कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: एक विरहिणी अपने प्रिय की प्रतीक्षा में रास्ते के किनारे खड़ी है। जब कोई राहगीर वहाँ से गुजरता है, तो वह दौड़कर उसके पास जाती है और केवल एक शब्द में अपने प्रिय के बारे में पूछती है कि वह वापस कब आएंगे। यह आत्मा की परमात्मा के लिए तीव्र तड़प को दर्शाता है।

Meaning: A longing soul stands at the edge of the path, waiting for her beloved. When a traveler passes by, she rushes toward them, asking in a single, desperate word about her Beloved: "When will He return?" This depicts the intense, agonizing yearning of the individual soul for its divine source.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि हे राम, मैं बहुत लंबे समय से तुम्हारी प्रतीक्षा कर रहा हूँ। मेरा अंतर्मन और मेरी आत्मा तुमसे मिलने के लिए व्याकुल है, और जब तक यह मिलन नहीं हो जाता, मेरे मन को कोई शांति या विश्राम नहीं मिल रहा है।

Meaning: Kabir expresses a profound, enduring longing for the Divine. He states that he has waited for an eternity for the arrival of the Beloved (Ram), and his soul yearns with an intense thirst for union, leaving the mind in a state of perpetual restlessness until that spiritual merger occurs.

अर्थ: यह दोहा विरह की उस तीव्र अवस्था का वर्णन करता है जहाँ साधक ईश्वर के दर्शन के लिए व्याकुल है। कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि परमात्मा का साक्षात्कार मृत्यु के पश्चात होता है, तो उस दर्शन का कोई मूल्य नहीं है; वास्तविक उपलब्धि वर्तमान जीवन में जीवित रहते हुए उस परम सत्य का अनुभव करना है।

Meaning: This couplet describes the intense state of longing where the seeker is desperate for a vision of the Divine. Kabir asserts that if the realization of the Truth occurs only after death, such a vision is useless; the only meaningful achievement is the experiential realization of the Supreme Truth while still alive in this physical body.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि आप मृत्यु के बाद ईश्वर या सत्य से मिलने की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं, तो यह व्यर्थ है। जिस प्रकार पारस पत्थर लोहे को सोना बनाने की क्षमता रखता है, लेकिन यदि वह लोहे के संपर्क में न आए तो उसका कोई मूल्य नहीं, वैसे ही आध्यात्मिक जागृति इसी जीवन में होनी चाहिए। मृत्यु के बाद का प्रयास निरर्थक है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that waiting to unite with the Divine or Truth after death is a futile endeavor. Just as the mythical Paras stone possesses the power to transmute iron into gold, its existence is meaningless if it never touches the iron. Similarly, spiritual awakening must occur in the present living moment; seeking liberation only after the body perishes is a wasted opportunity.

अर्थ: यह विरह की व्याकुलता और तड़प किसी संदेश से कम नहीं होगी। चाहे यह संदेश आए कि ईश्वर (हरि) स्वयं लौट आए हैं, या यह खबर मिले कि आत्मा अंततः हरि के पास ही चली गई है; दोनों ही स्थितियों में यह मिलन की तीव्र इच्छा और विरह का अंत केवल पूर्ण विलय से ही संभव है।

Meaning: The profound agony of separation and the restless longing of the soul cannot be appeased by mere messages or news. Whether the message declares that the Divine (Hari) has returned to the seeker, or that the seeker has finally departed to be with the Divine, the intense yearning only ceases upon the actual, absolute union of the two.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी इस दोहे में परमात्मा के प्रति अपनी तीव्र विरह वेदना व्यक्त कर रहे हैं। वे कहते हैं कि मैं न तो स्वयं तुम्हारे पास पहुँच पा रहा हूँ और न ही तुम्हें पुकार कर बुला पा रहा हूँ। हे प्रभु, क्या तुम मेरी इस आत्मा को विरह की अग्नि में धीरे-धीरे जलाकर ही प्राप्त करोगे?

Meaning: Kabir expresses an intense longing for the Divine, describing a state of spiritual helplessness. He laments that he can neither reach the Beloved nor summon the Beloved to him. He asks if the Divine intends to claim his soul only after it has been completely purified and consumed by the searing fire of separation.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मैं इस अहंकारपूर्ण शरीर को जलाकर राख कर देना चाहता हूँ, ताकि उसकी राख और धुआँ आकाश की ऊँचाइयों तक पहुँच जाए। वे प्रार्थना करते हैं कि परमात्मा की दया बरसें और इस आंतरिक अहंकार की अग्नि को शांत कर दे, जिससे केवल शुद्ध आत्मा शेष रहे।

Meaning: Kabir expresses a profound desire to incinerate the ego-driven physical identity, reducing it to ashes so that the remnants may ascend toward the divine. He pleads for the grace of the Formless Lord to descend as a cooling rain, extinguishing the scorching fire of worldly attachment and pride.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि मैं अपने इस भौतिक शरीर को जलाकर उसकी स्याही बना लूँ और अपनी हड्डियों की कलम से ईश्वर (राम) का नाम लिखूँ। यह इस बात का प्रतीक है कि जब तक संपूर्ण अहंकार और शारीरिक आसक्ति पूरी तरह नष्ट नहीं हो जाती, तब तक परमात्मा का वास्तविक साक्षात्कार संभव नहीं है।

Meaning: Kabir declares his intent to burn his physical body to create ink and use his own bones as a pen to write the name of the Divine (Ram). This is a powerful metaphor signifying that only through the total annihilation of the ego and the complete surrender of the physical self can one truly communicate with or reach the Ultimate Truth.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि शारीरिक पीड़ा और दर्द तो सहनीय होते हैं और समय के साथ शरीर से निकल जाते हैं, लेकिन प्रेम की जो पीड़ा है, वह अत्यंत गहरी होती है। यह विरह की वेदना आत्मा के भीतर समा जाती है और हृदय को पूरी तरह से घेर लेती है, जिसे मिटाना असंभव है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that physical pain and bodily ailments are transient and can be endured or cured as they affect only the skeletal frame. However, the agony of divine love and longing is an entirely different dimension of suffering. This spiritual ache permeates the very core of one's being, enveloping the heart in a persistent, transformative longing.

अर्थ: विरह की यह चोट इतनी गहरी और कष्टदायक है कि इसने पूरे शरीर को जर्जर और कमजोर कर दिया है। अब यह प्रश्न उठता है कि इस पीड़ा को वास्तव में कौन समझ सकता है—वह जिसने यह घाव दिया है (ईश्वर/परमात्मा) या वह जिसे यह विरह की चोट लगी है (साधक/भक्त)?

Meaning: The wound of separation from the Divine is so excruciating that it has left the entire physical and spiritual being withered and frail. The central question arises: who truly comprehends the magnitude of this agony—the one who inflicts the separation (the Divine) or the one who suffers the longing (the devotee)?
