Famous Kabir Dohe on Wake-up Call —

Meaning: Kabir observes that the masses are rushing to the fisherman's court to trade in the 'fish' of worldly desires. He addresses the soul, reminding it that its essence is as precious as a rare jewel, questioning why such a divine entity would choose to entangle itself in the trivial and deceptive nets of material illusion.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that if a person is born human but fails to awaken their spiritual consciousness and spends their life in ignorance, they are not truly human. Such a person is akin to a beast while still alive, having squandered the rare opportunity of human birth by remaining enslaved to material desires and primal instincts.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that humanity exists in a state of profound slumber, dreaming a dream of worldly existence. If one were to open their spiritual eyes, they would realize that the soul has been plundered by the illusions of Maya, leaving the seeker with nothing of eternal value at the end of the journey.

Meaning: Kabir observes that we spend our entire lives listening to spiritual discourses and talking about truth, yet the mind remains entangled in confusion. We have consumed knowledge intellectually but not experientially. Consequently, without actual awakening, today remains as ignorant as the first day of our existence; we have made no real progress in the journey of the soul.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the long, agonizing night of separation is nearing its end. He urges the seeker to remain steady and not succumb to despair, for time is relentless. Just as the passing of the night's watches inevitably leads to the dawn, the darkness of spiritual ignorance will soon be dispelled by the rising sun of divine realization.

Meaning: Kabir observes that the entire world is immersed in the slumber of ignorance, believing themselves happy while preoccupied with the primal urges of eating and sleeping. In stark contrast, Kabir describes himself as sorrowful, for he has awakened spiritually and weeps upon realizing the transient nature of existence and the soul's separation from the Divine.

Meaning: Kabir proclaims that when the lotus of consciousness blooms within the heart, the pure sun of spiritual knowledge rises. Consequently, the dark night of ignorance is obliterated, and the 'Anhad'—the unstruck celestial sound—begins to resonate within the soul, a divine music that requires no physical instrument to play.

Meaning: The water of divine grace and spiritual knowledge is omnipresent, flowing through every home and every atom of existence. The teacher or saint merely points the way, but the nectar is truly tasted only by those who possess an intense, burning thirst for truth. Without internal longing, external guidance remains ineffective.

Meaning: Kabir asks his spiritual companion why a person does not seek the 'death' of the ego while still alive. He critiques the irony where people perform rituals of truth and piety for the deceased, yet neglect to cultivate that same truth and spiritual liberation within themselves during their living years.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that those who have failed to attain true self-realization or spiritual gnosis have needlessly sacrificed the profound peace and 'sleep' of the soul. Driven by ignorance, they chased external illusions and ritualistic shadows, ultimately transforming their existence into a cycle of endless suffering and spiritual unrest.
