(Meditation) — Kabir Dohas

Meaning: Kabir suggests that the remembrance of the Divine should be as intense and unwavering as the obsession of a lustful person for their desire. Just as a lover cannot forget their beloved for a single moment, a seeker must remain immersed in the consciousness of the Eternal throughout the day and night, across every single watch of the clock.

Meaning: Kabir suggests that the mindfulness of divine remembrance should be like a woman carrying a water pot on her head. Just as she remains perpetually alert and balanced to prevent the pot from slipping while she walks, a seeker must maintain a constant, unwavering awareness of the Divine within their consciousness.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that instead of seeking the Divine in external rituals or distant lands, one must look within. The Creator resides within the vessel of your own heart. By turning your consciousness inward, you discover the infinite treasury of spiritual sound and divine wisdom residing in the depths of your own being.

Meaning: Kabir proclaims the supreme glory of the 'Shabd' (the Divine Word or Inner Sound), comparing its power to that of a magnet. Just as a magnet irresistibly draws iron, the Shabd pulls the soul toward the Divine. He asserts that without the realization of this inner vibration, no amount of external rituals, intellectual gymnastics, or worldly efforts can liberate a human from the cycle of existence.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that one who attains the Divine Word (the unstruck sound) and maintains a constant, unwavering awareness of it, successfully reaches the celestial court of the Absolute. There, the seeker discovers their true essence—the eternal Soul—which has always resided in that sacred presence.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that when the five senses and the sixth element—the mind—are brought into perfect equilibrium and aligned with the Eternal Truth, the seeker transcends worldly turbulence. In this state of profound integration, the external world loses its power to disturb, as the 'seven knots' of ego, attachment, and ignorance are untied, leading to absolute liberation and inner stillness.

Meaning: Kabir suggests that the restless mind can be rendered still through the persistent practice of remembering the Divine Name. When an individual successfully brings both the physical body and the mental faculty under conscious spiritual control, they attain an eternal state of being that is beyond loss or decay.

Meaning: Until the restless desires and fluctuations of the mind cease to exist, a different, higher state of consciousness cannot emerge. Only when the mind becomes absolutely still and motionless does the seeker finally find their true spiritual abode or the ultimate destination of the soul.

Meaning: Kabir observes that just as the ocean is characterized by endless, undulating waves, the human mind is plagued by constant fluctuations of desire and thought. However, when this restless mind finally finds its center and attains stillness, the diamond of spiritual enlightenment emerges naturally and effortlessly.

Meaning: Kabir explains that the spiritual state is profoundly paradoxical and elusive, defying immediate comprehension by the rational mind. Only when the internal turbulence, mental noise, and emotional conflicts of the mind are silenced does the seeker attain a state of equilibrium and stillness, merging with the ultimate void.
