कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि आत्मा का प्रारब्ध और उसके कर्मों का लेखा-जोखा शरीर के जन्म लेने से बहुत पहले ही निर्धारित हो चुका था। आश्चर्य की बात यह है कि सब कुछ पूर्व-निश्चित होने के बावजूद, मनुष्य का मन कभी स्थिर नहीं होता और वह निरंतर व्याकुलता और बेचैनी में डूबा रहता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that one's destiny (Prarabdha) and the karmic blueprint were fashioned long before the physical body ever manifested. The great paradox, he observes, is that despite this cosmic pre-determination, the human mind remains incapable of finding stillness, perpetually oscillating in restlessness and anxiety.

अर्थ: हे मन, अपने भाग्य के वास्तविक स्वरूप को भूलकर भ्रम में मत पड़। जो प्रारब्ध या आध्यात्मिक नियति तेरे जीवन में आई है, वह टलने वाली नहीं है। अतः संदेह और दुविधा को त्याग कर उस परम सत्य को स्वीकार कर और निश्चिंत हो जा।

Meaning: O mind, do not forget the true nature of your destiny or wander in delusion. That which has arrived as your karmic allotment or spiritual fate cannot be avoided or erased. Therefore, abandon all doubts and uncertainties, and embrace the certainty of the Divine will.

अर्थ: इस दोहे में कबीर कहते हैं कि प्रारब्ध या कर्मों के लेख को पूरी तरह मिटाया नहीं जा सकता, लेकिन गुरु के मार्गदर्शन में ईश्वर के नाम का जाप करने से उनके प्रभाव को सहने की शक्ति मिलती है। यदि व्यक्ति सत्य के सीधे मार्ग पर चले और दया तथा धर्म को अपने जीवन का आधार बनाए, तो वह मानसिक शांति और मोक्ष प्राप्त कर सकता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the inscriptions of one's destiny or past karmas cannot be simply erased. However, by chanting the Divine Name under a Guru's guidance, one can transcend their suffering. By consistently walking the straight path of truth and anchoring one's life in compassion and righteousness, a seeker attains ultimate peace and liberation.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि एक तीतर पक्षी चंदन की लकड़ी पर जलती आग में बैठा है, जिसे वह शीतलता समझ रहा है। कबीर स्वयं को बिना पंखों के भी आध्यात्मिक अग्नि में जलते हुए पाते हैं, जबकि वे दूसरों से पूछते हैं कि वे (जो बाहरी आडंबरों में लिपटे हैं) किस भ्रम में जल रहे हैं।

Meaning: Kabir describes a partridge perched upon burning sandalwood, mistakenly perceiving the fire as coolness. He observes that while he burns in the fire of divine longing even without the 'wings' of ritual or status, he questions those who are consumed by the fires of ego and illusion while believing they are safe.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि चाहे कोई व्यक्ति स्वर्ग की ऊँचाइयों या पाताल की गहराइयों की यात्रा करे, या पूरे ब्रह्मांड को चीरकर पार कर जाए, लेकिन जब तक वह इस भौतिक शरीर और अहंकार के बंधन में बंधा है, उसे अपने कर्मों का दंड और जन्म-मृत्यु के चक्र का कष्ट भोगना ही पड़ेगा।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that whether one travels to the highest heavens or the deepest underworlds, or even shatters the boundaries of the entire universe, the inevitable penalty of existence remains. As long as one clings to the physical body and the egoic identity, the karmic consequences and the cycle of suffering cannot be evaded.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य का मन जहाँ भी कदम रखता है, समय और नियति उसके साथ चलते हैं। जो हमारे भाग्य में पूर्व-निर्धारित है, वह अटल है और उसे किसी भी मानवीय प्रयास या अहंकार से बदला नहीं जा सकता; वह घटित होकर ही रहता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that wherever the human soul steps, time and destiny accompany it. Whatever is written in one's destiny is immutable and cannot be altered by human effort or ego; it is an inevitable truth that will manifest regardless of resistance.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि बाहरी दुनिया में हमें मिलने वाले सुख और दुख वास्तव में हमारे अपने मन के आदेशों का परिणाम होते हैं। जब मन में कोई विचार या इच्छा जागृत होती है, तो वह बाहरी परिस्थितियों के रूप में हमारे सामने प्रकट होती है और हमें प्रभावित करती है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the joys and sorrows we experience in the external world are actually the manifestations of the commands issued by our own mind. When a specific mental state or desire arises within, it projects itself outward, shaping our external reality and emotional response.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि बिना किसी प्रयास या उचित उपाय के ईश्वर कभी कुछ प्रदान नहीं करते। जिस प्रकार एक किसान यदि अपने खेत में बीज नहीं बोता, तो वह फसल की उम्मीद नहीं कर सकता, उसी प्रकार बिना कर्म के आध्यात्मिक या भौतिक फल की प्राप्ति असंभव है। यह दोहा निष्क्रियता का खंडन करता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the Divine never grants rewards to those who remain passive and devoid of effort. Just as a farmer cannot expect a harvest without first sowing seeds in the field, one cannot attain spiritual or material fruition without conscious action. It is a stern critique of blind faith devoid of personal striving.

अर्थ: जो व्यक्ति निरंतर बुरे कार्य करता है और फिर भी सुख की कामना करता है, वह भ्रम में है। जिस प्रकार बबूल के कांटेदार पेड़ को लगाकर कोई आम के मीठे फलों की उम्मीद नहीं कर सकता, उसी प्रकार अधर्म और नकारात्मकता के बीज बोकर आनंद की फसल नहीं काटी जा सकती।

Meaning: One who persists in performing evil deeds yet desires happiness is living in a delusion. Just as planting a thorny acacia tree cannot possibly yield the sweet fruits of a mango, sowing seeds of malice and negativity cannot result in the harvest of true peace and joy.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि मनुष्य पत्थर लेकर मंदिर बनाता है और उसमें एक विशाल मूर्ति स्थापित करता है। यदि वह पत्थर की मूर्ति टूट जाए, तो भी वह पत्थर का ही एक निर्जीव टुकड़ा रहता है। ऐसे में, वह निर्जीव पत्थर किसी का उद्धार कैसे कर सकता है जो स्वयं जड़ है?

Meaning: Kabir questions the futility of idol worship, noting that humans carve temples and install massive stone idols. He argues that if the stone idol breaks, it remains merely a piece of lifeless rock. Therefore, he asks how a lifeless, inert object can possibly lead a sentient soul toward spiritual liberation.
