कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि समय की मार से बस्तियाँ उजड़ जाती हैं और कुम्हारों के चाक रुक जाते हैं। जिस प्रकार अत्यंत शक्तिशाली और अभिमानी रावण, जो पूरी लंका का स्वामी था, अंततः मृत्यु को प्राप्त हुआ और सब कुछ पीछे छोड़ गया, वैसे ही यह संसार और इसमें बसने वाले सभी नश्वर हैं।

Meaning: Kabir observes that settlements crumble and the potters' wheels eventually stop turning. Just as Ravana, the mighty and arrogant lord of Lanka, eventually succumbed to death and left behind all his grandeur, everything in this material world is transient and destined to perish.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि अधिकांश लोग ईश्वर की भक्ति और पूजा केवल भय के कारण करते हैं—नरक का भय, पाप का भय या दैवीय दंड का भय। वे बताते हैं कि यह भय ही वास्तव में जीव के लिए 'पारस' पत्थर के समान है, क्योंकि यही उसे आध्यात्मिक खोज की ओर धकेलता है, फिर भी विडंबना यह है कि पूर्णतः निर्भय होने वाला कोई नहीं मिलता।

Meaning: Kabir observes that most people engage in devotion and worship driven solely by fear—fear of hell, fear of sin, or fear of divine retribution. He suggests that while this fear acts as a 'Philosopher's Stone' (Paras) for the soul by initiating the spiritual quest, the ultimate tragedy is that almost no one ever transcends this fear to reach a state of absolute fearlessness.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि बिना भय के हृदय में वास्तविक भक्ति या प्रेम उत्पन्न नहीं होता। जब तक मनुष्य को अपने अहंकार और अज्ञान के परिणामों का भय नहीं होता, वह ईश्वर की शरण में नहीं जाता। परंतु जब यह आध्यात्मिक भय समाप्त होकर पूर्ण समर्पण में बदल जाता है, तब जीवन का वास्तविक रस और आध्यात्मिक आनंद प्राप्त होता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that without a sense of awe or spiritual fear, true devotion and love cannot blossom. Until one recognizes the peril of their own ego and ignorance, they remain distant from the Divine. However, once this fear is transmuted through surrender, the superficial rituals vanish, and the true essence of spiritual bliss is realized.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि जीवन के वे श्रेष्ठ और अनुकूल समय बीत चुके हैं जब मनुष्य को आध्यात्मिक साधना करनी चाहिए थी, परंतु उस समय उसने अपने गुरु के प्रति प्रेम और समर्पण नहीं दिखाया। अब समय बीत जाने के बाद पछतावा करने का कोई लाभ नहीं है, क्योंकि जिस प्रकार पक्षी खेत की पूरी फसल चुग चुके होते हैं, उसके बाद किसान का विलाप फसल को वापस नहीं ला सकता।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the golden days of opportunity have slipped away because the seeker failed to cultivate a deep, loving bond with the Guru. Now, lamenting the loss is futile; just as a farmer cannot recover his crops once the birds have devoured the entire field, one cannot reclaim lost spiritual time once the window of consciousness has closed.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जीवन में एक ऐसा समय अवश्य आएगा जब मनुष्य को अपने सभी प्रियजनों, भौतिक संपदा और इस नश्वर शरीर से अलग होना पड़ेगा। चाहे वह शक्तिशाली राजा हो, सामंत हो, धनी व्यक्ति हो या अत्यंत निर्धन रंक, मृत्यु सबको समान रूप से विलग करती है। इसलिए, अहंकार त्याग कर समय रहते आध्यात्मिक जागृति प्राप्त कर लेनी चाहिए।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a day will inevitably come when every human being must face an absolute separation from all loved ones, material possessions, and the physical body itself. Whether one is a powerful king, a nobleman, a wealthy merchant, or a destitute pauper, death acts as the ultimate equalizer. Thus, one must awaken spiritually and abandon ego before time runs out.

अर्थ: जब मन स्वयं को राजा या स्वामी मान लेता है, तो वह सांसारिक इच्छाओं और मोह-माया के भारी बोझ को ढोने लगता है। अंत में, जब सत्य का सामना होता है, तो केवल विलाप शेष रहता है क्योंकि जीवन की वास्तविक आध्यात्मिक पूंजी व्यर्थ के अहंकार में नष्ट हो चुकी होती है।

Meaning: When the mind appoints itself as the sovereign ruler, it begins to load itself with the heavy baggage of worldly desires and attachments. In the end, only lamentation remains, for the true spiritual capital of a human life has been squandered in the pursuit of an illusory ego.

अर्थ: यदि नाव में पानी भर जाए या घर में धन की अधिकता हो जाए, तो दोनों ही स्थितियों में उसे बाहर निकालना ही बुद्धिमानी है। जिस प्रकार नाव को डूबने से बचाने के लिए पानी निकालना आवश्यक है, उसी प्रकार आध्यात्मिक उन्नति के लिए अत्यधिक भौतिक मोह का त्याग करना अनिवार्य है।

Meaning: If water enters a boat or wealth accumulates excessively in a home, the wise course of action is to cast both out. Just as water must be drained to prevent a boat from sinking, the clinging to material abundance must be shed to prevent the soul from drowning in worldly illusion.

अर्थ: मनुष्य का मन इस संसार में केवल खाने, भोग विलास करने और भौतिक सुखों को बटोरने में व्यस्त रहता है, वह स्वयं को बहुत बड़ा और अहंकारी समझता है। कबीर चेतावनी देते हैं कि यदि तुम्हें कुछ वास्तव में प्राप्त करना है, तो इस जीवन रूपी युद्धक्षेत्र में आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान और आत्म-साक्षात्कार को प्राप्त कर लो, क्योंकि अंततः यही एकमात्र स्थायी उपलब्धि है।

Meaning: The human mind remains preoccupied with consuming, indulging, and accumulating material pleasures, blinded by its own arrogance and perceived importance. Kabir warns that if one truly wishes to gain anything of value, they must seize spiritual enlightenment and self-realization within this earthly battlefield, for these are the only enduring achievements in a transient existence.

अर्थ: जहाँ किसी के गुणों की कद्र नहीं होती, वहाँ उस व्यक्ति के लिए कोई स्थान नहीं होता। जिस प्रकार एक ऐसे गाँव में धोबी का कोई काम नहीं जहाँ सभी लोग दिगंबर (नग्न) रहते हों, वैसे ही गुणों के अभाव में व्यक्ति का अस्तित्व निरर्थक हो जाता है।

Meaning: Where a person's virtues are not recognized or valued, there is no place for them to belong. Just as a washerman finds no purpose or employment in a village of Digambaras (those who are sky-clad or naked), a person without inner merit or in an environment that ignores virtue finds no true standing.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वह व्यक्ति वास्तव में सौभाग्यशाली है जो सांसारिक मोह-माया और अहंकार की दौड़ में हार गया है। दुनिया की नजर में वह पराजित हो सकता है, लेकिन आध्यात्मिक रूप से वह जीत गया है क्योंकि अहंकार के मिटते ही वह परमात्मा (हरि) से मिल जाता है। इसके विपरीत, जो संसार को जीतता है, वह वास्तव में मृत्यु और अज्ञान के द्वार (यमराज) की ओर अग्रसर होता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the individual who 'loses' in the race of worldly ambitions and ego is truly fortunate. While the world may perceive them as a failure, this spiritual defeat is actually a victory, for the dissolution of the ego leads to union with the Divine (Hari). Conversely, those who conquer the world only succeed in securing their place at the gates of death and ignorance (Yama).
