कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वास्तविक वीर वह नहीं है जो दूसरों को जीतता है, बल्कि वह है जो संतोष की धारा को धारण करता है और विपरीत परिस्थितियों में भी धैर्य रखता है। इसके विपरीत, कायर वह है जो दूसरों के द्वारा दिए गए अपमान या चोट को मन में बैठाकर जीवनभर उसका शोक मनाता रहता है और अतीत के दुखों में डूबा रहता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that true bravery does not lie in conquering others, but in the ability to embody the flow of contentment and endure hardships with equanimity. In contrast, the coward is one who allows the wounds of insult or injury to fester within, spending a lifetime lamenting the past and remaining trapped in the cycle of resentment.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब जीवन में भय और संकट का समय आता है, तो मनुष्य घबराकर भागने का प्रयास करता है, लेकिन वह यह भूल जाता है कि उसका वास्तविक घर (परमात्मा) बहुत दूर प्रतीत होता है। अंततः, कबीर अनुभव करते हैं कि वे संसार रूपी खेत में हैं, जहाँ मोह और माया की सेनाओं ने उन्हें पूरी तरह घेर लिया है।

Meaning: Kabir questions where one can flee when overwhelmed by intense fear and the realization that the spiritual home is distant. He observes that in the field of worldly existence, the armies of desire, attachment, and illusion have arrived in full force, leaving the soul surrounded and breathless.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि आध्यात्मिक मार्ग पर केवल दो ही स्थितियाँ हैं: या तो स्वयं के अहंकार का विसर्जन (मरना) या फिर अज्ञानता और माया के बंधनों का विनाश (मारना)। यही वह कठिन सिद्धि है जहाँ साधक को अपनी पुरानी पहचान को मिटाना पड़ता है। जो लोग केवल बाहरी दिखावे या किताबी ज्ञान के सहारे चलते हैं, वे अंततः असफल और कायर सिद्ध होते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that on the spiritual path, there are only two definitive states: either the voluntary dissolution of the ego (dying to the self) or the active destruction of ignorance and worldly attachments (killing the illusion). This is the paradoxical achievement of liberation. Those who rely solely on theoretical knowledge or the safety of ritualistic shields are cowards who will never attain the ultimate truth.

अर्थ: यह दोहा आत्मा और परमात्मा के मिलन के उस चरम क्षण का वर्णन करता है जहाँ संसार का सारा द्वंद्व समाप्त हो जाता है। जब साधक को अपने वास्तविक प्रिय (ईश्वर) के दर्शन होते हैं, तो अहंकार का युद्ध समाप्त हो जाता है और भ्रम की सारी परतें छिन्न-भिन्न हो जाती हैं।

Meaning: This couplet describes the ultimate moment of union between the soul and the Divine, where all worldly conflicts cease. When the seeker finally encounters their true Beloved (God), the war of the ego ends, and all layers of illusion are completely shattered.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि थोड़ा सा उथला पानी बेहतर है जहाँ पैर मजबूती से टिक सकें, बजाय उस गहरे पानी के जो ऊपर से तो आकर्षक और काम का लगता है, लेकिन वास्तव में वह सावन के महीने के बगुले की तरह भ्रमित करने वाला और खतरनाक होता है। यह बाहरी दिखावे और आंतरिक गहराई के बीच के अंतर को दर्शाता है।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that a shallow stream is preferable where one can plant their feet firmly, rather than deep waters that appear promising or useful but are as deceptive as a heron in the rainy season. It is a warning against the allure of superficial grandeur that masks inherent danger or instability.

अर्थ: परमात्मा हमारे भीतर ही निवास करता है, फिर भी मनुष्य उसे बाहर खोजने की व्यर्थ चेष्टा करता है। वह धैर्य खोकर संसार में भटकता है, लेकिन अंततः उसे यह बोध होता है कि वह दिव्य सत्ता उसके अपने हृदय में ही विराजमान है, जहाँ वह पूर्ण आनंद और शांति में स्थित है।

Meaning: The Divine resides within us, yet humanity tirelessly searches for Him in external realms. Driven by restlessness, the seeker wanders far and wide, only to eventually realize that the Eternal Lord dwells within the heart, existing in a state of supreme bliss and sovereign stillness.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब आत्म-ज्ञान की अग्नि प्रज्वलित होती है, तो जीवन का सार (शुद्ध तत्व) उभर आता है और अहंकार रूपी लोहा झड़ जाता है। माया की जंजीरें और सांसारिक बंधन टूट जाते हैं, जिससे साधक मृत्यु के भय (यम) को पार कर आध्यात्मिक स्वतंत्रता की उच्च अवस्था को प्राप्त कर लेता है।

Meaning: Kabir proclaims that when the fire of self-realization ignites, the essential essence of being emerges while the iron of ego disintegrates. The chains of Maya and worldly attachments are shattered, allowing the seeker to transcend the fear of death (Yama) and ascend to the pinnacle of spiritual liberation.

अर्थ: इस दोहे में कबीर कहते हैं कि संसार के सभी लोग अपने-अपने अहंकार और मतभेदों के हथियारों से लैस होकर आध्यात्मिक युद्ध या सत्य की खोज में निकले हैं। लेकिन जब वे उस परम सत्ता, 'साहब' (ईश्वर या आत्म-साक्षात्कार) के सम्मुख खड़े होते हैं, तो बाहरी शस्त्र व्यर्थ हो जाते हैं और केवल वही एक व्यक्ति वास्तव में संघर्ष कर पाता है जिसने अपने अहंकार को विसर्जित कर दिया है।

Meaning: In this couplet, Kabir observes that everyone sets out for the spiritual battle of truth, armed with various weapons of ego, dogma, and intellectual pride. However, when they finally stand before the 'Sahab' (the Divine or the Absolute Truth), these external armaments prove useless. Only the one who has transcended the ego is capable of truly engaging with the Divine essence.

When crisis strikes, the mind often reacts with a superficial smile or a desire to flee; however, true liberation is only achieved by confronting the internal battle and emerging victorious through persistence.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जो व्यक्ति केवल अपने बल या शस्त्रों के अहंकार से लड़ता है, वह वास्तव में वीर नहीं है। सच्चा शूरवीर वह है जो अपनी संपत्ति, संसाधनों और प्रेम को दूसरों के साथ साझा करता है और निस्वार्थ भाव से सेवा करता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that one who fights merely with the strength of weapons or the arrogance of power is not a true warrior. The real hero is the one who possesses the courage to share their wealth, resources, and love with others, practicing selfless generosity.
