Meaning: Kabir asserts that everything in existence is achieved through diligent effort and hard work; nothing is granted without labor. Just as a straight finger cannot scoop out solidified ghee from a narrow jar, success and spiritual liberation cannot be attained without strategic effort and persistent exertion.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a person who speaks of righteousness and virtue but whose actions are contradictory to their words is not truly human. Such a hypocrite possesses the consciousness of a dog—driven by instinct and lack of integrity—and is ultimately bound for the sufferings of the underworld (Jampur).

Meaning: Kabir asserts that in the actual field of existence, mere words are transient and inconsequential. While speaking is effortless, true spiritual attainment is reserved for those whose conduct and actions align with their speech. Verbal claims are like chaff blown by the wind; only the 'amal' or the actualized practice yields lasting spiritual fruit.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a person remains ignorant if they speak grandly of spiritual truths but fail to embody them through action. Such an individual merely parrots heard knowledge without personal realization, resembling a barking dog that creates noise without purpose or substance.

Meaning: This couplet emphasizes the immutable law of karma and the necessity of spiritual guidance. Kabir asserts that every individual must experience the consequences of their own actions. Without the devotion and guidance of a True Guru (Satguru), a soul remains trapped in the cycle of ignorance, enduring suffering across countless lifetimes.

Meaning: Kabir observes a profound disparity between action and utterance: a person's actual deeds are as minuscule as a tiny grain, while their claims and boasts are as vast as Mount Meru. Such an individual spends their entire existence in the vanity of speech, eventually meeting death in a state of profound ignorance, having achieved nothing of spiritual substance.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that individual efforts and actions are futile without the guidance and grace of a true Guru. Without a spiritual mentor to illuminate the path, every step a person takes leads only toward confusion and downfall, causing them to sink deeper into the abyss of ignorance rather than ascending toward spiritual awakening.

Meaning: Kabir observes that just as a thief attempts to hide his stolen loot inside a bamboo tube (tunbari) submerged in water, the act of retrieving it causes the water to splash and reveal the secret. Similarly, a human may try to conceal their sins and ego through outward piety, but the residue of their actions inevitably surfaces, exposing the truth of their inner state.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that one who speaks eloquently but fails to act upon those words can never attain the true state of enlightenment or the grace of a Guru. Mere verbal delicacies and intellectual gymnastics do not cultivate true patience or spiritual maturity.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that one who ventures upon the spiritual path and falls is not to be blamed. The true shame and failure belong to the one who remains stationary, paralyzed by fear, and spends their life criticizing those who dared to attempt the journey toward truth.
