कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: यह संसार एक काजल की कोठरी के समान है, जहाँ चारों ओर अंधकार और मोह-माया का घेरा है। कबीर कहते हैं कि वह भक्त वास्तव में धन्य है जो इस बाहरी अंधकार और सांसारिक भ्रमों के बीच भी केवल उस निराकार परमात्मा (राम) की शरण और सुरक्षा में रहता है।

Meaning: This world is like a room filled with soot, where darkness and illusion surround the soul from every side. Kabir declares that the devotee who finds sanctuary and protection under the shelter of the Formless Divine (Ram) is truly blessed, remaining untouched by the surrounding gloom.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि सच्ची भक्ति उस अत्यंत शुद्ध और कीमती वस्त्र की तरह है जिसमें कोई भी मैल या अशुद्धि नहीं टिक सकती। यदि कोई व्यक्ति बाहरी दिखावे के लिए गंदी या काली चटाई (कांवली) बिछाता है, तो वह उस आंतरिक पवित्रता को प्राप्त नहीं कर सकता जो केवल निश्छल प्रेम और समर्पण से आती है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that true devotion is like a priceless, pristine cloth that cannot harbor any stain of impurity. If one relies on external rituals or spreads a soiled mat of hypocrisy, they cannot attain that inner purity which is accessible only through selfless love and absolute surrender to the Divine.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि लोग पत्थर की मूर्तियों को ही ईश्वर मानकर उनकी पूजा करते हैं। यदि मनुष्य केवल इसी बाहरी आडंबर और विश्वास के सहारे रहे कि पत्थर की मूर्ति उसे मोक्ष दिला देगी, तो वह जीवन की कठिन परिस्थितियों और अज्ञानता की गहरी काली धारा में डूब जाएगा।

Meaning: Kabir observes that people carve idols from stone and worship them as the Creator. He warns that those who place their entire faith in these external rituals and material forms, believing them to be the ultimate truth, will inevitably drown in the dark currents of ignorance and spiritual blindness.

Kabir describes the world as a room smeared with soot, where vision is obscured, and the doors are sealed shut by the ink of our own deeds. While the seeker attempts to find a way out, even the learned scholars find themselves stranded, unable to navigate the darkness of this illusory prison.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि उस पत्थर की पूजा करने का क्या लाभ जो स्वयं निर्जीव है और जिसने कभी जीवन नहीं दिया? यह वैसा ही है जैसे कोई अंधा व्यक्ति किसी झूठी आशा या भ्रम के पीछे भागकर अपना कीमती समय और जीवन व्यर्थ गँवा देता है।

Meaning: Kabir questions the utility of worshipping a stone that is lifeless and incapable of granting birth or liberation. He likens such ritualistic devotion to a blind man chasing a mirage or a false hope, ultimately wasting the precious opportunity of human existence.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मैं भी पहले पत्थर की मूर्तियों की पूजा करता था और अंधविश्वासों के बोझ तले दबा हुआ था। लेकिन जब मुझे सच्चे गुरु का ज्ञान प्राप्त हुआ, तब मुझे समझ आया कि ईश्वर पत्थर में नहीं बल्कि भीतर है, और मैंने बाहरी आडंबरों के इस भारी बोझ को उतार फेंका।

Meaning: Kabir confesses that he too once spent his life worshipping stone idols, burdened by the weight of ritualistic blindness. However, upon receiving the grace of a True Guru, he realized that the Divine resides within, allowing him to cast off the heavy psychological and spiritual burden of external formalities.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जहाँ तक मैं अपनी आत्मा का विस्तार देखता हूँ, वहीं मुझे साक्षात सालिग्राम (ईश्वर) के दर्शन होते हैं। जब ईश्वर स्वयं मनुष्य के रूप में जीवित शरीर में विद्यमान है, तो पत्थर की मूर्तियों की पूजा करने की कोई आवश्यकता नहीं है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that wherever he perceives the expanse of the soul, there he finds the Saligram (the divine stone/God). Since the Divine is directly present within the living body of a realized soul, there is no longer any need to seek God in inanimate stones or idols.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि लोग बाहरी मूर्तियों और सालिग्राम की पूजा में लीन रहते हैं, परंतु इससे उनके मन का भ्रम और अज्ञान दूर नहीं होता। जिस प्रकार केवल सपने देखने से प्यास नहीं बुझती या शीतलता नहीं मिलती, वैसे ही कर्मकांडों से मानसिक शांति नहीं मिलती, बल्कि समय के साथ मोह और अज्ञान और अधिक बढ़ता जाता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that those who devote themselves to the ritualistic worship of idols like the Saligram fail to eradicate the delusions of the mind. Just as dreaming of coolness does not provide actual relief from the heat, external rituals do not grant inner peace; instead, they often deepen the practitioner's attachment to illusion and ignorance over time.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि बाहरी जप, तप, तीर्थयात्रा और व्रत अब केवल खोखले दिखावे बन गए हैं। लोग केवल परंपराओं का पालन कर रहे हैं, लेकिन उनके भीतर वास्तविक आध्यात्मिक जागृति नहीं है। इस प्रकार, मनुष्य केवल बाहरी कर्मकांडों में उलझा रहता है और अंततः जीवन में निराशा और खालीपन का अनुभव करता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that external chanting, austerities, pilgrimages, and ritual fasts have become hollow shells of devotion.
