कबीर के दोहे (Kabir's Couplets)

अर्थ: यह मानव शरीर दस द्वारों वाला एक पिंजरा है, जिसके भीतर आत्मा रूपी पंछी मौन बैठा है। आश्चर्य इस बात का है कि यह पंछी इस बंधन में कैसे टिका रहा, और उससे भी बड़ा विस्मय इस बात का है कि अंततः वह इसे छोड़कर कहाँ चला गया।

Meaning: The human body is a cage with ten gates, within which the soul, like a silent bird, resides. It is a wonder how the bird remained confined in this cage for so long, and an even greater mystery is where it vanishes once it finally departs.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि व्यक्ति की वाणी से उसके स्वभाव और इरादों की पहचान होती है, ठीक वैसे ही जैसे चोर की आहट से उसकी चोरी का पता चलता है। मनुष्य के भीतर जो कर्म और विचार होते हैं, वही अंततः उसकी भाषा और शब्दों के माध्यम से बाहर प्रकट होते हैं।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a person's true nature and intentions are revealed through their speech, much like a thief's presence is betrayed by their stealthy movements. Whatever resides within a person's heart and actions eventually manifests as the words they speak.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि जब मनुष्य सुख और समृद्धि में होता है, तब वह ईश्वर को भूल जाता है और केवल संकट आने पर उसे याद करता है। ऐसे स्वार्थी और अवसरवादी भक्त की पुकार ईश्वर नहीं सुनते क्योंकि उसमें सच्ची भक्ति का अभाव है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that humans tend to ignore the Divine during times of prosperity and comfort, only turning toward spirituality when gripped by suffering. He asserts that such opportunistic prayers, born of desperation rather than devotion, remain unanswered by the Eternal.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि ईश्वर (राम) हमारे भीतर के अंतर्मन के वन में निवास करते हैं। जो लोग केवल बाहरी कर्मकांडों, दिखावे की पूजा या गुरुओं के प्रति अंधभक्ति में लीन रहते हैं, वे वास्तव में सत्य से दूर हैं। पाखंड और आडंबर केवल भ्रम पैदा करते हैं, जिससे मनुष्य अंततः निराश और रिक्त रह जाता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the Divine (Ram) resides within the inner forest of one's own soul. Those who seek God through external rituals, superficial worship, or blind adherence to gurus without internal realization are chasing shadows. Hypocrisy and ritualistic pretension only lead to spiritual exhaustion and ultimate disappointment.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि ईश्वर के स्मरण में अपने मन को उसी एकाग्रता और तीव्रता के साथ लगाना चाहिए जैसे एक जंगली हिरण संगीत की मधुर ध्वनि (नाद) की ओर आकर्षित होकर उसमें पूरी तरह खो जाता है। जब साधक की भक्ति इस स्तर की गहनता प्राप्त कर लेती है, तो वह परमात्मा को कभी नहीं भूलता और अंत समय में भी उसी परमात्मा के साथ विलीन हो जाता है।

Meaning: Kabir urges the seeker to immerse the mind in the remembrance of the Divine with the same absolute intensity and singular focus as a wild deer is captivated by a haunting musical sound. Once this level of profound absorption is achieved, the soul never forgets the Divine, remaining eternally entwined with the Truth even at the moment of physical death.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि संत पुरुष एक दर्पण के समान होते हैं और उनका शरीर ही वह माध्यम है जिसमें सत्य का प्रतिबिंब दिखता है। यदि कोई उस अदृश्य, निराकार परमात्मा (अलख) को देखना चाहता है, तो वह केवल संतों के आचरण और उनके अस्तित्व में ही उस ईश्वर की झलक पा सकता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that a realized soul acts as a mirror, and their physical presence is the vessel through which the Divine is reflected. If one seeks to perceive the 'Alakh'—the Invisible or Unknowable Formless Absolute—they must look within the living embodiment and conduct of the saints, for the Divine is mirrored in them.

अर्थ: इस दोहे में कबीर कहते हैं कि ईश्वर या आत्म-ज्ञान वह अनमोल रत्न है जो सबके पास उपलब्ध है, लेकिन उसे पहचानने वाला कोई खरीदार (साधक) नहीं है। जो मनुष्य कर्म और साधना के बिना केवल इच्छाएं पालता है, वह जीवन भर दिशाहीन और अस्थिर भटकता रहता है।

Meaning: Kabir asserts that the Divine or Self-realization is a priceless treasure available to all, yet there is a lack of 'buyers'—those with the discernment to seek it. A human being who lacks purposeful spiritual action and discipline remains adrift, wandering aimlessly through the illusions of existence.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी कहते हैं कि मनुष्य अपने जीवन का अधिकांश समय सांसारिक कार्यों और नींद में व्यतीत कर देता है। यदि दिन के आठ पहरों में से पांच पहर काम में और तीन पहर सोने में बीत जाएं, तो ईश्वर के स्मरण के लिए समय ही नहीं बचता, और बिना उस आध्यात्मिक जुड़ाव के मोक्ष संभव नहीं है।

Meaning: Kabir observes that a human spends the vast majority of their existence immersed in worldly chores and deep slumber. If five parts of the day are consumed by labor and three by sleep, no time remains for the remembrance of the Divine, and without that spiritual awakening, liberation remains an impossible dream.

अर्थ: कबीर दास जी चेतावनी देते हैं कि जो व्यक्ति आध्यात्मिक अज्ञानता की नींद में सोया हुआ है और ईश्वर के स्मरण से विमुख है, वह व्यर्थ में समय गँवा रहा है। जब मृत्यु का समय आएगा और यमराज उसे ले जाएंगे, तो उसकी सारी बाहरी तैयारी, अहंकार और सांसारिक साधन वैसे ही बेकार रह जाएंगे जैसे बिना तलवार की खाली म्यान।

Meaning: Kabir warns that the person slumbering in the sleep of spiritual ignorance, neglecting the remembrance of the Divine, is wasting precious time. When the moment of death arrives and the Lord of Death claims the soul, all outward preparations, ego-driven achievements, and worldly possessions will remain useless, much like a scabbard left behind without its sword.

अर्थ: कबीर कहते हैं कि लकड़ी के मोतियों की माला फेरने या बाहरी दिखावे के जप से मुझे क्या लाभ? यदि हृदय के भीतर ईश्वर के नाम का वास्तविक स्मरण नहीं है, तो इस बाहरी कर्मकांड और माला जपने का कोई आध्यात्मिक मूल्य नहीं है।

Meaning: Kabir questions the utility of chanting with wooden beads or performing outward displays of piety. He asserts that if the divine name is not vibrated within the depths of the heart, such ritualistic chanting remains a hollow exercise devoid of spiritual merit.
