कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: हे वीर! यह मानव जीवन वास्तव में कुछ भी नहीं है, क्योंकि यह क्षणभंगुर है। कभी यह कड़वा अनुभव कराता है तो कभी मीठा। कल तक जो व्यक्ति जीवित और सक्रिय था, आज उसे श्मशान की ओर जाते हुए देखा जा सकता है। जीवन की अनिश्चितता ही इसकी एकमात्र सच्चाई है।

Meaning: O Brave Soul! This human life is essentially nothing, for it is fleeting and unstable. At one moment it tastes of bitterness, and the next, of sweetness. One who was vibrant and alive yesterday is seen today heading toward the cremation ground. The absolute uncertainty of existence is the only enduring truth.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि आध्यात्मिक लक्ष्य अभी भी बहुत दूर है और जीवन की संध्या (मृत्यु) निकट आ गई है। जो लोग समय रहते जागृत नहीं हुए और केवल बाहरी आडंबरों या सांसारिक मोह में फंसे रहे, वे अंत में उस वैश्या की तरह खाली हाथ रह जाएंगे जिसने जीवन भर केवल इच्छाएं कीं लेकिन कभी वास्तविक प्रेम या संतान (आध्यात्मिक उपलब्धि) प्राप्त नहीं की।

Meaning: Kabir warns that the spiritual destination remains distant while the evening of life—death—has already arrived. Those who squandered their time in ignorance or superficial pursuits, failing to cultivate their inner soul, will end up like a barren courtesan: surrounded by luxury and desire, yet utterly void of the one thing that provides true fulfillment and legacy—spiritual realization.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मृत्यु का सत्य सदैव हमारे साथ चलता है, फिर इस नश्वर जीवन की व्यर्थ आशा क्यों? जब तक यह प्राण रूपी श्वास इस शरीर रूपी पिंजरे में है, तब तक ईश्वर के नाम का स्मरण कर आत्म-साक्षात्कार कर लेना चाहिए।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the certainty of death accompanies us at every moment, questioning the futility of clinging to worldly hopes. He urges the seeker to embrace the Divine Name and spiritual mindfulness while the breath still lingers within the cage of the physical body.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य समय की गणना और सांसारिक उलझनों में ही अपना पूरा जीवन व्यतीत कर देता है, जबकि समय का चक्र निरंतर चलता रहता है और आध्यात्मिक ऋण बढ़ता जाता है। उसने न तो ईश्वर का स्मरण किया और न ही अपने कर्मों के हिसाब-किताब को चुकता किया, और अब मृत्यु का समय निकट आ गया है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a human spends their entire existence in hesitation and worldly distractions, while the clock of life ticks away and the spiritual debt accumulates. Neither did they meditate upon the Divine nor settle the accounts of their karmic obligations, and now, the inevitable moment of death has arrived.

अर्थ: जब दैवीय गुण या आध्यात्मिक चेतना का आगमन होता है, तो मन एक वन माली की तरह आनंदित होकर नाचने लगता है। जिस शाखा पर हमने प्रेम और क्रीड़ा की, वही अब वायु के झोंकों के साथ विलीन हो रही है, यह दर्शाते हुए कि आध्यात्मिक आनंद क्षणिक आकर्षणों से परे एक शाश्वत प्रवाह है।

Meaning: When divine virtues or spiritual consciousness descend, the mind dances with joy like a forest gardener. The very branches where we once played and lingered in worldly attachment are now being swept away by the wind, signifying that true spiritual bliss transcends temporary attachments and flows toward the infinite.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि कुछ तपस्वी अपनी कठोर साधना से पर्वतों को चीर देते हैं और समुद्रों को भर देते हैं। लेकिन अंततः वे सभी इसी मिट्टी में मिल जाते हैं। जब अंत निश्चित है, तो मनुष्य को अपनी उपलब्धियों या आध्यात्मिक शक्तियों पर अहंकार क्यों करना चाहिए?

Meaning: Kabir observes that some ascetics possess the power to split mountains and fill oceans through rigorous penance. However, despite such extraordinary feats, these sages eventually succumb to death and merge with the earth. If the final destination for all is the dust, why should one harbor pride in their achievements or spiritual powers?

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि केवल उस निराकार राम (परम तत्व) में ही वास्तविक और शाश्वत सुख निहित है। इसके अतिरिक्त संसार की हर वस्तु और इच्छा दुखों का अंबार है। चाहे वे देवता हों, मनुष्य हों, ऋषि हों या असुर, सभी समय (मृत्यु) के जाल में फंसे हुए हैं और नश्वरता के अधीन हैं।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that true and eternal bliss resides solely in the formless Ram (the Supreme Reality). Everything else in this material existence is merely a heap of sorrows. Whether they be celestial deities, mortal humans, enlightened sages, or demonic forces, all are ensnared by the noose of Time and subject to inevitable decay.

अर्थ: यह शरीर और मन अत्यंत चंचल और अस्थिर हैं, फिर भी मनुष्य निरंतर सांसारिक कर्मों में उलझा रहता है। जैसे-जैसे मनुष्य इस भ्रम में भटकता है कि वह अमर है या नियंत्रण में है, वैसे-वैसे काल (मृत्यु/समय) उसकी अज्ञानता पर मंद-मंद मुस्कुराता है।

Meaning: The physical body and the mind are inherently unstable and fleeting, yet man persists in performing restless worldly actions. As the human wanders aimlessly in the delusion of permanence and ego, Time (Death) smiles mockingly at this profound ignorance.

अर्थ: जिस व्यक्ति ने अपनी अहंकारपूर्ण पहचान और सांसारिक अस्तित्व के निशानों को पूरी तरह मिटा दिया है, उसे इस संसार की कोई भी बाधा या बंधन रोक नहीं सकता। जब साधक को उस 'परम पुरुष' या आत्म-खजाने की प्राप्ति होती है, तो उसके जीवन के सभी सांसारिक शोर, द्वंद्व और व्यर्थ के विवाद स्वतः ही समाप्त हो जाते हैं।

Meaning: One who has erased all traces of their egoic identity and worldly markers cannot be hindered or bound by any worldly obstacle. Upon discovering the 'Supreme Treasure'—the realization of the Pure Consciousness or the Divine Self—all the mundane noise, conflicts, and trivialities of existence vanish into nothingness.

अर्थ: कबीर एक पेड़ के पत्ते से संवाद करते हुए कहते हैं कि हे पत्ते, इस संसार रूपी घर की रीति को समझो। यहाँ कोई स्थायी निवास नहीं है; जैसे एक पत्ता आता है और फिर गिर जाता है, वैसे ही मनुष्य का जन्म और मृत्यु का चक्र निरंतर चलता रहता है।

Meaning: Kabir addresses a leaf of a tree, urging it to listen to a fundamental truth. He explains that in this worldly household, the only constant law is transience: for every arrival, there is an inevitable departure, mirroring the cycle of birth and death.
