Meaning: The pangs of divine love are perceived by the worldly as mere suffering or misery. However, for the seeker, this agony is a sacred longing for the Beloved (the Divine). It is the soul's intense yearning to merge back into its original source, transforming pain into a spiritual catalyst.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that only those tears are authentic which spring from the profound longing of the soul and incinerate the illusory bonds of the worldly existence. If the intensity of love reaches such a peak that blood flows instead of water from the eyes, only then can it be acknowledged that true, selfless devotion resides within the heart.

Meaning: Kabir suggests casting aside superficial laughter and worldly mirth to immerse the consciousness in the tears of longing and deep introspection. He asserts that without this profound yearning and the sorrow of separation, one cannot attain the beloved Friend, the Divine Love.

Meaning: Kabir explains that outward weeping depletes one's inner strength, while outward laughter or arrogance displeases the Divine. The true spiritual struggle and the agony of separation reside silently within the heart, acting like a wood-borer (ghun) that hollows out a piece of timber from the inside, leaving the exterior seemingly intact while the core is consumed.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the Divine Beloved cannot be attained through superficial laughter or mere outward cheerfulness. Those who have truly realized the Truth have done so through the crucible of longing and the purifying tears of separation. If the Divine were accessible through simple happiness or laughter, no soul would ever endure the agony of yearning, and no one would be considered bereaved or separated from the Source.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that if the Divine could be attained through mere laughter, superficial play, or outward rituals, then no one would endure the rigorous struggle of spiritual discipline. True realization of God is reserved only for those who have completely renounced lust, anger, and insatiable desire, purifying the soul from within.

Meaning: A father cherished his daughter deeply. However, lured by the promise of sweets, the daughter rushed forward in greed. In her intense craving for the sugary treat, she completely forgot the father who provided it and the love he held for her. This verse serves as a metaphor for the soul's tendency to forget its divine origin while chasing transient worldly pleasures.

Meaning: Kabir explains that as long as a person rejects the truth due to ego and inner anger, they remain trapped in the agony of separation. However, when the ego dissolves into tears of genuine longing and surrender, the soul finally reunites with the Divine Father, the Beloved Source of all existence.

Meaning: Kabir pleads with the Divine to manifest not before the physical eyes, but within the inner vision of the heart. He expresses a profound longing to behold the Formless One day and night, yearning for that transformative moment of divine revelation when the veil of separation finally lifts.

Meaning: Kabir observes that time is slipping away relentlessly—the day has vanished, and the night too is passing. The soul, like a longing bride separated from her beloved (the Divine), remains unable to find her lover, while the heart continues to burn in the agony of separation.
