Meaning: Kabir asserts that Maya does not emerge from a separate external source; rather, it is the manifestation of the three Gunas (Sattva, Rajas, Tamas). When the five primordial elements—earth, water, fire, air, and ether—intertwine, they create the physical form and the illusion of the material world, effectively binding the consciousness in a cycle of limitation.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the eight supernatural powers (Siddhis) and nine treasures (Nidhis), often viewed as the pinnacle of spiritual or material achievement, are merely extensions of worldly attachment. True liberation and wisdom are attained only by renouncing the craving and desire for such illusory gains.

Meaning: In this world, ordinary men and even the learned sages are trapped in the web of attachment. Worldly attraction is akin to a mirage (mrig-trisna), where water appears from a distance but vanishes upon arrival. This entire existence is a manifestation of delusion; those who attempt to fathom the depths of this ocean of attachment or seek fulfillment within it inevitably fall and perish in its depths.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that in ultimate reality, there is no such thing as 'ownership'. Humans, clouded by attachment and illusion, desperately claim things and people as their own, failing to realize that everything belongs to the Formless Divine and will eventually dissolve into nothingness.

Meaning: The entire world is a complex web of traps and attachments from which escape seems impossible. Only a rare few, the truly awakened seekers, possess the discernment to recognize these illusions and contemplate the actual essence of Truth.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that in the state of ultimate truth, no worldly relationship or identity remains. When the soul, aboard the boat of spiritual knowledge, crosses the ocean of existence, it merges into that infinite void where all who were once separated finally reunite in the one primordial source.

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the entire universe is an illusory trap. Whether they be the celestial deities of heaven, the humans of earth, the serpents of the underworld, or the most ascetic sages and seers, all are captivated by the delusion of this world, chasing a mirage. Everyone seeks the truth, yet remains bound by the chains of attachment.

Meaning: As long as attachment and delusion reside within the heart, the entirety of one's existence remains shrouded in the darkness of ignorance. Only the seeker who transcends this clinging attachment through the application of discerning wisdom is able to cross the turbulent ocean of worldly existence.

Meaning: Kabir laments his spiritual ignorance, stating that he has not discovered the secret method or 'jugti' to attain lasting liberation and peace. He observes a void in his practice: he lacks the discipline of formal worship, the profound humility of a true seeker, and the guidance of a realized master to navigate the complexities of the soul.

Meaning: This worldly existence is like a formidable and turbulent river that no ordinary person can cross alone. Only a true spiritual master, acting as a skilled boatman (Kevat), can guide the seeker across this ocean of existence, transforming them into a liberated soul (Hans) and liberating them from the terror of death and rebirth.
