Famous Kabir Dohe on Karma —

Meaning: Time is absolute and immediate; therefore, one should never commit evil acts. Just as one cannot harvest a crop without first sowing a seed, the fruits of our life are the direct result of the actions we have planted.

Meaning: Kabir asks why one continued in error when they had the chance to stop, and why they grieve now that the consequences have arrived. He asserts that if one plants the seeds of a thorny acacia tree, it is an impossibility to expect the sweet fruit of a mango. Action and result are inextricably linked.

Meaning: Kabir advises that if someone sows thorns of bitterness, hatred, or pain in your life, you should respond by sowing flowers of love and compassion. For you, this path of love will blossom into peace and joy, but for the one steeped in malice, your selfless kindness will act like a trident, piercing and destroying their ego and negativity.

Meaning: Kabir asks why one resorts to such extreme violence or cruelty that it shatters another human being into pieces. He posits a spiritual law of causality: if you have spent your life planting a garden of poison—filled with hatred, malice, and ego—why do you now lament and grieve when you are forced to harvest the bitter fruits of those very seeds?

Meaning: The individual who is immersed in outward displays and ritualistic piety wanders with a bloated sense of pride, claiming to be practicing righteousness. In reality, they carry the weight of countless spiritual errors and karmic burdens upon their head, for they remain utterly blind to the essential secret and the inner truth of existence.

Meaning: Whoever speaks ill of a true saint or an enlightened soul invites profound distress and spiritual crisis into their own life. Such a person remains trapped in the agonizing cycle of birth and death, wandering through existential suffering, for by disparaging the embodiment of truth, they close the doors to their own liberation and ultimate salvation.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that everything in existence is achieved through diligent effort and hard work; nothing is granted without labor. Just as a straight finger cannot scoop out solidified ghee from a narrow jar, success and spiritual liberation cannot be attained without strategic effort and persistent exertion.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that in the actual field of existence, mere words are transient and inconsequential. While speaking is effortless, true spiritual attainment is reserved for those whose conduct and actions align with their speech. Verbal claims are like chaff blown by the wind; only the 'amal' or the actualized practice yields lasting spiritual fruit.

Meaning: This couplet emphasizes the immutable law of karma and the necessity of spiritual guidance. Kabir asserts that every individual must experience the consequences of their own actions. Without the devotion and guidance of a True Guru (Satguru), a soul remains trapped in the cycle of ignorance, enduring suffering across countless lifetimes.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that regardless of one's innate talent, intellectual capacity, or divine grace, suffering and deprivation are inevitable without conscious effort and hard work. Just as food placed right before a person remains useless if they do not use their hand to lift it to their mouth, spiritual or material goals remain unattainable without the catalyst of action.
