कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब तक संसार माया और सांसारिक प्रपंचों (गुपाल की चाल) के प्रभाव में था, तब तक पूरी दुनिया अज्ञानता के चक्की में पिस रही थी। लेकिन जब कबीर का सत्य का शब्द (ज्ञान) गूंजा, तो अज्ञानता का वह पर्दा फट गया और सत्य का मार्ग खुल गया।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that while the world was driven by the illusions of worldly desires and the deceptive play of the material world, humanity remained crushed in the mill of ignorance. However, when the resonant word of Kabir's truth arrived, it tore through the veil of delusion, unveiling the path to ultimate liberation.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि हर व्यक्ति 'काल' यानी समय या मृत्यु की बात करता है, लेकिन वास्तव में काल के वास्तविक स्वरूप को कोई नहीं पहचानता। जिसे हम काल या समय का भय मानते हैं, वह वास्तव में हमारे मन की अपनी कल्पना और मानसिक धारणाओं का एक विस्तार मात्र है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that while everyone speaks of 'Kaal'—referring to time or death—no one truly recognizes its essence. That which we perceive as the relentless march of time or the dread of death is, in reality, nothing more than a projection of the mind's own imagination and conceptual constructs.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य संसार में अहंकार और बाहरी आडंबरों के साथ घूमता रहता है, जैसे किसी ने हाथ में धनुष-कमान ले रखा हो और सिर पर गर्व का बोझ हो। वे समझाते हैं कि इस व्यर्थ के अहंकार को त्यागकर केवल उस निराकार परमात्मा के नाम का आश्रय लेना ही वास्तविक शांति का मार्ग है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that humans wander through existence burdened by ego and outward displays of power, akin to carrying a bow and arrow while wearing a crown of pride. He urges the seeker to abandon all forms of arrogance and instead embrace the divine Name, for only in surrender to the Formless does true liberation reside.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जो व्यक्ति सुख-सुविधाओं और सांसारिक मोह-माया के फूलों की सेज पर सो रहा था, वह अब कहीं दिखाई नहीं देता। वह क्षण भर में ओझल हो गया, क्योंकि भौतिक सुख और शारीरिक अस्तित्व दोनों ही क्षणभंगुर हैं और अंततः शून्य में विलीन हो जाते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir observes that the one who slept peacefully by the window, resting upon a bed of fragrant flowers, has now vanished. In a mere instant, that existence disappeared, illustrating that both worldly luxuries and the physical self are ephemeral, eventually dissolving into the void of nothingness.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य का जीवन क्षणभंगुर है और समय निरंतर बीत रहा है। जब तक व्यक्ति सांसारिक उलझनों और मोह-माया के जाल में फंसा रहता है, तब तक वह वास्तविक सत्य से दूर रहता है। अंततः मृत्यु का नगाड़ा (दमामा) बजता है और सब कुछ समाप्त हो जाता है, जिससे यह स्पष्ट होता है कि केवल आत्म-साक्षात्कार ही स्थायी है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that human existence is fleeting and time slips away moment by moment. As long as an individual remains entangled in the chaotic webs of worldly attachments and illusory desires, they remain estranged from the ultimate truth. Eventually, the drum of death sounds, signaling the end of the physical journey, proving that only the realization of the Eternal Self is enduring.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यह जीव माया और सांसारिक मोह के जाल में पूरी तरह फंसा हुआ है। उन्होंने इसे जगाने और सत्य समझाने का बहुत प्रयास किया, लेकिन जीव अपनी अज्ञानता में इतना अंधा है कि वह सत्य को स्वीकार करने को तैयार नहीं है। अंततः कबीर की विवशता प्रकट होती है कि जब व्यक्ति स्वयं जागना न चाहे, तो गुरु की वाणी भी निष्फल हो जाती है।

Meaning: Kabir laments that the individual soul is utterly consumed by the illusions of the material world. Despite his repeated efforts to awaken the soul and explain the ultimate truth, the soul remains blinded by ignorance. Kabir expresses a profound sense of helplessness, noting that when a seeker refuses to believe or awaken, even the most potent spiritual guidance remains ineffective.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य सांसारिक और क्षणभंगुर सुखों को ही वास्तविक सुख मानकर उसमें आनंदित रहता है। परंतु यह संपूर्ण संसार काल (मृत्यु) के मुख में जाने वाले एक निवाले के समान है; जीवन का कुछ हिस्सा व्यतीत हो चुका है और कुछ अभी शेष है, लेकिन अंत निश्चित है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that humans mistake transient, worldly pleasures for true happiness, finding joy in illusions. He asserts that the entire world is merely a morsel of food for Time (Death); a portion of our existence has already been consumed, and while some remains, the inevitable end is certain for all.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि चारों दिशाओं में योद्धा खड़े हैं और उनके हाथों में शस्त्र सजे हैं। वे सब इस भौतिक शरीर को देख रहे हैं और उसकी रक्षा का ढोंग कर रहे हैं, लेकिन अंततः समय (मृत्यु) आता है और इस नश्वर शरीर को छीन ले जाता है, जिससे सारे शस्त्र और अहंकार व्यर्थ हो जाते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir observes that warriors stand in all directions, armed with weapons, guarding the physical body. While they focus on the external defense of the flesh, the inevitable force of Time (Death) arrives and strikes, rendering all weapons and worldly pride utterly useless as the body perishes.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यह मानव शरीर एक मजबूत किले के समान है, जिसके बीच में आत्मा रूपी मंदिर स्थित है। इस किले की हर खिड़की पर पहरेदार तैनात हैं और मुख्य द्वार हाथियों द्वारा सुरक्षित है, जो यह दर्शाता है कि परमात्मा तक पहुँचने का मार्ग इंद्रियों और अहंकार के कड़े पहरे से घिरा हुआ है।

Meaning: Kabir describes the human body as a fortified castle, with the temple of the soul residing in its center. Every window is guarded by sentinels, and the main gateway is blocked by elephants, symbolizing how the path to the Divine is heavily guarded by the senses, ego, and worldly attachments.

अर्थ: मनुष्य इस भ्रम में रहता है कि वह जीवन भर भौतिक सुखों और धन-संपदा का उपभोग करता रहेगा। वह संचय में इतना लीन हो जाता है कि उसे अपनी नश्वरता का आभास नहीं होता। अंततः, मृत्यु उसे उसी अवस्था में ले जाती है जहाँ वह भौतिक रूप से तो समृद्ध था, परंतु आध्यात्मिक रूप से रिक्त था।

Meaning: Man lives under the delusion that he will eternally consume material pleasures and accumulate vast wealth. He becomes so absorbed in gathering possessions that he forgets his own mortality. Ultimately, Death seizes him exactly as he was—materially affluent perhaps, but spiritually empty and devoid of realization.
