कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: जिस प्रकार सूर्य के उदय होते ही अंधकार स्वतः समाप्त हो जाता है, उसी प्रकार गुरु के वास्तविक ज्ञान से अज्ञान और कुमति का नाश होता है। परंतु, जब मनुष्य अत्यधिक लोभ में डूब जाता है, तो उसकी सद्बुद्धि नष्ट हो जाती है, और जब अहंकार का जन्म होता है, तो सच्ची भक्ति का मार्ग पूरी तरह अवरुद्ध हो जाता है।

Meaning: Just as darkness vanishes the moment the sun rises, the ignorance of a clouded mind is dispelled by the illuminating wisdom of a true Guru. However, the poet warns that right understanding is eroded by excessive greed, and the essence of true devotion is completely destroyed by the presence of ego and pride.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि सच्ची भक्ति और बाहरी दिखावे (भेष) के बीच बहुत बड़ा अंतर होता है, ठीक वैसा ही अंतर जैसा पृथ्वी और आकाश के बीच है। एक वास्तविक भक्त पूरी तरह से अपने गुरु के चरणों में समर्पित होकर अहंकार शून्य हो जाता है, जबकि दिखावा करने वाला व्यक्ति केवल सांसारिक प्रशंसा और दुनिया की उम्मीदों के लिए धार्मिक वेश धारण करता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that there is a profound chasm between genuine devotion and outward religious appearance, as vast as the distance between the earth and the sky. A true devotee is completely absorbed in the guidance of the Guru, dissolving the ego, whereas one who merely adopts a spiritual guise does so only to seek validation and expectations from the worldly society.

अर्थ: जब तक मनुष्य अपनी जाति, कुल और सामाजिक पहचान के अहंकार से जुड़ा रहता है, तब तक वह सच्ची भक्ति प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता। जब वह गुरु के मार्गदर्शन में इन सांसारिक और कृत्रिम बंधनों को तोड़ देता है, तभी वास्तविक भक्ति का उदय होता है।

Meaning: As long as a person remains tethered to the ego of caste, lineage, and social identity, true devotion remains unattainable. Only when these artificial worldly bonds are severed through the guidance of a Guru does genuine spiritual devotion manifest.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि बिना निस्वार्थ प्रेम के की जाने वाली भक्ति वास्तव में भक्ति नहीं, बल्कि अहंकार और पाखंड है। जो व्यक्ति केवल भौतिक लाभ या पेट भरने के लिए धर्म का सहारा लेता है, वह अपने जीवन के वास्तविक आध्यात्मिक उद्देश्य और सार को व्यर्थ गंवा देता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that any devotion devoid of selfless love is not true spirituality, but rather a manifestation of ego and hypocrisy. Those who employ religion merely as a tool for material gain or survival squander the essential spiritual purpose and the true essence of their human birth.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि इस संसार में बिना सच्चे भाव या आंतरिक प्रेम के भक्ति संभव नहीं है, और बिना भक्ति के वह गहरा भाव उत्पन्न नहीं हो सकता। वास्तव में, भक्ति और भाव एक ही सिक्के के दो पहलू हैं; वे स्वरूप में भिन्न दिख सकते हैं, लेकिन उनका मूल स्वभाव और उद्देश्य एक ही है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that in this world, devotion (Bhakti) is impossible without genuine emotion or inner longing (Bhav), and conversely, such profound longing cannot exist without the seed of devotion. In essence, Bhakti and Bhav are a single entity in two forms; though they appear distinct, their fundamental nature and essence are identical.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब मनुष्य अपनी जाति, वर्ण और कुल के अहंकार को पूरी तरह त्याग देता है और अपने चित्त को एकाग्र कर निस्वार्थ भक्ति करता है, तब उसे सच्चे सद्गुरु की प्राप्ति होती है। इस आध्यात्मिक जागृति के माध्यम से वह जन्म और मृत्यु के अंतहीन चक्र (आवागमन) से मुक्ति पा लेता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that when a seeker completely renounces the ego associated with caste, color, and lineage, and engages in devotion with a focused and surrendered heart, they encounter the True Guru. Through this divine guidance, the cycle of birth and death—the endless transmigration of the soul—is finally extinguished.

अर्थ: इंद्रियों के विषयों और सांसारिक मोह का त्याग करना वैराग्य है, जबकि सभी परिस्थितियों और व्यक्तियों के प्रति तटस्थ रहना ही वास्तविक ज्ञान है। जब मनुष्य समस्त जीवों के प्रति प्रेम और सुख की कामना करता है, वही भक्ति की सर्वोच्च और अंतिम कसौटी है।

Meaning: Renunciation consists in letting go of sensory attachments and worldly cravings, while true knowledge is found in equanimity. The ultimate testament of devotion is the cultivation of a heart that seeks the well-being and happiness of every living being without exception.

अर्थ: सच्ची भक्ति का आध्यात्मिक धन केवल तभी प्राप्त होता है जब एक समर्थ गुरु का मार्गदर्शन और सहयोग मिले। वह प्रेम और गहन अनुराग की भक्ति, जो आत्मा को परमात्मा से जोड़ती है, केवल उन्हीं को प्राप्त होती है जिनके भाग्य में पूर्णता और गुरु की कृपा अंकित होती है।

Meaning: The spiritual treasure of true devotion is attained only when one is supported by the guidance of a realized Guru. That specific form of devotion rooted in selfless love and intense longing is a rare gift, granted to those whose spiritual destiny is aligned through the grace of a master.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि संसार के सभी कार्य वास्तव में बंधनकारी कर्म हैं, लेकिन भक्ति ऐसा कर्म है जो व्यक्ति को कर्मों के बंधन से मुक्त कर देता है। वे पुकार कर कह रहे हैं कि सभी भ्रमों और संदेहों को त्याग कर केवल सच्ची भक्ति में लीन हो जाओ।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that all worldly actions are binding karmas, but the act of devotion (Bhakti) is a 'non-action' that liberates one from the cycle of cause and effect. He urgently calls upon the seeker to abandon all delusions and doubts to embrace pure, unwavering devotion.

अर्थ: भक्ति का महल अत्यंत ऊंचा और भव्य है, जो दूर से ही अपनी दिव्यता का आभास कराता है। जो व्यक्ति सच्चे हृदय से इस भक्ति मार्ग पर चलता है और ईश्वर के प्रति समर्पित होता है, उसके जीवन में जो आध्यात्मिक सौंदर्य और आंतरिक शांति आती है, उसका वर्णन शब्दों में करना असंभव है।

Meaning: The palace of devotion is immensely high and grand, visible and radiating its divine presence even from a distance. Whoever genuinely engages in this path of devotion and surrenders to the Divine attains an inner radiance and spiritual grace that transcends all linguistic descriptions and human expression.
