Meaning: Kabir asserts that human speech has become superficial and hollow, while their actual deeds lack any essence or truth. Both the speaker and the listener have succumbed to a spiritual death by remaining ignorant of the True Self, leading to an infinite proliferation of foolishness and intellectual vanity in the world.

Meaning: Kabir urges the seeker to abandon the vanity of mere words and verbal assertions, directing their consciousness instead toward actual practice and action. He illustrates this with a powerful analogy: just as talking about water cannot quench a physical thirst—only the actual act of drinking water can—similarly, spiritual liberation cannot be achieved through theoretical discourse; it requires the lived experience of truth and the alignment of action with intention.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that mere verbal proclamations of truth are futile if they are not anchored in action. Just as a fortress made of unstable mud or weak materials collapses at the first sign of a storm, a spiritual identity built solely on words, without the foundation of lived practice, crumbles instantly when tested by reality or divine truth.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that people manipulate scriptures and spiritual discourses, cutting and pasting words here and there to suit their own convenience. He questions how long one can survive on such intellectual hypocrisy and the 'leavings' of others' knowledge. He warns that relying on superficial scholarship rather than direct experience is like licking a dirty plate—unsatisfying and degrading.

Meaning: Kabir observes that the world is crowded with 'warriors of words'—those who boast of spiritual knowledge but possess only hollow arrows of rhetoric. In stark contrast, those who have been struck by the arrow of longing (Viraha) for the Divine are physically and mentally consumed by that yearning, proving that true realization comes not from scholarly discourse, but from the agonizing ache of separation from the Source.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that people often wander in the vanity of mere words and superficial rhetoric, while true utterance comes only from lived experience. One who fails to grasp the essence of inner feeling (Bhaav) and true devotion (Bhakti) remains spiritually blind and ignorant, regardless of their intellectual or academic achievements.

Meaning: Kabir highlights the profound hypocrisy of the human condition where an individual fails to secure basic peace and stability for themselves, yet presumes to offer the 'milk' of wisdom and generosity to others. While they instruct the world to be patient and steadfast, their own internal state remains chaotic and unsettled.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that intellectual cleverness and academic knowledge are useless, akin to ashes in a hearth. Without the presence of genuine love and heartfelt devotion, scholarly pride is a hollow shell that fails to lead to liberation, eventually vanishing as a mere illusion of wisdom.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that only genuine action can dissolve the ego, whereas the selfish person who merely desires liberation remains in a state of spiritual slumber. When an individual abandons the habit of mere speech and theoretical preaching to embrace actual practice and righteous conduct, they truly attain liberation and become a liberated soul.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that as long as the listener and the speaker remain separate entities, conflict and misunderstanding persist. However, when the listener and the speaker merge into a single house of consciousness, the true essence and sweetness of the word are realized.
