Famous Kabir Dohe on Moral Values —

Meaning: One who consciously rejects the truth after realizing it and instead develops an affection for falsehood is a dangerous companion. Kabir warns that such a person should be avoided entirely, even in one's dreams, as spiritual progress is impossible in the company of deceit.

Meaning: Kabir warns that those who indulge in lust for others' partners or seek gains through theft and deceit may experience a fleeting sense of pleasure. However, this joy is transient, lasting only a few days, while the eventual consequence is a total and rooted destruction of one's spiritual and worldly existence.

Meaning: Kabir warns that the allure of another's partner or the obsession with external beauty is a snare that few escape. While such temptations initially taste as sweet as crystallized sugar, they ultimately transform into a potent poison that destroys one's spiritual integrity and inner peace.

Meaning: Kabir warns that indulging in lust or being captivated by another's partner is a path devoid of virtue, filled only with flaws. He likens this obsession to venturing into a vast, treacherous ocean where one is swallowed by desire, losing their spiritual anchor and drifting toward inevitable ruin.

Meaning: This couplet warns against the perils of lust and external attachments. Kabir suggests that one who is consumed by the desire for another's partner or the allure of worldly distractions eventually finds themselves sitting in a void of loneliness, their internal instability manifesting as a form of spiritual madness.

Meaning: Kabir warns that when a person becomes consumed by worldly attachment and carnal desire, their intellect and discernment vanish. In this blind pursuit of sensory pleasure, one risks their own physical and mental well-being, yet fails to achieve any meaningful spiritual progress or lasting fulfillment.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a person consumed by worldly attachments and the pursuit of sensory pleasures squanders their inner peace and spiritual prosperity. When an individual is enslaved by external attractions and carnal desires, they find themselves unable to penetrate the depths of devotion, liberation, and self-realization, as their consciousness remains fragmented and distracted.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that gold (wealth) and lust (sensual desire) are like poisonous fruits cultivated by the world. Merely glancing at them allows the poison of greed and longing to seep into the consciousness; however, attempting to consume or possess them fully leads to the total annihilation of the spiritual self.

Meaning: Kabir warns that gold (material wealth) and lust (carnal desire) are both like blazing fires. Just as fire consumes the physical body, an obsession with wealth and desire incinerates one's discernment and character. Merely glancing at these temptations ignites the fire of longing, and falling into their grip leads to total spiritual and moral ruin.

Meaning: This world is like a deceptive bond or a fraudulent illusion that creates a false dichotomy between the virtuous and the wicked. Those who isolate themselves in a prideful pursuit of perceived purity are distant from the Truth, while those who remain humble and close to the common folk are often labeled as lowly, yet they are the ones truly aligned with the Divine.
