Meaning: A true seeker or saint never abandons their inner peace and spiritual integrity, even when surrounded by millions of the ignorant or malevolent. Just as the serpents dwelling in the sandalwood forests of Malaya are permeated by the fragrance and coolness of the wood yet never relinquish their innate venomous nature, a steadfast soul maintains their inherent spiritual stability and purity regardless of the chaotic or corrupting influences of the external world.

Meaning: Kabir observes that just as a foolish calf might ignore the nourishing milk to cling to waste or dirt, an ignorant person discards spiritual virtues to embrace vices and worldly delusions. A true seeker or 'Sadhu' is defined by the conscious act of shedding internal flaws and clinging firmly to the divine attributes of truth and purity.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the words of a true seeker or an enlightened soul are profoundly cooling and succulent. Such speech possesses a transformative quality that brings peace to the listener's heart and transcends the destructive grip of time and the fear of mortality, anchoring the soul in eternal truth.

Meaning: Kabir observes that the inhabitants of this temporal world are bound by time; they meet only to eventually part ways. Driven by personal greed and selfish gain, they swear oaths in the name of the Divine (Ram) to deceive others and validate their lies.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that anyone yearning for the divine vision (Didaar) must first purge three fundamental impurities from their consciousness: theft (the desire for what belongs to others or false credit), betrayal/backbiting (the act of exposing others' flaws), and the 'interest' of worldly lust or attachment. Only after eliminating these psychic burdens can the soul attain the purity required for spiritual realization.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that when a seeker reaches a state of absolute void, they realize they belong to no one, and no one belongs to them. This is the pinnacle of detachment where the soul, freed from all worldly ties, crosses the ocean of existence. Like a boat that carries a passenger to the distant shore and then departs, the soul transcends all dualistic relationships to merge with the Infinite.

Meaning: The influence of company is profound; associating with the virtuous births peace and joy, while the company of the wicked brings only distress. Therefore, one should serve the truly enlightened souls, for such selfless service renders this human birth meaningful and spiritually fulfilled.

Meaning: The service and company of a true saint or enlightened soul never go in vain. Just as the mythical Paras stone transforms base iron into pure gold upon touch, the presence and guidance of a realized being transmute the leaden ignorance of a human soul into the golden light of spiritual awakening.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a true saint is one who is entirely devoid of ego and never insults others. Such a person possesses a naturally cool and serene temperament. Through this equanimity and humility, they successfully cross the ocean of worldly existence and shatter the teeth of Yama, the god of death, overcoming the ultimate fear of mortality.

Meaning: Kabir explains that the true hallmarks of a saint or a realized soul are humility, the absence of ego, an equitable disposition toward all beings, and a gentle nature. Only when these qualities are deeply ingrained does one embody the essence of Truth and achieve genuine spiritual awakening.
