Meaning: Kabir prays to the Divine for only as much sustenance as is necessary to support his family. His plea is for a balanced life where his own basic needs are met, and he possesses enough surplus to ensure that no seeker or needy soul who visits his door departs hungry.

Meaning: Kabir addresses the restless mind, reminding it that everything in existence unfolds in its own natural time. Just as a gardener may pour a hundred pots of water onto a plant, the fruit will only appear when the appropriate season arrives. Patience is the essential catalyst for spiritual and material fruition.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that while the physical body perishes and decomposes repeatedly through cycles of birth and death, the underlying illusions of Maya and the cravings of the mind remain untouched. The insatiable nature of human desire and longing persists beyond the grave, trapping the soul in an endless loop of reincarnation.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the act of begging or pleading for sustenance and favors is equivalent to spiritual death. He advises against seeking alms or handouts, suggesting that physical death is preferable to the erosion of one's soul and dignity through dependency. This teaching from the Satguru emphasizes that true liberation comes from relying on inner strength and Divine Grace rather than the fickle mercy of other humans.

Meaning: Kabir asks the human soul about the true purpose of its earthly incarnation, noting that the individual remains slumbering under the blanket of ignorance. He urgently calls upon the heedless soul to awaken its consciousness and recognize its true divine identity before the window of opportunity closes forever.

Meaning: Kabir suggests that a true seeker or saint should emulate the nature of a winnowing basket (soop). Just as the basket retains the precious grain while allowing the useless chaff to be blown away by the wind, a wise person must discern the eternal truth from the ephemeral, absorbing the essence of spirituality while discarding the vanity, illusions, and superficial rituals of the world.

Meaning: As long as the 'I' (the ego) existed within me, the true Guru was absent. Now that the Guru's grace and wisdom have dawned, the ego has vanished. The alley of divine love is so narrow that it cannot accommodate two entities—the ego and the Divine; for one to enter, the other must inevitably depart.

Meaning: Kabir reminds us that the human body is transient and destined to perish. If you wish to achieve something lasting, anchor your existence in a meaningful purpose. He suggests that the only enduring path is the selfless service of the enlightened (Sadhus) and the contemplation of the divine attributes of the Formless Lord, as these spiritual merits are the only treasures that transcend the physical death.

Meaning: Before the Divine, only truth prevails, and only truth is pleasing to the Creator. Whether a person speaks the truth openly or suppresses it within, the fundamental reality of truth remains unchanged. Ultimately, only that which is authentic and honest stands before the Almighty; external pretenses or strategic silences hold no value.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the company of a true seeker or an enlightened soul is invaluable, even if it offers only the coarsest sustenance, like barley chaff. Conversely, one must avoid the company of those who lure with luxuries, such as sweet puddings and lavish feasts, for such associations nourish the ego and distract the soul from its divine purpose.
