कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: जो व्यक्ति ईश्वर के भक्तों या समाज के वंचितों (हरिजनों) से द्वेष रखता है और केवल सांसारिक मोह-माया तथा भौतिक संबंधों में लिप्त रहता है, वह कभी आध्यात्मिक रूप से विकसित नहीं हो सकता। उसकी स्थिति उस बंजर खेत की तरह है जिसे एक अकुशल किसान ने जोता हो, जहाँ कभी कोई फल या फसल नहीं उगती।

Meaning: One who harbors resentment toward the devotees of God or the marginalized, while remaining obsessively attached to worldly desires and superficial relationships, can never achieve spiritual fruition. Such a person is likened to a barren field tended by an unskilled farmer; despite the effort, no meaningful harvest of wisdom or peace ever grows there.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यह संसार काजल की एक अंधेरी कोठरी के समान है, जहाँ अज्ञानता और मोह का गहरा कालापन व्याप्त है। वह व्यक्ति वास्तव में प्रशंसनीय और धन्य है, जो इस मायावी अंधकार को पार कर आत्म-साक्षात्कार के प्रकाश में बाहर निकलने का मार्ग खोज लेता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that this material world is akin to a small room filled with soot or kohl, where the darkness of ignorance and attachment permeates everything. Truly blessed is that seeker who manages to navigate through this illusory gloom and emerges into the radiant light of spiritual liberation.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि उन्होंने एक ऐसे मित्र को चुना है जो जल से अधिक पतला, धुएं से अधिक सूक्ष्म और पवन से भी अधिक तीव्र है। यह मित्र कोई सांसारिक व्यक्ति नहीं, बल्कि वह निराकार परमात्मा है जो सर्वव्यापी और अत्यंत सूक्ष्म है।

Meaning: Kabir proclaims that he has befriended a companion who is thinner than water, more subtle than smoke, and swifter than the wind. This friend is not a worldly entity, but the Formless Divine, which is omnipresent and infinitely subtle.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि मैं अपनी इच्छाओं और आशाओं को ही अग्नि का ईंधन बना रहा हूँ और अपनी मानसिक कामनाओं को ही भस्म (विभूति) के रूप में धारण कर रहा हूँ। जिस प्रकार एक योगी संसार का त्याग कर घूमता है, मैं अपनी आंतरिक यात्रा के माध्यम से अपनी वासनाओं को जलाकर आत्मा के शुद्ध सूत को अलग कर रहा हूँ।

Meaning: Kabir declares that he uses his desires and hopes as fuel for the internal fire of consciousness, turning his mental cravings into sacred ash. Like a wandering yogi, he engages in a spiritual process of spinning and weaving, separating the pure thread of the soul from the coarse fabric of worldly attachment.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि साकार रूप (ईश्वर के गुणों और रूपों) की सेवा और भक्ति करें, लेकिन साथ ही निराकार (गुणरहित, अनंत) तत्व का ज्ञान प्राप्त करें। वास्तव में, वह निराकार तत्व साकार की सीमाओं से परे है, और कबीर का ध्यान उसी परम शून्य या अनंत चेतना में केंद्रित है।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that one should engage in the service of the Saguna (the manifest, form-based aspect of the Divine) while simultaneously seeking the knowledge of the Nirguna (the unmanifest, formless Absolute). He asserts that the Nirguna transcends all forms and attributes, and it is in that formless void that his own consciousness is anchored.

अर्थ: इस दोहे में कबीर बाहरी शोर और आंतरिक शांति के विरोधाभास को दर्शाते हैं। बादल गरज रहे हैं और बिजली चमक रही है, लेकिन बारिश की बूंदें केवल छिटपुट हैं। फिर भी, उस छोटे से तालाब में कमल खिलते हैं और सूर्य का प्रकाश प्रकट होता है, जो यह बताता है कि बाहरी उथल-पुथल के बीच भी आत्मा की जागृति संभव है।

Meaning: In this couplet, Kabir depicts the paradox between external turmoil and internal stillness. While clouds thunder and lightning flashes, the rain falls only in sparse droplets. Yet, within that small pond, lotuses bloom and the sun reveals itself, signifying that spiritual awakening is possible even amidst the chaos of the material world.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मोक्ष के लिए काशी या मगहर जैसे स्थानों का कोई महत्व नहीं है। यदि परमात्मा मेरे हृदय के भीतर निवास करता है, तो मुझे किसी बाहरी तीर्थ की आवश्यकता नहीं है। यदि मैं काशी में शरीर त्यागता हूँ या मगहर में, इससे कोई अंतर नहीं पड़ता क्योंकि ईश्वर हर जगह व्याप्त है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that sacred cities like Kashi or the desolate lands of Maghar hold no inherent power over salvation. Since the Divine resides within the sanctuary of the heart, external pilgrimages are redundant. Whether one breathes their last in the holy city of Kashi or the shunned soil of Maghar, it matters not, for the Eternal is omnipresent.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब मनुष्य प्रेम के प्याले को अपने भीतर पूरी तरह आत्मसात कर लेता है, तो वह ईश्वरीय प्रेम में इस कदर डूब जाता है कि उसके शरीर के प्रत्येक रोम में वह परमात्मा समा जाता है। ऐसी अवस्था में उसे किसी अन्य बाहरी कर्मकांड या सांसारिक आडंबर की आवश्यकता नहीं रह जाती।

Meaning: Kabir proclaims that once a seeker drinks the cup of divine love and internalizes it completely, the essence of that love permeates every single pore of their being. In this state of total immersion, the need for external rituals or worldly pursuits vanishes, as the soul is saturated with the Absolute.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मैं अपने प्रियतम (ईश्वर) के लिए पत्र लिखना चाहता हूँ, यदि वह किसी दूर देश में होते। परंतु सत्य यह है कि वह परमात्मा मेरे शरीर, मेरे मन और मेरी आँखों में ही व्याप्त हैं; जब वह सर्वव्यापी हैं, तो उन्हें संदेश भेजने की क्या आवश्यकता है?

Meaning: Kabir questions the need to write letters to his Beloved (the Divine) as if the Beloved were in a distant land. He realizes that the Divine is already present within his body, his mind, and his very sight; since the Beloved is omnipresent and immanent, the act of sending a message is redundant.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि अपने मन के अहंकार और वासनाओं को पूरी तरह नष्ट कर दो, क्योंकि जब तक मन के टुकड़े नहीं होंगे, सत्य का उदय नहीं होगा। यदि आपने अपने जीवन में विष रूपी द्वेष और मोह की क्यारियाँ बोई हैं, तो अब फसल काटते समय पछताने का कोई लाभ नहीं है।

Meaning: Kabir exhorts the seeker to decisively shatter the ego and the fragmented desires of the mind. He warns that if one has spent their life cultivating a garden of poison—meaning hatred, greed, and attachment—it is futile to lament the bitter harvest when the time of reckoning arrives.
