कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि हमें कभी भी उस छोटे से तिनके की निंदा या उपेक्षा नहीं करनी चाहिए जो हमारे पैरों के नीचे दबा हो और हमें तुच्छ प्रतीत होता हो। क्योंकि यदि वही छोटा सा तिनका हवा के झोंके से उड़कर हमारी आँख में गिर जाए, तो वह असहनीय पीड़ा का कारण बनता है।

Meaning: Kabir advises against the belittlement or disdain of a tiny straw that lies beneath one's feet, seemingly insignificant and powerless. He warns that the very same straw, if carried by the wind into one's eye, can cause immense and piercing pain, proving that size does not dictate significance.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि अपनी आलोचना करने वाले व्यक्ति को हमेशा अपने पास रखना चाहिए, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे हम अपने घर के आँगन में एक छोटी कुटिया बनाकर किसी को ठहराते हैं। क्योंकि एक निंदक बिना साबुन और पानी के, केवल अपनी सच्ची आलोचना के माध्यम से हमारे स्वभाव और चरित्र की अशुद्धियों को साफ कर देता है।

Meaning: Kabir suggests that one should keep their critics close, perhaps even providing them a shelter in one's own courtyard. The wisdom lies in the fact that a critic cleanses our inner nature and character of its impurities without the need for physical soap or water, simply through the mirror of their honest, albeit harsh, feedback.

अर्थ: जो लोग आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान से वंचित हैं, वे दूसरों की आलोचना और निंदा में अपना समय व्यर्थ गँवाते हैं। इसके विपरीत, जो व्यक्ति परमात्मा के नाम और उसकी स्मृति में लीन रहता है, उसे संसार की व्यर्थ बातों या दूसरों की बुराई करने में कोई रुचि नहीं रहती।

Meaning: Those who lack true spiritual wisdom spend their lives criticizing and mocking others. However, one who is deeply immersed in the divine name and constant remembrance of the Eternal remains indifferent to the trivialities of worldly gossip and the urge to disparage others.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि अब मुझे उस परम सत्य या सद्गुरु की प्राप्ति हो जाए, तो मैं अपने जीवन के समस्त संचित दुखों और पीड़ाओं को उनके चरणों में समर्पित कर फूट-फूट कर रो दूंगा। मैं अपना सिर उनके चरणों में झुकाकर वह सब कुछ कह देना चाहता हूँ जो अब तक मेरे हृदय में दबा रहा है और जिसे मैं किसी और से नहीं कह सका।

Meaning: Kabir expresses a profound longing for the Divine or a true spiritual guide. He suggests that upon finding this ultimate Presence, he would release all his accumulated sorrows through tears of surrender. By bowing his head at the feet of the Master, he wishes to pour out every unspoken grief and secret longing that has burdened his soul in solitude.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार बिना अनाज के ओखली पीटने से कुछ प्राप्त नहीं होता, उसी प्रकार बिना कर्म और साधना के केवल किताबी ज्ञान व्यर्थ है। यह वैसा ही है जैसे बिना गोली के बंदूक चलाना, जिससे कोई लक्ष्य प्राप्त नहीं किया जा सकता और न ही कोई प्रभाव पड़ता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that just as pounding a mortar without grain yields no flour, spiritual knowledge without practical application and disciplined action is futile. He likens this to firing a gun without a bullet; though the noise and gesture exist, there is no impact and no target is ever hit.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि यदि आपका मन स्थिर और एकाग्र नहीं है, तो ज्ञान की बातें सुनना व्यर्थ है। यह वैसा ही है जैसे कोई अनाज के दाने को छिलके के बाहर ही कूटता रहे; अंत में उसे खाने योग्य कुछ भी हाथ नहीं आता।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that if the mind is not centered and stabilized, listening to spiritual wisdom is futile. It is akin to pounding a grain of corn from the outside of its husk; despite the effort, nothing nourishing or useful is ever obtained.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी इस दोहे में उन लोगों पर कटाक्ष कर रहे हैं जो बाहरी दिखावे और कठोर अनुष्ठानों में फंसे हैं। वे कहते हैं कि साधक अपनी साधना के अहंकार में इतना क्रोधित और हठी हो गया है कि वह उस सत्य को नहीं पहचान पा रहा जो उसके सामने है। वह उस जल को पीने से इनकार करता है जिसे उसने स्वयं उबाला है, क्योंकि वह केवल प्रक्रिया के बाहरी स्वरूप से चिपका है, उसके वास्तविक सार या लाभ से नहीं।

Meaning: Kabir satirizes those trapped in external displays and rigid rituals. He observes that the seeker, blinded by the arrogance of their own spiritual discipline, has become resentful and stubborn. They refuse to drink the water they have painstakingly boiled, failing to realize that the purpose of the process was the result. They are so obsessed with the ritual of 'boiling' that they forget the actual goal: quenching the thirst with the purified essence.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि इस संसार में केवल शब्दों का आडंबर या बड़ी-बड़ी बातें करना व्यर्थ और खोखला है। वास्तविक मूल्य केवल कर्मों का होता है। जिस प्रकार केवल भोजन की चर्चा करने से भूख नहीं मिटती, उसी प्रकार केवल आध्यात्मिक बातें करने से मोक्ष नहीं मिलता; केवल सत्कर्म ही जीवन की वास्तविक बाधाओं को पार करा सकते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that in this world, mere words and grand proclamations are hollow and devoid of substance. The true essence of a human being lies in their actions. Just as discussing the quality of food cannot satisfy a starving stomach, talking about spirituality without practicing it cannot lead to liberation; only righteous action allows one to cross the ocean of existence.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि बहुत से लोग अपनी बातों में तो बहुत मीठे होते हैं, जैसे कि चीनी या खांड, लेकिन उनके कार्य और व्यवहार विष के समान हानिकारक और कड़वे होते हैं। यदि मनुष्य अपनी वाणी की मिठास को अपने कर्मों में उतार ले, तो उसके जीवन का विष अमृत में बदल जाएगा।

Meaning: Kabir observes that many people possess speech as sweet as crystallized sugar, yet their actions remain as poisonous as venom. He asserts that if one can align their conduct with the sweetness of their words, the inherent poison of their existence will be transmuted into the nectar of spiritual liberation.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि केवल किताबी ज्ञान पढ़ने और दूसरों को समझाने से कुछ हासिल नहीं होता यदि मन में धैर्य और स्थिरता न हो। जब जीवन में बुनियादी अस्तित्व की लड़ाई, जैसे रोटी की चिंता (भौतिक अभाव), सामने आती है, तब केवल बौद्धिक ज्ञान काम नहीं आता; वास्तविक शांति आंतरिक स्थिरता से ही मिलती है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that mere academic learning and the act of lecturing others are futile if the mind lacks patience and steadfastness. When one is confronted by the primal struggle for survival—symbolized by the anxiety over one's daily bread—intellectual knowledge proves insufficient; true liberation comes only through internal stability and spiritual grounding.
