कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार कर्ण ने अपना स्वर्ण कवच दान कर दिया और द्रौपदी को उनकी मर्यादा की रक्षा के लिए वस्त्र मिले, उसी प्रकार जीवन का नियम यह है कि मनुष्य जो दूसरों को निस्वार्थ भाव से देता है, अंततः वही उसे आध्यात्मिक और मानसिक शांति के रूप में वापस प्राप्त होता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that just as Karna sacrificed his golden armor and Draupadi was granted the endless cloth for her honor, the universal law of existence is that whatever one gives selflessly to others is exactly what one eventually receives in the form of spiritual abundance and inner peace.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि एक जागृत आत्मा के लिए सुख और दुख दोनों एक समान होते हैं। वह न तो खुशी में अति उत्साहित होता है और न ही शोक में डूबता है। जब व्यक्ति बिना किसी फल की इच्छा के दूसरों का उपकार करता है, तो उसके भीतर केवल निस्वार्थ प्रेम उत्पन्न होता है, मानसिक संताप या जलन नहीं।

Meaning: Kabir teaches that for an awakened soul, pleasure and pain are perceived as identical. Such a person is neither overwhelmed by joy nor consumed by grief. When one performs acts of kindness without any expectation of reward, a pure, selfless love emerges, freeing the heart from the burning agony of attachment and desire.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि एक सच्चा साधु वह है जो परोपकार में लीन रहता है। उसकी उपस्थिति और करुणा उस वर्षा की तरह है जो बिना किसी भेदभाव के बरसती है। वह अपनी आंतरिक आध्यात्मिक शक्ति (पारस) के माध्यम से दूसरों के दुखों और मानसिक क्लेशों की अग्नि को शांत करता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a true seeker or saint is one whose existence is dedicated to the welfare of others. Their compassion is likened to a sudden, refreshing rain that falls indiscriminately. By applying the 'Paras' (the philosopher's stone) of their realized consciousness, they extinguish the fires of suffering and mental anguish in others.

अर्थ: जब एक सच्चे साधु या आत्म-ज्ञानी व्यक्ति का आगमन होता है, तो मेरे शरीर और मन की सारी जड़ता और तनाव समाप्त हो जाते हैं। मेरे मस्तक पर छाया हुआ मानसिक बोझ और अहंकार का प्रभाव मिट जाता है, और मेरी आँखों में उनके प्रति अगाध प्रेम और करुणा उमड़ पड़ती है।

Meaning: Upon witnessing the arrival of a true seeker or a realized soul, the rigidity and tension within my physical and mental being dissolve. The heavy burden of ego and the 'planetary' afflictions of the mind lift from my forehead, replaced by an overflowing surge of divine love and affection in my eyes.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि एक सच्चा साधु उस भौंरे के समान है जो इस संसार रूपी कली में निरंतर विरक्त होकर घूमता रहता है। वह केवल वहीं ठहरता है और वहीं अपना समय व्यतीत करता है जहाँ उसे परमात्मा के शीतल और शांतिदायक शब्दों का अनुभव होता है।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that a true seeker is like a bumblebee in the garden of the world. While the world appears as a budding flower, the seeker wanders in a state of divine longing, pausing only where the cooling, tranquil vibrations of the Eternal Word reside.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि मनुष्य को अपने मन में मान-अपमान की भावना को स्थान नहीं देना चाहिए और स्त्रियों का सम्मान करना चाहिए। जो व्यक्ति बाहरी प्रशंसा या सम्मान की आशा करता है, वह वास्तव में ज्ञान से दूर है; सच्चा ज्ञान उसे मिलता है जो अहंकार से मुक्त होकर सबके प्रति सम्मान भाव रखता है।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that one should not harbor feelings of pride or resentment over honor and dishonor in the mind, and must uphold the dignity of women. Those who crave external validation or social status are blinded to the truth; true spiritual knowledge descends only upon those who abandon the ego's desire for recognition.

अर्थ: एक सच्चा साधु वह है जो समस्त सृष्टि के प्रत्येक जीव में उसी परमात्मा का वास देखता है और किसी को भी मानसिक या शारीरिक कष्ट नहीं पहुँचाता। वह अपने आंतरिक सत्य और संयम में अडिग रहता है, क्योंकि यही एक वास्तविक साधक की असली पहचान और उसकी आंतरिक शक्ति है।

Meaning: A true seeker is one who perceives the Divine residing within every living being and therefore ensures that no creature suffers because of their actions. Such a person remains steadfast in their own spiritual conviction and inner discipline, for this unwavering adherence to truth is the hallmark of a genuine saint.

अर्थ: जिस परम आनंद और शांति की खोज में महान ऋषि-मुनि कठिन तपस्या करते हैं और जिसे पाने के लिए साधारण मनुष्य विलाप करता है या व्याकुल रहता है, वह दुर्लभ सुख वास्तव में संतों की सच्ची संगति और उनके मार्गदर्शन से सहजता से प्राप्त किया जा सकता है।

Meaning: The supreme bliss and eternal peace that great sages strive for through rigorous austerity, and for which the common man laments in longing, can be attained effortlessly and naturally through the company of realized souls and the guidance of true saints.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वास्तविक शीतलता न तो ठंडे पानी में है और न ही बर्फ में। सच्ची शीतलता उस संत हृदय में वास करती है जो परमात्मा (राम) के प्रेम में लीन है और जिसके भीतर अहंकार का ताप पूरी तरह समाप्त हो चुका है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that true coolness is found neither in chilled water nor in ice. Genuine serenity and coolness reside within the heart of a saint who is immersed in the love of the Divine (Ram) and whose inner fire of ego has been completely extinguished.

अर्थ: जब कोई व्यक्ति किसी साधु या आध्यात्मिक गुरु को देखकर अपने मन में ईर्ष्या, घृणा या तिरस्कार का भाव लाता है, तो वह वास्तव में अपनी ही आध्यात्मिक दरिद्रता को प्रदर्शित करता है। ऐसा व्यक्ति चाहे बाहरी रूप से कितना भी समृद्ध हो, आंतरिक रूप से वह उसी निम्न स्तर पर है जैसे समाज के सबसे उपेक्षित वर्ग को रखा जाता था, क्योंकि उसका हृदय संकीर्ण और अशुद्ध है।

Meaning: When a person witnesses a saint or a spiritual seeker and feels a twist of resentment, ego, or contempt within their heart, they reveal their own spiritual poverty. Regardless of their social standing or material wealth, such an individual remains internally degraded—akin to those historically marginalized and pushed to the outskirts of society—because their consciousness is clouded by prejudice and ignorance.
