कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य को अपने धन, यौवन या शक्ति पर कभी अहंकार नहीं करना चाहिए। समय (मृत्यु) अत्यंत बलवान है और वह कभी भी अचानक आकर व्यक्ति को अपने साथ ले जा सकता है। चाहे आप अपने घर के सुरक्षित वातावरण में हों या किसी अनजान विदेश भूमि में, मृत्यु का प्रहार अप्रत्याशित है और इससे कोई नहीं बच सकता।

Meaning: Kabir warns against the folly of pride in one's status, youth, or possessions. He asserts that Time, in the form of Death, holds the hair of every living being, ready to pull them away at any moment. Neither the familiarity of home nor the distance of a foreign land offers sanctuary from the inevitable and unpredictable arrival of the end.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि अपनी युवावस्था और शारीरिक सौंदर्य पर कभी अहंकार न करें। जिस प्रकार टेसू का फूल केवल दस दिनों के लिए खिलता है और फिर वह पलास के पेड़ की तरह सूखा और बेजान हो जाता है, वैसे ही मानवीय यौवन और आकर्षण क्षणभंगुर हैं।

Meaning: Kabir warns against harboring pride in one's youth and physical beauty. Just as the Tesu flower blooms for a mere ten days before the Palash tree turns dry and lifeless, the vigor and allure of human youth are fleeting and destined to fade.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि अपने सुंदर शरीर और बाहरी रूप पर कभी अहंकार न करें। जिस प्रकार एक सांप अपनी पुरानी केंचुली को त्याग देता है और फिर वह शरीर उसके किसी काम का नहीं रहता, वैसे ही यह भौतिक शरीर भी नश्वर है और अंततः आत्मा से अलग हो जाएगा।

Meaning: Kabir warns against harboring pride based on physical beauty or a youthful body. He illustrates that just as a snake sheds its skin, which then becomes useless and separated from the creature, the human body is a temporary shell that will eventually be discarded by the soul.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब संगीत वाद्ययंत्र के सभी तार टूट जाते हैं, तो वह बजना बंद कर देता है। उसी प्रकार, यह मानव शरीर और मन एक यंत्र की तरह है; जब इसे चलाने वाला परमात्मा या अंतरात्मा इस संसार से विदा हो जाती है, तो यह शरीर केवल एक मृत ढांचा रह जाता है, जिसका कोई मूल्य नहीं।

Meaning: Kabir explains that when the strings of a musical instrument snap, it ceases to produce sound. Similarly, the human body and mind are like an instrument; once the Divine Musician—the soul or the Supreme Consciousness—departs, the physical form becomes a mere lifeless shell, devoid of purpose or essence.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जो व्यक्ति आध्यात्मिक नींद में सोया हुआ है और जीवन की नश्वरता से बेखबर है, वह अंत समय में अत्यंत विवश हो जाता है। जब मृत्यु का समय निकट आता है, तो वह उसे जबरन खींच ले जाता है, ठीक उसी तरह जैसे एक कसाई किसी बकरे को उसके कान पकड़कर घसीटते हुए ले जाता है।

Meaning: Kabir warns that the heedless person, slumbering in spiritual ignorance, finds themselves utterly powerless when death arrives. When the hour of demise draws near, Time seizes the soul forcibly, dragging it away just as a butcher grips a goat by its ear to lead it to the slaughterhouse.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार हौज (तालाब) का पानी धीरे-धीरे सूखकर लुप्त हो जाता है और अंततः पूरी तरह समाप्त हो जाता है, उसी प्रकार मनुष्य का जीवन भी क्षणभंगुर है। समय का चक्र निरंतर चल रहा है, और जब मृत्यु का समय आता है, तो यह भौतिक शरीर और अस्तित्व उसी तरह विलीन हो जाते हैं जैसे पानी सूख जाता है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that just as the water in a reservoir gradually evaporates and vanishes from sight, the human life is inherently transient. The flow of time is relentless, and when the appointed hour of death arrives, the physical existence and the individual soul's earthly presence dissolve into nothingness, mirroring the disappearance of water from a drying pond.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि केवल उस निराकार परमात्मा के नाम का जाप करो और जीवन में पूर्ण सादगी और वैराग्य अपनाओ। अहंकार और बाहरी दिखावे की झूठी बड़ाई अंततः विनाश का कारण बनती है, जैसे भारी बोझ लेकर चलने वाला व्यक्ति गहरे पानी में डूब जाता है।

Meaning: Kabir advises focusing solely on the remembrance of the Divine Name and adopting a life of absolute simplicity and detachment. He warns that the burden of ego and the pursuit of worldly prestige will eventually lead to one's downfall, much like a person carrying heavy weights who sinks rapidly when crossing a river.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि अंततः शरीर का विनाश निश्चित है और मृत्यु के बाद सांसारिक पहचान और नाम की कोई सार्थकता नहीं रह जाती। मनुष्य जिस भौतिक संसार और मोह-माया के गाँव में बसने की कोशिश करता है, वह अंततः उजाड़ हो जाएगा, क्योंकि आत्मा इस नश्वर निवास को छोड़कर अनंत की ओर प्रस्थान करती है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the dissolution of the physical body is inevitable, and upon death, worldly identity and fame lose all significance. The material world and the attachments we cultivate are like a temporary village; eventually, this dwelling will be deserted as the soul departs from the transient realm toward the eternal.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि प्रत्येक मनुष्य वास्तव में भगवान नारायण का ही रूप है; तुम स्वयं को केवल हाड़-मांस का शरीर मत समझो। यदि तुम इस सत्य को गहराई से समझ लो, तो जान जाओ कि यह संपूर्ण भौतिक संसार और तुम्हारा अहंकार एक पल में राख की तरह नष्ट हो जाएगा।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that every human being is essentially a manifestation of the Divine Narayan; do not mistake your identity for merely the physical body. If one truly realizes this truth, they will understand that the entire perceived material world and the ego vanish like ash in an instant.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि हे पागल मनुष्य! तूने न तो अपनी अंतर्दृष्टि से सत्य को देखा और न ही गुरु के शब्दों को सुना। तेरे सिर के बाल सफेद हो गए हैं, अर्थात तेरी आयु बीत गई, लेकिन तू अब भी पूरी तरह अज्ञानी बना हुआ है।

Meaning: Kabir addresses the spiritually blind individual, calling them 'foolish' for failing to perceive the Truth with the inner eye or heed the sacred Word. Though the hair on their head has turned white—signifying the passage of a lifetime—they remain utterly ignorant of the divine reality.
