कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार जल की धारा सबको बहाकर गहरे समुद्र में ले जाती है, उसी प्रकार यह संसार मायावी है। परंतु, 'सुरति' (चेतना या ध्यान) उस सूक्ष्म मछली के समान है जो धारा के विपरीत चलकर ऊपर की ओर, यानी परमात्मा की ओर गमन करती है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that while the current of worldly existence sweeps all beings downward into the depths of ignorance and oblivion, the 'Surati' (the subtle conscious awareness) acts like a rare, microscopic fish that possesses the strength to swim against the tide, ascending back to its divine source.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यह पूरी पृथ्वी एक खेत के समान है और हर मनुष्य एक किसान है जो अपने जीवन के कर्मों की खेती कर रहा है। परंतु, मोह रूपी हिरण ने सारी फसल चर ली है, और अंत में केवल खाली खलिहान ही शेष रह गया है।

Meaning: Kabir posits that the entire earth is a vast field where every human being acts as a farmer, sowing the seeds of their actions. However, the deer of attachment (Moh) has grazed away the entire harvest, leaving the threshing floor empty and the soul devoid of spiritual fruit.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि अत्यधिक मोह और आसक्ति के कारण राजा भरत को दो जन्म लेने पड़े। वे प्रश्न करते हैं कि उन मनुष्यों का उद्धार कैसे संभव है, जो सांसारिक रिश्तों और भौतिक वस्तुओं के प्रति गहरे मोह और प्रेम में बंधे हुए हैं।

Meaning: Kabir explains that due to intense attachment and delusion, King Bharat was forced to embody two physical forms across two lives. He questions how those humans can ever achieve liberation when they are tightly bound by excessive worldly affection and emotional clinging.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जो व्यक्ति क्रोध और लालच के अधीन है, वह सच्ची भक्ति प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता। वास्तविक भक्ति केवल वही 'सूरमा' या आध्यात्मिक योद्धा कर सकता है, जिसने अपनी जाति, वर्ण और कुल के अहंकार को पूरी तरह त्याग दिया हो।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that those enslaved by anger and greed are incapable of true devotion. Genuine spiritual practice is reserved for the 'spiritual warrior'—one who possesses the courage to completely relinquish the false identities of caste, color, and lineage.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार दीपक को जलने के लिए तेल की आवश्यकता होती है और वह तेल के साथ गहराई से जुड़ा होता है, उसी प्रकार एक संत का हृदय आंतरिक ज्ञान और परमात्मा के प्रेम में डूबा रहता है। जैसे हीरा अपनी आंतरिक चमक के कारण स्वाभाविक रूप से प्रकाशित होता है, वैसे ही एक आत्म-साक्षात्कारी व्यक्ति बिना किसी बाहरी प्रयास के सदैव दिव्य प्रकाश में रहता है।

Meaning: Kabir explains that just as a lamp requires oil to burn and remains intrinsically linked to its fuel, a saint's heart is deeply immersed in inner wisdom and divine love. Like a diamond that radiates light naturally due to its inherent purity, a self-realized soul remains eternally illuminated by the divine light without needing external effort or artificial aids.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब तक मनुष्य के हृदय में क्रोध, अहंकार और लोभ जैसे विकार मौजूद रहते हैं, तब तक एक अनपढ़ मूर्ख और एक महान विद्वान में कोई अंतर नहीं रह जाता। दोनों ही आध्यात्मिक रूप से अंधे और समान रूप से बंधन में बंधे होते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that as long as the poisons of anger, arrogance, and greed reside within the heart, there is no meaningful distinction between an ignorant fool and a learned scholar. Both remain spiritually blind and equally shackled by their internal impurities.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि स्त्री और पुरुष दोनों की आंतरिक प्रकृति और आत्मा का स्वरूप एक समान है। जो अज्ञानी व्यक्ति इस सत्य को नहीं पहचानता और बाहरी भेदों में उलझा रहता है, वह केवल मानसिक उथल-पुथल और व्यर्थ के विवादों को ही जन्म देता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the inner essence and the spiritual nature of both men and women are identical. Those who remain ignorant of this fundamental truth and cling to external distinctions only create mental turmoil and engage in futile, disruptive conflicts.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब आत्मा परमात्मा के प्रेम में लीन हो जाती है, तो उसे सांसारिक शर्म या लोक-लाज का कोई भय नहीं रहता। वह एक ऐसे परमानंद में होती है जहाँ नींद की आवश्यकता नहीं रहती और भूख केवल आध्यात्मिक तृप्ति के लिए होती है, स्वाद के लिए नहीं।

Meaning: Kabir declares that when the soul is immersed in the divine love of the Formless, it transcends the boundaries of social shame and worldly inhibitions. It enters a state of ecstatic bliss where the biological need for sleep vanishes and hunger no longer seeks sensory taste, but only spiritual sustenance.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मैं बार-बार सत्य का मार्ग समझा रहा हूँ, लेकिन अज्ञानी व्यक्ति उसे सुनने या मानने को तैयार नहीं है। जो वास्तव में वैरागी है, वह सांसारिक मोह-माया के बंधनों से मुक्त है, जबकि कामना और वासनाओं में डूबा व्यक्ति कभी भी इस संसार रूपी सागर से पार नहीं पा सकता।

Meaning: Kabir expresses his frustration that despite repeated attempts to convey the ultimate truth, the ignorant soul refuses to listen. He asserts that a true ascetic is one who has severed the knots of worldly attachment, whereas one enslaved by desire and lust can never cross the turbulent ocean of existence to reach liberation.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि एक कुत्ता महीने में केवल तीस दिनों के लिए उत्तेजित या विचलित होता है, और फिर शांत हो जाता है। लेकिन जो मनुष्य काम वासना और इच्छाओं का गुलाम है, वह साल के बारह महीने और छह ऋतुओं तक निरंतर उसी मानसिक बेचैनी और वासना में डूबा रहता है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that a dog is driven by primal urges for only a limited period, after which it finds peace. In contrast, a human consumed by lust and worldly desires remains in a state of perpetual agitation across all twelve months and six seasons, never finding true stillness.
