Famous Kabir Dohe on Anti-Casteism —

(A person should be identified by their virtues and deeds, not by their caste or birth.)

No social evil drew Kabir's anger more than caste. Sant Kabir Das, himself a weaver in a society that ranked weavers low, saw the caste system as a human invention with no basis in God's eyes. His dohas on anti-casteism ask the proud and the privileged a simple question: what does birth have to do with the soul?

Kabir's attack on caste is total and uncompromising. He declares that all people are born the same way, that the blood of all humans is alike, and that God looks at the heart, not the family name. The dohas here were revolutionary in the fifteenth century and remain a challenge to every society that still ranks people by birth.

Read these couplets to understand why Kabir is remembered as a voice of social equality and why his words on caste continue to inspire movements for justice today.
