कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस अहंकार और अज्ञान के कारण मनुष्य पृथ्वी और मानवता को कुचलता है, वही आंतरिक अग्नि अंततः उसके अपने अस्तित्व को जलाकर राख कर देती है। वे विद्वानों को चेतावनी देते हैं कि बाहरी आडंबरों के बजाय इस आंतरिक विनाश पर विचार करें।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the same arrogance and ignorance that lead a person to trample upon the earth and humanity eventually manifest as an internal fire that consumes their own soul. He urges the learned to contemplate this inevitable spiritual combustion.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस परम तत्व को प्राप्त करने के लिए महान ऋषियों ने कठोर तपस्या की और वेदों ने जिनके गुणों का वर्णन करते-करते स्वयं को समर्पित कर दिया, वही ईश्वर वास्तव में सच्चा गुरु है। विडंबना यह है कि वह सत्य इतना सरल और आंतरिक है कि दुनिया के लोग उस पर विश्वास नहीं करते और बाहरी आडंबरों में उलझे रहते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the Ultimate Truth, for which great sages performed rigorous austerities and the Vedas exhausted themselves singing its praises, is the only true Teacher. Yet, the paradox remains that this divine reality is so profoundly internal and simple that the world refuses to believe in it, preferring instead the noise of external rituals.

अर्थ: जिस व्यक्ति को सच्चा आध्यात्मिक गुरु नहीं मिला, वह जीवन के चारों दिशाओं में व्याकुल होकर भटकता रहता है। वह अज्ञानता के अंधेपन में इतना अंधा हो चुका है कि अपने घर के जलते हुए होने के बावजूद वह बाहर बुझे हुए ठंडे ढेरों को देख रहा है, यानी वह सत्य को खोजने के बजाय भ्रम में समय नष्ट कर रहा है।

Meaning: One who has not encountered a true spiritual guide wanders in agitation across the four directions of existence. Blinded by ignorance, this foolish soul fails to see that their own internal house is ablaze with suffering, yet they waste their energy staring at cold, extinguished heaps of ash elsewhere, missing the urgent reality of their own condition.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that when the soul awakens to its true nature, the 'Shabd' (divine sound or the Guru's word) acts as borax (suhaga), purifying the soul of its impurities to reveal its golden essence. He describes a mystical state where the infinitesimal point (bindu) merges with the cosmic waters, a rare spiritual realization that Kabir challenges the seeker to actually witness within themselves.

Meaning: Kabir suggests that one who, after attaining true knowledge and self-realization, remains seemingly inert or detached from worldly lures, and relinquishes the strength of the ego to become 'weak' in the eyes of the world, is a true saint. Such a person is no longer grasped by the shackles of Maya or worldly attachments, as they have transcended the cycle of desire and identification with the material self.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब तक हृदय वास्तव में परमात्मा या सत्य से नहीं मिलता, तब तक केवल शब्दों का ज्ञान शरीर के अंगों तक सीमित रहता है और आत्मा को नहीं छूता। वे पुकार कर कहते हैं कि बिना आंतरिक रूपांतरण के, एक हंस (ज्ञानी) और बगुले (पाखंडी) के बीच कोई अंतर नहीं रह जाता; दोनों बाहरी रूप से समान दिखते हैं, लेकिन आंतरिक सत्य गायब होता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that unless the heart truly unites with the Divine or the Ultimate Truth, the knowledge of sacred words remains a mere physical exercise, touching only the limbs and not the soul. He proclaims that without this internal alchemy, there is no distinction between the Swan (the true seeker) and the Heron (the hypocrite); though they may appear similar in ritual, the essence of purity is missing.

Meaning: Humanity spends entire eons searching for the Divine in distant places, unaware that the Source resides within the depths of one's own heart. It is only the inflation of ego and pride that creates an artificial distance, veiling the Truth that is eternally present.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिसने समय रहते अपने जीवन की तैयारी नहीं की और अपने आध्यात्मिक आधार को सुदृढ़ नहीं किया, वह अंततः पछताता है। जब जीवन का संध्याकाल आता है और समय समाप्त हो जाता है, तब चाहकर भी तैयारी करना संभव नहीं होता।

Meaning: Kabir warns that those who fail to prepare their spiritual foundation and align themselves with the Truth while they have the opportunity will find themselves adrift. When the day ends and the final hour arrives, the opportunity for preparation vanishes, leaving only regret.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार एक छोटा जीव (कीड़ा या प्राणी) अपने अस्तित्व के बिना नहीं रह सकता, उसी प्रकार समस्त चेतना एक-दूसरे पर निर्भर है। वे विद्वानों से आग्रह करते हैं कि वे इस सत्य पर विचार करें कि करुणा ही जीवन का वास्तविक आधार है और सभी जीवों के प्रति दया भाव रखना ही सच्ची आध्यात्मिकता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that no living being can exist in isolation, as every spark of life is fundamentally interconnected. He urges the learned and the scholars to contemplate the profound truth that compassion is the only sustainable foundation of existence, and that practicing kindness toward all sentient beings is the highest form of wisdom.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि अपनी जीभ पर नियंत्रण रखें और अनावश्यक बोलने की आदत को त्याग दें। इसके बजाय, अपनी संगति ऐसे अनुभवी और पारखी लोगों के साथ करें जो सत्य को पहचानते हों, और गुरु द्वारा दिए गए पवित्र शब्दों और ज्ञान पर गहन विचार करें।

Meaning: Kabir advises the seeker to restrain the tongue and eliminate the habit of excessive speaking. Instead of wasting energy in idle chatter, one should seek the company of the 'Parkhi'—the discerning experts of truth—and deeply contemplate the sacred words and wisdom transmitted by the enlightened Guru.
