कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: जिस दिशा में जीवन की शुरुआत होती है या जिस भाव से कर्म किए जाते हैं, अंत भी उसी के अनुरूप होता है। जिस प्रकार छोटी-छोटी कौड़ियों को जोड़कर करोड़ों का बड़ा कोष बनाया जा सकता है, उसी प्रकार निरंतर छोटे-छोटे आध्यात्मिक प्रयास अंततः महान सिद्धि और पूर्णता की ओर ले जाते हैं।

Meaning: The manner in which one begins their journey or the intention behind their actions determines the nature of their conclusion. Just as accumulating tiny cowrie shells one by one can eventually build a fortune of millions, consistent, small spiritual efforts lead to the ultimate attainment of liberation and divine realization.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस घर में क्रोध, अहंकार और ईर्ष्या रूपी सर्प का वास होता है, वहाँ सद्गुरु या वास्तविक आध्यात्मिक शांति कभी नहीं ठहरती। जिस प्रकार एक जहरीला सांप घर की सारी सुख-समृद्धि को नष्ट कर देता है, उसी प्रकार मानसिक विकार मनुष्य के जीवन की समस्त आध्यात्मिक और मानसिक संपदा को समाप्त कर देते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a home inhabited by the 'serpent' of anger, ego, and jealousy can never host a true saint or the presence of divine peace. Just as a venomous snake consumes the prosperity and safety of a household, these toxic mental impurities devour the spiritual wealth and inner tranquility of an individual, leaving behind only void and suffering.

अर्थ: जो व्यक्ति राम-रस (ईश्वरीय प्रेम और आनंद) के सूक्ष्म प्रवाह को नहीं पहचानता, उसका आध्यात्मिक जीवन उस वृक्ष की तरह है जो कभी विकसित नहीं हुआ। जिस व्यक्ति ने आंतरिक अनुभव और प्रेम के भाव को महसूस नहीं किया, वह न तो वास्तविक सुख को जानता है और न ही दुख को, क्योंकि वह चेतना के शून्य स्तर पर है।

Meaning: Those who fail to perceive the subtle essence of Divine Love (Ram Ras) are like trees that never bloomed. A person who has not experienced the internal flow of spiritual emotion remains trapped in a state of spiritual numbness, where they cannot truly grasp the depth of either joy or sorrow, existing in a void of ignorance.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि तुम वास्तव में उस जगजीवन (परमात्मा) को जान लो, तो तुम स्वयं के वास्तविक स्वरूप यानी 'जीव' को जान जाओगे। तब तुम अपनी प्यास स्वयं ही बुझा लोगे और तुम्हें बाहरी दुनिया से पानी मांगने की आवश्यकता नहीं पड़ेगी।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that if you truly realize the Life-Sustainer of the universe, you will simultaneously realize your own true essence as a living soul. In that state of enlightenment, you will quench your own spiritual thirst from within, rendering the act of begging for water from external sources unnecessary.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि तुम वास्तव में अपने स्वयं के जीवन और आत्मा के स्वरूप को पहचान लो, तो तुम इस जीवन का वास्तविक सार और उद्देश्य प्राप्त कर लोगे। यह आत्मा एक ऐसे अतिथि की तरह है जो एक बार आता है और यदि इस अवसर को खो दिया, तो यह दोबारा प्राप्त नहीं होगा।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that if one truly recognizes the nature of their own soul and existence, they will uncover the ultimate essence and purpose of life. The soul is likened to a rare guest who visits only once; if this singular opportunity for realization is squandered, it shall not return a second time.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि तुम वास्तव में एक सच्चे व्यापारी बनना चाहते हो, तो तुम्हें सत्य के बाजार में व्यापार करना चाहिए। लेकिन इस बाहरी व्यापार से पहले, अपने अंतर्मन की सफाई करना आवश्यक है; अपने हृदय के भीतर जमी गंदगी और अहंकार को झाड़ू लगाकर बाहर निकाल फेंको।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that if you truly wish to be an honest merchant, you must engage in the marketplace of Truth. However, before venturing into this external trade, it is imperative to cleanse your inner being; use the broom of awareness to sweep away the accumulated filth and ego from within your heart.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिसे सच्चा ज्ञान प्राप्त हुआ, उसे गुरु मिल गया, लेकिन एक सच्चा शिष्य मिलना अत्यंत दुर्लभ है। लाखों लोगों में से शायद कुछ हजार ही ऐसे होते हैं जो वास्तव में आध्यात्मिक मार्ग पर चलने के योग्य होते हैं, और उनमें से भी केवल एक ही आत्मा वास्तव में जागृत होकर सत्य को आत्मसात कर पाती है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that whoever attains true knowledge has found the Guru, yet finding a genuine disciple is an exceedingly rare occurrence. Among millions, perhaps only a few thousand possess the spiritual temperament for the path, and among those, only a solitary soul truly awakens to embody the ultimate truth.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान एक ऐसे रत्नों से भरे कमरे के समान है जिसका ताला चुंबक से बना है। केवल वही व्यक्ति इस खजाने को खोल सकता है जो वास्तव में पारखी हो और जिसके पास 'रसाल वचन' यानी प्रेम और सत्य से भरे शब्दों की कुंजी हो।

Meaning: Kabir describes spiritual knowledge as a treasure chamber filled with jewels, secured by a magnetic lock. Only a true connoisseur of truth, possessing the 'rasal bachan'—words saturated with divine love and sweetness—can unlock this vault and access the ultimate reality.

अर्थ: जैसे दर्पण में अपना प्रतिबिंब देखकर व्यक्ति यह समझता है कि वह और उसकी छवि दो अलग चीजें हैं, जबकि वास्तव में दोनों एक ही तत्व हैं। इसी प्रकार, आत्मा और परमात्मा अलग नहीं हैं; जो तत्व दृष्टा में है, वही दृश्य में है, और सब कुछ उसी एक अनंत चेतना में समाहित है।

Meaning: Just as one looks into a mirror and perceives a reflection, mistakenly believing there are two separate entities, in reality, both are the same. Similarly, the individual soul and the Divine are not distinct; the essence within the observer is the same essence within the observed, all existing within a single, unified consciousness.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार श्मशान में पड़ी सभी लाशें अंततः एक समान हो जाती हैं, वैसे ही मनुष्य का बाहरी स्वरूप और अहंकार मृत्यु के सामने शून्य हो जाता है। जब व्यक्ति जीवन की वास्तविक गति और समय के प्रवाह को समझता है, तब उसका अहंकार स्वतः झुक जाता है और वह विनम्रता को अपनाता है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that just as all corpses lying in the cremation ground eventually become identical, the external forms and egos of humans are rendered equal in the face of death. When one perceives the true velocity of time and the inevitability of the end, the pride of the ego naturally collapses, leading to a state of profound humility.
