कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मनुष्य ने अपनी आध्यात्मिक पूंजी और अंतरात्मा की शुद्धता रूपी कीमती गुदड़ी को भुला दिया है। उसने सांसारिक मोह-माया के बदले अपनी आत्मा का सौदा कर लिया। अब उसके पास केवल अहंकार और अज्ञान की खोटा सामान वाली पोटली बची है, जिससे जीवन के अंत में कोई वास्तविक लाभ प्राप्त नहीं होगा।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that humans have forgotten the precious 'quilt' of spiritual awareness and inner purity. In a misguided trade, they have bartered their eternal soul for the fleeting illusions of the material world. Now, they are left with a bundle of worthless ego and ignorance, which offers no true value or liberation at the final hour of existence.

अर्थ: संसार में ईश्वरीय ज्ञान और सत्य के मोती बिखरे हुए हैं, परंतु मनुष्य अज्ञानता के अंधेपन के कारण उन्हें देख नहीं पाता। बिना परमात्मा की आंतरिक ज्योति या आत्म-ज्ञान के, इस मायावी संसार के बंधनों को पार करना और वास्तविक मुक्ति प्राप्त करना असंभव है।

Meaning: The pearls of divine truth and spiritual wisdom are scattered everywhere in the world, yet humanity remains blind to them due to ignorance. Without the illuminating light of the Divine or the awakening of the inner soul, one cannot transcend the illusions of this material existence to achieve liberation.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यह संसार एक अंधी गाय के समान है। जिस प्रकार एक अंधी गाय का बछड़ा मर चुका होता है, फिर भी वह ममतावश शून्य में अपना दूध बहाती रहती है और व्यर्थ में चाटती रहती है, वैसे ही मनुष्य इस नश्वर संसार के मोह में फँसा हुआ है, जबकि वास्तविक सत्य उसके सामने होते हुए भी वह उसे देख नहीं पा रहा है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that this world is like a blind cow. Just as a blind cow continues to long for and lick the air in a futile attempt to nurture its calf even after the calf has died, humanity remains trapped in the delusions of this transient world, desperately clinging to illusions while remaining oblivious to the eternal truth that resides within.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि एक छोटा सा चंदन का टुकड़ा उस विशाल जंगल से बेहतर है जहाँ केवल भ्रम और शोर हो। उसी प्रकार, एक सच्चे भक्त की छोटी सी झोपड़ी उस बड़े शहर या गाँव से कहीं अधिक मूल्यवान है जहाँ केवल दिखावा और पाखंड का वास हो।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a small piece of fragrant sandalwood is far superior to a vast, scentless forest. Similarly, the humble hut of a true devotee, filled with genuine spiritual presence, is infinitely more valuable than a grand city or village inhabited by hypocrites and those obsessed with outward ritualism.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब आत्मा का आंतरिक घर (हृदय) पूरी तरह शुद्ध और व्यवस्थित हो जाता है, तो वहाँ परमानंद का वास होता है। वह परमात्मा, जो वास्तव में सबका प्रेमी है, बाहरी शोर और दिखावे से परे है। हे भाई, जो लोग केवल बाहरी कर्मकांडों में उलझे हैं, वे वास्तव में आध्यात्मिक रूप से बंजर या उजाड़ हैं।

Meaning: Kabir explains that when the internal dwelling of the soul (the heart) becomes completely purified and aligned, eternal bliss resides there. The Divine Beloved, though seemingly distant or 'deaf' to external pleas, is actually beyond the noise of ritual. Those who seek God only through outward displays remain spiritually desolate, like a wasteland, missing the internal sanctuary.

अर्थ: जिस घर में सज्जन व्यक्तियों, संतों या सत्य के खोजी का सम्मान नहीं किया जाता और जहाँ ईश्वर की निस्वार्थ सेवा या स्मरण का अभाव होता है, वह घर वास्तव में मूर्खता से भरा होता है। ऐसा घर आध्यात्मिक रूप से मृत है, जहाँ अज्ञानता और नकारात्मक ऊर्जाओं का वास होता है, जिसे कबीर ने 'भूत' के वास के रूप में वर्णित किया है।

Meaning: In a household where the virtuous, the seekers of truth, or the saints are not honored, and where the selfless service or remembrance of the Divine is absent, that home is governed by folly. Such a dwelling is spiritually desolate, inhabited by ignorance and negative energies, which Kabir metaphorically describes as being haunted by ghosts.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि चाहे कोई व्यक्ति घने बादलों जैसे वैभवशाली महलों में रहे, जहाँ राजसी छत्र और ध्वजाएँ फहराती हों, वह सुख उस आध्यात्मिक आनंद के सामने तुच्छ है जो ईश्वर के निरंतर स्मरण और भक्ति से प्राप्त होता है। सांसारिक विलासिता क्षणभंगुर है, जबकि हरि का नाम शाश्वत शांति देता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that even if one resides in the dense, cloud-like luxury of royal palaces where ceremonial umbrellas and flags fly high, such worldly pleasure is insignificant compared to the bliss derived from the constant remembrance of the Divine. Material opulence is fleeting, whereas the meditation on the Formless One provides eternal peace.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी पूछते हैं कि राजमहल की विलासी स्त्रियाँ उस साधारण पानी भरने वाली स्त्री (पनिहारी) की निंदा क्यों करती हैं और उसे तुच्छ क्यों मानती हैं? वह पनिहारी अपने पति के प्रेम में अपनी माँग सजाती है और निरंतर ईश्वर (राम) का स्मरण करती रहती है, जो उसे वास्तविक आध्यात्मिक समृद्धि प्रदान करता है।

Meaning: Kabir questions why the opulent women of the royal court despise and belittle the simple water-carrier. While the royal women possess worldly luxury, the water-carrier adorns her life with the love of her beloved and spends her every waking moment in the remembrance of the Divine, achieving a spiritual richness that gold cannot buy.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वह स्त्री वास्तव में सुंदर और धन्य है जिसने एक ऐसे पुत्र को जन्म दिया जो सांसारिक मोह-माया से मुक्त है। वह व्यक्ति जिसने राम (परमात्मा) का स्मरण कर अपने भीतर के अहंकार और भय को समाप्त कर लिया है, वह वास्तव में जागृत है, जबकि शेष संसार अज्ञान की नींद में सोया हुआ है।

Meaning: Kabir declares that the truly beautiful and blessed woman is she who gives birth to a soul liberated from worldly attachments. The one who, through the remembrance of the Divine (Ram), has dissolved fear and ego, has awakened to the truth, while the rest of the world remains adrift in the slumber of ignorance.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि वह कुल या वंश वास्तव में श्रेष्ठ है, जिसमें किसी ऐसे व्यक्ति का जन्म हो जो ईश्वर का सच्चा सेवक (दास) बन सके। जिस कुल में आध्यात्मिक जागृति या निस्वार्थ समर्पण वाला व्यक्ति पैदा नहीं होता, वह कुल आक और पलास के वृक्षों के समान व्यर्थ और निष्फल है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a lineage or family is truly noble only if it produces a 'daas'—a servant of the Divine or a seeker of truth. A family that fails to nurture a soul capable of spiritual surrender and self-realization is as useless and devoid of spiritual fruit as the Aak and Palash trees, which provide no shade or sustenance.
