कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि केवल वह वृक्ष ही जानता है जिसे पानी मिला है और जिसने उसकी शीतलता और प्रेम को महसूस किया है। वह सूखी लकड़ी, जो भीतर से मृत है, कभी नहीं समझ सकती कि बारिश की बूंदों का आनंद क्या होता है या वह पानी कहाँ से आता है और कैसे जीवन देता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that only the living, green tree understands the love and nourishment provided by water. A piece of dry, dead wood cannot comprehend the essence of the rain or the profound joy of being drenched in divine grace, as it has lost the capacity to feel.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार समुद्र की लहरें तट पर अनमोल मोती बिखेर देती हैं, उसी प्रकार यह संसार आध्यात्मिक सत्यों और दिव्य अनुभवों से भरा हुआ है। परंतु, एक बगुला (अज्ञानी व्यक्ति) उनकी असली कीमत नहीं पहचान पाता, जबकि एक हंस (ज्ञानी साधक) केवल शुद्ध मोतियों को चुन-चुनकर ग्रहण करता है।

Meaning: Kabir explains that just as the waves of the ocean cast precious pearls upon the shore, the world is overflowing with spiritual truths and divine revelations. However, the heron (the ignorant or superficial seeker) fails to recognize their true value, whereas the swan (the enlightened soul) discerns and gathers only the pure, essential pearls of wisdom.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि ईश्वर की कृपा और भक्ति का रस मूसलाधार वर्षा की तरह बरस रहा है, जो पहाड़ों, पर्वतों और जंगलों पर समान रूप से गिर रहा है। परंतु, जल हमेशा ढलान की ओर बहकर नीचे के निचले हिस्सों में ही ठहरता है; वह उन ऊंचे स्थानों पर नहीं रुकता जहाँ अहंकार की छत या गर्व की दीवारें खड़ी हों।

Meaning: Kabir declares that the divine essence of love and grace is raining down abundantly upon the mountains, peaks, and forests of existence. However, water naturally flows downward and collects only in the low-lying areas; it cannot dwell upon the heights where the 'roof' of pride or the walls of ego prevent its accumulation.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि आपका संबंध किसी अज्ञानी या पशु-तुल्य व्यक्ति से पड़ गया है, तो अपने हृदय में क्रोध या चिड़चिड़ापन न रखें। जिस प्रकार बंजर भूमि में बीज बोने से फसल नहीं उगती, उसी प्रकार अज्ञानी व्यक्ति में ज्ञान डालने का प्रयास व्यर्थ है, चाहे आप उसे कितना भी दोहराकर समझाएं।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that if you find yourself entangled with someone who possesses an animalistic or ignorant nature, do not allow resentment or anger to fester in your heart. Just as a seed will never sprout in barren soil, spiritual wisdom will not take root in a mind closed by ignorance, regardless of how many times the truth is sown.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि मनुष्य का मुख एक द्वार की तरह है, जहाँ से निकलने वाले शब्द कभी-कभी जहरीले सांपों के समान होते हैं जो दूसरों को और स्वयं को चोट पहुँचाते हैं। इस वाणी के विष का एकमात्र उपचार 'मौन' है; यदि व्यक्ति मौन रहना सीख ले, तो वह किसी भी प्रकार के मानसिक या आध्यात्मिक विष को अपने शरीर और आत्मा में फैलने से रोक सकता है।

Meaning: Kabir explains that the human mouth is like a gateway from which words can emerge like venomous serpents, causing profound harm to others and the speaker. The only antidote to this linguistic poison is 'Maun' (sacred silence). By practicing conscious silence, one prevents the toxicity of anger and ego from permeating the physical and spiritual being.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि बिना गुरु की भक्ति और मार्गदर्शन के, मनुष्य चाहे कितना भी शक्तिशाली या राजा जैसा क्यों न हो, वह आध्यात्मिक रूप से एक पशु के समान ही रहता है। जिस प्रकार कुम्हार के पास पड़ी मिट्टी के ढेर को कोई महत्व नहीं देता और न ही उस पर घास डालता है, वैसे ही बिना ज्ञान के मनुष्य का जीवन निरर्थक और उपेक्षित रह जाता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that without the devotion and guidance of a Guru, a person—regardless of their worldly power or royal status—remains spiritually equivalent to an animal. Just as a heap of raw clay lying by a potter's wheel is ignored and deemed worthless by passersby, a human life devoid of spiritual awakening remains stagnant, unrefined, and devoid of true value.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वह विद्वान ब्राह्मण व्यर्थ है जो अहंकार में डूबा है और गुरु के ज्ञान को नहीं मानता, जबकि वह चमार श्रेष्ठ है जिसने गुरु के चरणों में समर्पण कर दिया है। इसी प्रकार, उन देवताओं से बेहतर वह कुत्ता है जो अपने स्वामी के प्रति निष्ठावान है और निरंतर उसकी सेवा में तत्पर रहता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a learned Brahmin is useless if he is blinded by arrogance and ignores the Guru's wisdom, whereas a leather-worker (Chamar) is superior if he has surrendered to the Guru's guidance. Similarly, a loyal dog that wakes its master with devotion is better than distant deities who remain indifferent to the seeker's struggle.

अर्थ: यदि कोई व्यक्ति सुमेरु पर्वत के समान स्वर्ण अर्पित कर दे या सोने के समस्त भंडार दान कर दे, तब भी वह आध्यात्मिक लक्ष्य प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता यदि वह अपने गुरु के निर्देशों के प्रति उदासीन है या उनसे विमुख है। सच्ची उपलब्धि भौतिक दान में नहीं, बल्कि गुरु के मार्गदर्शन के प्रति पूर्ण समर्पण में निहित है।

Meaning: Even if one offers a mountain of gold like Mount Meru or donates entire treasuries of wealth, they will never reach the ultimate spiritual shore if they remain indifferent or turned away from the guidance of the Guru. True liberation is not found in material sacrifice, but in absolute surrender to the spiritual teacher's wisdom.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि इस ब्रह्मांड के केंद्र में, शून्य के उस असीम विस्तार में, वह दिव्य प्रकाश (नूर) चमक रहा है। जो व्यक्ति केवल बाहरी आडंबरों और सांसारिक महलों की खोज में लगा रहता है, वह उस परम सत्य को कभी प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता; उस दिव्य अवस्था तक केवल गुरु के मार्गदर्शन और आंतरिक ज्ञान के माध्यम से ही पहुँचा जा सकता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that in the center of the celestial sphere, within the vastness of the void, the Divine Light (Noor) radiates. One who seeks only the material palaces of the world or clings to external rituals will never find this sanctuary; the realization of this supreme state is attainable only through the grace of a true Guru and the awakening of inner consciousness.

अर्थ: बिना गुरु के माला जपना या दान देना व्यर्थ है। कबीर कहते हैं कि बिना एक सच्चे मार्गदर्शक के किए गए सभी धार्मिक प्रयास निष्फल हो जाते हैं, और इस सत्य की पुष्टि प्राचीन वेदों और पुराणों में भी मिलती है।

Meaning: Reciting mantras with a rosary or giving charity without the guidance of a true Guru is futile. Kabir asserts that all spiritual and philanthropic efforts remain fruitless without a realized master, a truth echoed in the ancient Vedas and Puranas.
